Chapter 75 - Ausburn Tree Resort [7]

(Violet Storm POV)

Chaos. That's all I could say to describe the scene in front of me— bullets flying everywhere with people screaming in terror.

It was deafening. All I could hear was ringing in my ears and my vision was covered by dust. Despite the lights lighting up the room so it was bright as day, this was infinitely scarier than the darkest horror movie I've watched.

I saw a soldier pass by me. Without thinking I cut him down, before moving on to the next. I don't know how many people I've killed this way. I didn't have time to think about the fact that I had just murdered someone.

My body moved on its own. I had only one goal now, to save as many people as I could. I was running on pure adrenaline as I unflinchingly took out any enemies in the way. The past me would be shocked to see the state I was in.

Back when the soldiers started pouring in, Jules immediately sought to take them out but was intercepted by a C rank. Then the soldiers started entering and firing at our position.

Then that's when I acted. Now the battle has devolved into every man for themselves. The students were desperately trying to protect their lives while the soldiers systematically eliminated as many as they could.

In the corner of my eye in the gaps in the dust, I saw a group of 5 soldiers attempting to ambush a group of 25 students.

I turned around and rushed toward them, with purple lightning surrounding me. I immediately slashed one of them before grabbing his gun and pulling the bullets out of the magazine.

I used the {Railgun} technique to finish off the other 4 mages, before moving on to the next target. As I was moving over, I sensed a bullet rapidly approaching.

At that distance, I wouldn't be able to dodge, so I enhanced my shoulder (which was the area the bullet was going to hit) beyond my maximum so it won't pierce my skin.

*Tink*

The bullet was deflected off my shoulder and I responded by throwing a knife at the attacker. Though I didn't care if it hit. I'd deal with him after this target I had in my sights.

However, the dust cleared from next to him just before I got to him, revealing another soldier staring right at me.

He fired right at me. With such a short distance, I was able to properly dodge and I jerked out of the way, barely avoiding the incoming attacks.

But the result left me unprepared to deal with his next attack. He hit me across the head with the butt of his gun.

I immediately put my hands in front of my head to protect myself from his next attack but it never came.

I looked up and saw he had a blank expression on his face with his gun on the ground. If I looked closely, I could see he was tied with thin strings.

As the dust cleared, I saw the same situation as the other soldiers. Just before it was chaotic and now it was silent. Almost eerily silent.

The ringing in my ears disappeared as could now hear my heart thumping at speeds not humanly possible.

I saw at the centre of the dining hall, a beautiful red-haired woman that didn't look to be a student. I didn't recognise her, but she seemed to be the cause of all this.

At the other end of the room, I saw James who was now sitting on the floor, with not many wounds.

'Thank god, he's ok.'

My mind finally caught up with my body as it stop injecting adrenaline into my bloodstream. I was tired.

All the stress from today hit me harder than a moving truck. My eyes started feeling heavy as I staggered forward before hitting the ground unconscious.

"Amina you shouldn't be moving. "

"Shut up, you aren't my parents or my grandparents."

"I'm your attendant so it's my duty to ensure you don't hurt yourself."

"Ohhhh... now you're my attendant. When I asked to you buy groceries for me you refused."

"Cough cough, you need to learn to do things by yourself. You won't always have people working for you."

"Oh really?"

"Umm... yeah. Also as your friend, I don't want to see you injured anymore. After all, it was me he told you to fight the two C ranks alone."

"Fine fine, I'll stay. No need to guilt-trip me."

My eyes fluttered open as I awoke to the sound of Jules and Amina arguing. I got up and saw Amina with bandages over her body with Jules sitting on the chair nearby.

"Violet! You're finally awake."

On the other side of the bed, James was waiting next to me.

"Umm... yeah."

I was still groggy as I had just woken up. I recognised this place but I couldn't put my finger on why.

"You've been asleep for over a week."

Amina notified me as she turned and sat on her bed.

"A WEEK?! What happened?! Is everyone ok?"

"It's fine, most of us made it back safely. We're back at Central High. The teachers decided to transport everybody back here whether they were injured or not since they didn't want to risk another attack."

'Oh, that's why I know this place. It's the Central High infirmary.'

"How many people died?"

"..."

Jules and Amina were silent.

"There were 38 deaths. In total combined with the hornet attack, that makes it 48 students dead. Nearly 20% of the students that came."

It was James who broke the bad news.

"Then what now?"

"The government is trying to suppress the news, but it probably will be leaked soon. Something like this hasn't happened since the creation of Central High. This is also the first incident after the end of the war so it will blow up to epic proportions."

Amina explained it to me solemnly. A gloomy atmosphere descended on us.

"Why? Who would do something like this?"

More than being anguished, I was perplexed. What reason did anyone have to target us? We were just students.

"I guess I'll explain it. From my connections, I have a basic idea of what's going on. This is classified information that I shouldn't even be telling you, but I don't want to keep you in the dark."

Julius finally spoke. He stopped talking as soon I woke up and seemed to be contemplating something.
