Chereads / She Is His Best Friend / Chapter 19 - Scale of preference.

Chapter 19 - Scale of preference.

I got down from the car after parking in the school parking lot. I walked to my locker and got my stuff and went to class. I felt happy, excited and bubbly. Maybe because I will be able to prove to Kyle that I'm not just an handsome and hot face but I also got brains.

Wait.. handsome and hot? What? she thinks I'm handsome and hot? I smiled to myself. I bet she is crushing on me just like the other girls. I couldn't wait for lunch break.

As soon as it was time, I hurried to the balcony. She wasn't there yet. Maybe I'm being too excited about this...but why won't I be? This is the first time I've read something since like, forever. She's taking too long. It's ten minutes already. Has she forgotten about it?

After sometime, I heard someone coming up and panting, obviously Kyle. So lazy. She finally came out.

"Oh my goodness, those were a lot of stairs." she said and I laughed.

"Lazy bones. Don't worry, I'll carry you down." I said and she scoffed and walked to me. "what took you so Long?" I asked.

"I had to get Daisy something to eat, by the way she wants more of your snacks." she said and I smiled.

" I know she does." I said.

"Hmm.. you seem to be in a good mood."she said.

"Of course, I'm going to prove to you that this guy ain't no dummy." I said and she laughed.

"Alright, prove me wrong, dummy."she said but I ignored her and stood up.

"You have to sit down for this." I said.

"Yeah, sure." she said and sat down.

"Separation techniques, right?"I asked.

"Yeah." she nodded.

"Separation techniques are the methods used to separate a mixture, involving only physical means, and this depends on the physical properties of the components of that mixture. Some mixture consists of a soluble solid, known as solute, dissolving in a liquid called solvent to form a solution. It can be recovered later and called evaporation. Some mixture involve the use of funnel when we have two immiscible liquids like petrol and water...." I continued explaining it to her and she listened with keen interest. I finally ended and she clapped her hands, smiling at me. "So am I still a dummy?" I asked and she stood up staring at me.

"Well, it wasn't my intention to call you a dummy. No one is a dummy, everyone is intelligent in their own way." she said.

"Wait a minute.." I looked at her in the eyes and she smiled. "Did you..."she nodded continuously. "You called me a dummy so I would prove you wrong. You knew all along that I wasn't a dummy. You just wanted me to study because you knew I could." I said, surprising myself. She laughed.

" Yes, you got that right." she said.

"Oh my god, I actually studied, I fucking studied."I said excitedly and I didn't know when I raise her up and twirled around with her.

"Will you put me down?" she asked, laughing. I dropped her and embraced her.

"Thank you very much."I said.

"You are welcome." she said and we refrained and sat down. "So, tell me, how does it feel to study?"she asked.

"Honestly, boring."I said and she laughed.

"What?" she asked.

" Yeah, it's boring but kinda interesting.. you know, learning new things and stuff." I said.

"Well, I wouldn't actually say new, because we've been taught in class."she said, but I doubt that.

"Have we really been taught?"I asked.

" Yeah, do you even pay attention in class?"she asked.

"Now that I think about it, no. I've not really listened to the teachers at all." I said.

" Well, I think you need to pay more attention in class."she said.

"Can I really do that? My friends would distract me." I said.

"If you can study, then you can pay attention in class." she said and I sighed. "Now that you know you can study, you have to do it every day." she said and I was literally shocked. I looked at her.

"What? Everyday? That's impossible." I said.

"It's not." she said.

"Yes it is. I've got friends to hang out with, parties to attend. I don't think I'll have time for that."I said.

"Why won't you? In economics, there is what we call scale of preference." she said.

"What does that mean?"I asked.

"Putting important and necessary stuff at the top of your list of wants."she said.

"I don't get it."I said and she sighed.

"Ok, for instance, you want to buy a shirt, a wristwatch, a school bag and some books but you only have money to cover up for just two items. Which two will you buy first?" she asked.

" The shirt and the wristwatch."I said and she rolled her eyes.

"The reason why you chose those two is because, you feel they are important." she said.

"Yeah, duh." I said.

"Ok, friends, party and school work are all important, but if you have to choose just one of them as the most important which will it be?" she asked and I thought about it.

"On a normal note, I'll choose my friends but society demands I choose school work."I said and she laughed.

" School work is more important, there you have it."she said and it struck me.

"Oh, I understand now. You mean I have to put my schoolwork before friends and party?"I asked.

"Yes, that is if you don't want to be just an handsome face." she said and I smiled.

"So you think I'm handsome?" I asked.

" Well everyone thinks so." she said.

"What do you think?"I asked.

" I think so too."she said.

"So you have a crush on me like other girls?" I asked.

"No, I don't have a crush on you. I just think you are handsome and that is it." She said honestly. It made me kind of sad. So she doesn't have a crush on me?

KYLA'S P.O.V

How can I have a crush on every girls dream guy? Well maybe I do but I'm afraid to admit it.

"So, as I was saying, you have to continue reading so as not to forget."I said.

" I really don't know why I do what you say, but whatever." He said and I laughed.

"I'm going to give you something else to read today. Study the elements, their symbols, their atomic numbers and mass." I said and he smiled.

"Why don't we make a deal?"he asked.

"What deal?" I asked.
