Sydney was killed last year, in the Second Fire Phase(the time when violence is high due to Nagamo's gift of fire).
Nass actually witnessed her death, shocked for the first time in her existence as a 'lesser superficial being' as she likes to call herself. As the gang that killed her started pouring kerosene on her to burn her up, Nass spread out her wings and flapped them as hard as she could, blowing the guys away. Sadly, she flew down to pick up the distorted body and sent her to her domain.
"Just let me die", Sydney howled in pain at every slight movement she makes. Nass just chuckled and said to her, "You should actually be glad that I've given you some of my blood, though it doesn't guarantee you won't die again".
So Sydney lived, but as she grew, she became more adamant about killing the murderers. So one day, when Nass was out, she sneaked out and mistakenly fell into Anak's domain. And at that moment, she knew she would be tortured to death.

Soul rushed to carry the body and placed her into a pond. "How long was she with him?", Soul asked. "Two phases, at most", Nass replied. Soul gently washed the body clean and helped Sydney to her feet. "Do me a favour and stop gauging me, please", Sydney retorted and skipped to Nass' side. "I'm sorry. I should have listened".
Nass signed and pushed her to Ceri. "She's all yours Ceri. Just let her be ready, please ok?", Nass begged. "How is Nass getting a soft side?", Mano smirked at her. "One wrong move Mano, and Nagamo's hearing this". "Sorry Nass".

Sydney hesitated before entering the building. This Amsterdam woman really knows her stuff, she thought as she walked towards the reception.
Receptionist: Name?
Sydney:(Clears throat) Sydney.
Receptionist: Madam Amsterdam would be waiting for you at the elevator.
Sydney: OK.
She struggled to strut with ease as Nass or the other goddesses do. "If you manage to die, you'll always come back to me. So do not fear", she remembered Nass' last words as she was brought back to the mortal world. "Hello Peachiness", Amsterdam giggled as she squeezed Sydney's hand, "how are you?"
It didn't take Sydney a second before reading Amsterdam, but she waited until they stood in the elevator before telling her.
"Do you always have to be nice so that you don't get scared of people?", she blurted out. "Huh? I don't get you", Amsterdam sheepishly replied. "Don't lie to me". Amsterdam looked at her carefully and took in a deep breath. After exhaling, she said, "Let anyone find out about this, and darling, you are going straight to hell".
The sudden change in the atmosphere made Sydney gulp. Nass had warned her after all, and she still didn't listen.
