Chapter 16 - Perplexing

"Aera, let go of my hands. I am sick, we will do this another day." While Aera dragged him towards her university, Han-na implored her.

"Later...! It is already beyond late. We don't have enough time. Stay quiet, I'll take care everything," assured Aera.

Han-na came to a complete stop, as did Aera. "I've already attempted to communicate with Shin. He, on the other contrary, does not regard me as a human being. He despises me."

"So you are going to abandon him like this? Shin's rage will not last long, I know him very well. He will speak to you if we try again. Believe me."

Han-na was startled to hear a voice addressing him as "Han-na...!" when they were interacting.

"Shin…!" she exclaims as she abruptly turns around. "I'm looking for you," she says awkwardly, "but you came here."

"Aera, what are you doing with Han-na?" Shin inquires. Han-na gently pulls Aera's hands away from his own.

Shin adds, "How did you know Han-na?"

"I will explain things to you; don't get mad with Aera…" Han-na said forward, but Shin cut him off.

"I don't want to hear anything from you. Don't even bother to communicate with me. I disgust you," Shin declared, aggressively.

"Shin, watch your mouth. Don't overlook the fact that he is your brother."

"Aera, what are you speaking? When did you begin to sympathize with him? He is not... forget about it." As Shin said, he walked away.

"Shin, Shin... What's wrong with this kid? He never acted this way before!" as Aera said, turns around and looks at Han-na.

"Don't feel bad. He is still a child; and it will take some time for him to grasp what you're saying. It's okay, it is our first time. We should make every effort to pursue him."

"Thank you for helping me, Aera."

"Ahh… Keep your thankfulness for a rainy day."

Han-na grabbed Aera's palm and said, "Don't worry Aera, I will find Anderson's whereabouts."

"Huh?"

"I owe you a lot. I'd like to pay you back. As a result, I'm going to find Anderson's whereabouts. First, I need to figure out who is chasing you… Do you have any memories regarding them, such as how they looked?"

After a moment of consideration Aera says, "I was frantic when running. I have no memory of them... Their look were so terrible and... One of the thugs had a tattoo on his neck, which is a snake tattoo."

Aera concerns, "This won't help find those thugs, right?"

"Although, I'm going to give it a shot. Then I'll be off now. Take care, bye." He walked away, just as Han-na had said.

Han-na enters the lift first, followed by Bo-ra. Han-na asked uncomfortably, "Which floor?"

She replies, "1st floor."

Until the lift reaches the 1st floor, both remain silent. They both got out of the lift. Han-na sighed with relief as Bo-ra walked away. She spun around and approached him, "I am sorry."

Han-na exclaims, "What?"

"For disclosing your private life in front of my friends."

Han-na says with a smile, "It's okay. I had already forgotten about it... Honestly speaking, I'd like to express my gratitude. Because now only I feel lighter." Bo-ra smiled.

"Then, I'll be off," says Bo-ra.

"Why brings you here? You're collaborating with Mr. Lee…"

"I came here to deliver a report to Head Chung. Then, why are you leaving so early?"

"I'm going to track down the hoodlums that chased Aera..."

Bo-ra says, "Oh, thugs. I heard about them from Jenny. Then I 'd want to accompany you."

"I had no idea who they were. I'm going to start with Aera's parents."

"I'm aware of her parent's location."

Anderson was frantically searching his room for something. He searched his bed, closets, and dressing table. But he couldn't locate it.

"Are you looking for this?" Rang asks as he walks in.

When Anderson saw Rang's flip phone in his hand, he was taken aback. He shouts, "Give me the phone to me. It is precious to me."

"How precious? This sort of phone is no longer in use. Why are you keeping this? Is this a gift from your girlfriend? However, your girlfriend's taste was so old-fashioned."

Anderson chasing down Rang, they both came out of the room. "If you didn't hand it over the phone. I will kill you."

Then there was a struggle at the top of the stairs between the two of them. Anderson reaches for his hand, while Rang raises his hand to the ceiling. They were standing in close proximity to one another.

Oddly, the black-coated man is staring at them. Rang said, "Everyone is watching us, sir."

Then they both lower their hands. And they're both looking embarrassingly at the black-coated man. Anderson suddenly clutches his hand, while Rang pulls his hands away from him. The phone dropped from the top of the staircase. The phone shatters on the floor.

Bo-ra and Han-na are waiting in the lobby of the Hotel. "Are you positive, this is the Hotel, where Aera's father is staying?"

