Chapter 74 - Ausburn Tree Resort [6]

AN: Sorry for not uploading for a couple of days. I was either flying or at the airport waiting for my next flight home. Now that I'm back, I'll try to upload at least 2-3 chapters a week.

(James Schwarz POV)

*Bang Bang Bang*

I moved my head as I dodged the incoming bullets. Though the bullets were faster than movement speed, I was far enough away so that I could easily dodge the incoming bullets.

I rushed forward and kicked the guns out of the attackers' hands, before stomping on them, crushing them.

I did to same to ones trying to approach Amina, hoping to distract her in the battle with two C ranks. It would be quite amusing to outsiders to see a girl in a crop top and shorts fighting off two men armed to the teeth.

I saw they had no backup guns and naively thought disarming them would be enough to stop them. They pulled out a knife, but all I had to was kick the people away to stop them.

Suddenly I felt a presence trying to attack me from behind. By instinct, I jumped and kicked him with the back of my leg.

*SNAP*

I heard a sharp noise as my leg landed on his neck. He was knocked back a couple of metres and his body crumpled like a ragdoll.

I was holding back my strength in order to not kill the enemies but unintentionally used my maximum in that kick.

Ignoring all that was going on around me, I rushed to solider. I frantically checked his pulse, hoping for any signs of life. But I already knew he was dead. I could feel his mana dissipating in the atmosphere.

'No no no. Why did he die? I didn't want to kill him.'

As I was contemplating what I just did, a noise woke me out of my stupor.

"YOU IDIOT!!"

Amina came rushing toward me trying to block a flurry of bullets. However, she couldn't stop all of them and allowed three bullets to hit her body, one on her right thigh, stomach and left shoulder.

"You should've left him for dead."

The short man taunted her as he clawed at her neck. Amina tried to avoid the attack by jumping over it, but couldn't as the bullet in her leg weakened her leap.

The short man's claws chunked some flesh from her unprotected waist. He tried to finish her off with another attack on her back.

This time Amina managed to block it, though it did send her tumbling to the ground. The short man ignored me and focused on Amina on the concrete floor. The blond-haired man also appeared ready to stab her with his spear.

I thought back to what Amina said to me before. It's either your life or theirs.

Though I'd only known her for nearly two weeks, she left a deep impression on me and thought we were good friends.

Violet immediately clicked with her and they got along akin to fish to water. They acted as if they'd known each other for years.

I didn't want to imagine their faces if I brought her dead body to them. Especially Julius. Those two were extremely close as they'd known each other for nearly a decade.

I didn't want to see how he acted when that happened. He'd probably blame me. I couldn't let that happen.

The difference in guilt between killing an enemy and showing Amina's dead body to my closest friends was wider than a chasm.

I couldn't let her die. She was a precious friend and to protect her, I would do anything. It didn't matter if it was good or bad, or went against my values.

So I vowed to myself.

'I'll kill them so I can protect my friends.'

I got up and condensed mana in my fist, before punching in the direction of the blonde-hair person who was closer to Amina.

Since I sped up my fist with my gravity attribute, my punch compressed the air in front of my fist, launching a shockwave at my target.

The blonde-haired not expecting an attack from me was caught unaware and was sent flying into the resort crashing into the windows.

The short man turned around and saw me launch the technique. Now understanding I was a threat, went and attacked me instead.

But before he could, I suddenly turned the area around him into zero gravity. He start floating and rushed to undo my technique.

I rushed toward him and went I was in position, I underdid the zero gravity. Caught off guard by the sudden return of gravity, he was unable to defend against the roundhouse kick I dealt to him by exceeding my maximum.

As I came in contact with him, I felt his rib crack before kicking him in the direction of the mages who were firing at me before.

The D ranks were immediately knocked to the ground. Before they could get up I use {Earth Spikes} to bring the concrete up in the spikes, piercing right through their bodies.

I felt my heart tighten after I did that but I pushed it to the back of my mind. I had to kill them to protect Amina and the other students inside the classroom.

Amina shot me a thumbs-up before getting up slowly. I created 3 walls around her to protect her as she tried to pull the bullets out of her body.

The reinforcement of her skin meant that the bullets didn't go very deep into her body. I turned around so I didn't have to watch her complete the operation.

I heard muffled screams behind me as she pulled the bullets out. After doing so, she enhanced her cells at the point of the wound to allow her body to speed up the healing. She didn't completely heal it as it would cost too much mana but only stopped the bleeding.

I heard bullets being shot into the wall, but they couldn't penetrate it. I waited for the bullets to stop shooting before bringing the down the wall and going into the fight.

The two C ranks came back ready for round two. However, I noticed there were fewer D ranks than expected.

'We've been breached.'

I heard Jules' voice speaking into my mind.

'The soldiers blew up the walls and are pouring into the dining hall.'

'James go back, I'll deal with the rest here. Don't worry I won't lose.'

Amina replied to Jules. I nodded before following her instructions.

I turned and ran for the dining hall. I looked behind me and saw Amina dodging all the attacks being thrown at her.