"Yes. I looked into Mr. Lee's file. I believe they are their parents."

The father and mother of Aera entered the lobby. Han-na wonders, "They look so normal. They don't even give the vibe of Mafia."

"Mr. Lee explained about how they never exhibit their actual selves in front of others." Bo-ra says as he hides his face behind a magazine.

Both were still on the lookout for Aera's parents. They did, however, return to their rooms. Bo-ra says, "I told you we weren't going to find out about them. Even after all these years, cops are still looking for them. However, they were never readily caught."

Han-na asks, "Then how are we going to find out about them...? Wait, Aera has a brother…"

"Do you have any info on him?"

"All I have of him is a picture. Wait, I'll send you a photo of him."

Anderson sat glumly on his bedroom floor, staring at his broken phone. He screams, "I told you that this phone is precious to me. Why did you break this phone?"

Rang replies, "I didn't damage the phone. It simply slipped from my grasp."

"Don't give me any justifications. Go to the phone store and get the phone fixed."

"Are you kidding me? These days, hardly one uses this style of phone. And there isn't going to be a store that can fix this phone."

Anderson grabs Rang's collar and pushes him to the ground. He tries to hit Rang by sitting on his stomach. Rang cries, "It's my fault. Sorry, sorry... Please don't beat me."

"I have no idea what you're going to do. Just get this phone fixed." Said vehemently

"Is it because of the girl's phone number?"

"I haven't even called her since I came here," Anderson says, stepping away from Rang's stomach. "I attempted to call, but was unsuccessful. However, when the phone breaks, something isn't quite right. I'd want to give her a call."

"Then call her; you have a smartphone and know her phone number? Rang urged, "Call her, why are you waiting?"

"No. She has been anticipating my call. She'd be ecstatic if I called this phone. What if I call her from a different phone number and she doesn't answer?"

Rang says, "If she's truly waiting for your call. She won't care about any numbers; she may even answer all the scam numbers too. So don't waste your time. Just give her a call."

"Lucas, I've arrived." Aera speaks on the phone to Lucas, who is waiting at the cafe, and waves her hand in his direction.

"Why have you urged me to meet you? I also have an important lecture class. What's the matter?"

"Aera…"

"Tell me…"

Lucas said, "Come with us."

"What?"

"You've been spending all those years without us. After that too, I am not going to leave you like this. When I spoke with our father, he asserted that he would gradually exit the Mafia business. Then he also said that he is ready to let you stay at our place."

Aera exclaims, "Is it real? Are you sure I am not dreaming?"

Lucas answered with a smile, "No, you are not dreaming."

Aera was immersed in excitement. He adds, "We are leaving tomorrow."

"What? Tomorrow! I have a job, and my pals are here. How could I possibly leave something like this tomorrow? It doesn't make sense."

Lucas holds Aera's hands, "Aera, you've been waiting for this your whole life. Why are you taking a step back? There are numerous colleges in our hometown as well, so come and work there..."

"No, Lucas. This is where I grew up. Suddenly, how I left it like this."

"I feel you. Then how about we do something like this?"

Aera inquires as she takes a step forward, "What is that?"

"All you have to do is remain with us for a month. Just one month, after that you may decide whether or not you wish to continue with us. You can return here if you don't wish to stay with us. Nobody can stop you."

Aera thinks for a while, "I will tell you my answer night."

Aera is wandering through the streets when she comes to a halt in front of the Café where Jimin worked part-time. And she remembers the time she spent with Jimin. She lets out a melancholy sigh.

"Aera..." Aera turns around when she hears a voice. Bo-ra and Han-na were a bit far away from her.

"This is the first time in a long time that we've all had a drink like this." Jenny expresses herself.

"Are you stupid? We three were drinking here the day before yesterday. How quickly forgot about it." Bo-ra says.

"Yesterday…" Jenny rubs his head confusingly.

Aera says, "Jenny, just drink… Don't recall that embarrassing event. Han-na, why didn't you have a drink?"

Who would have dropped you all the way home if we were all drunk?"

"Yes, you are right."

Jenny enquired to Bo-ra, "Do you know anything intriguing about Lim?"

Bo-ra asked, "Who is Lim? I don't know anyone with this name."

Aera looks at Han-na, "Is Lim your friend, right? The chubby guy… How did Jenny know about him?"

Han-na smiles uncomfortably. Jenny says, "Yes, he is Han-na's friend. Han-na told me he set me up on a blind date with him... Did you happen to see him? Is he attractive as he appears? What about his personality?"

Bo-ra interjects, "Wait a second. Hey Han-na…, how dare you set a date for Jenny with Lim. Are you insane?"

Han-na said, "I just told that for fun."

Jenny asks, puzzled, "What's funny?"

"This is Lim," Bo-ra says, pointing to a photo of Lim on her phone. "Your blind date."

"Hey Han-na, is the person you mentioned being a little overweight still the case?" Jenny exclaims, "Ah... I'm gonna kill you."

Jenny pursued Han-na as he tried to run away. "Jenny, come and show your power to him," Bo-ra said, holding his hand backwards.

The room was full of smiles, Aera smiled as she looked at them. "How could I leave like this?" Aera pondered. "I'll miss them. Should I leave or stay...?"

She thinks as she recalls the thugs who had followed her. "What if they knew where I was stay and my friends? What if they harm my friends? Should I tell them about Lucas's proposal and that I'll be spending a month with my parents." She had doubts about herself.

With a big smile on his face, Han-na is preparing breakfast. "Now ready...," he says as he prepares a large amount of food. "This dish will appeal to Aera."

"Why did you call me so early?" Shin said in an irritating tone.

Shin adds, "If you are going to advise me regarding Han-na. Then, I am leaving."

Aera shouts, "Why do you despise him so much? He didn't do anything. Why are you upset because of what his father did? It doesn't make sense," says Aera, while she was packing his stuffs.

"You'll never comprehend how I've evolved throughout the years. Since his boyhood, he has remained on his father's side. But I was alone for all of those years. His father didn't even pay me a quick visit."

Aera responded, "I feel you, I was also in the same position as you. But how long could we hold our resentment towards them. There is no purpose in doing so. Allow yourself to forgive him and give it a shot. Just this once... I am too going to give it a try and see what happens."

"Don't try to persuade me, Aera."

"As a friend of yours, I expressed what I wanted to say. Then don't regret it later after things fall apart."

"Yes," Shin looks around. "Why are you packing things? Are you planning on taking a vacation? Do you mind if I join you?"

"No, I am going to my hometown for a month."

"Really?"

"Yes, keep Jenny and Bo-ra in the dark. I'll persuade them afterwards."

As Han-na approached Aera's apartment, he noticed Shin exiting Aera's apartment. "What is Shin doing at Aera's house so early?" he wonders as he ducks behind the wall.

Han-na keeps an eye on Shin as he walks away from the area. A car then came to a halt in front of Aera's apartment. A group of men emerged from the vehicle. "Who are all those people?" Han-na wonders. "They appear to be weird."

Han-na noticed each of the four men, and his gaze was drawn to a snake tattoo on the man's neck. "Isn't he the snake tattoo man Aera mentioned? Now they arrived at Aera's house right away."

As he stated, he attempted to take a stride forward, but he abruptly stopped when he saw a man. He muses as he quickly pulls his phone from his pocket, "He is Lucas, Aera's brother. What is he doing with those thugs?"

"Was it her brother who hired the guys to scare Aera?" Han-na enters Aera's apartment slowly while Lucas waits outside.

Aera pushes her trolley bag forward, puts on her shoe. Her gaze was drawn to a pair of sneakers presented by Anderson. She removes his shoes and replaces them with Anderson's. "Is it Lucas?" Aera wonders when the doorbells rings.

"Han-na…!" she exclaims as she opens the doors. Han-na walks into Aera's house and closes the door.

"What are you doing here, Han-na? And why are breathing heavily? Is it something bad that happened?"

Han-na observes the trolley bag and asks, "Where are you going?"

"Ahh... Sorry for not informing you sooner. My brother and I are planning a visit to our hometown. He pleaded with me repeatedly. And my father, too…"

"Shit..."

"What's the matter Han-na?"

"Don't go Aera. It is a trap."

"What are you speaking? Trap?"

Han-na takes Aera's arms and says, "Aera... Listen to me… The thugs who chased you were hired by your brother…"

Aera pulls Han-na's fingers away from her arm, "What are you talking about? Why would my brother enlist the help of thugs? You have misunderstood him…." Aera stated in a perplexing manner.

"I'm not sure either... However, you should try to figure it out on your own. Is it something that happened between you and Lucas recently? Or he said something strangely to you… give it some thought, Aera.
