Chapter 19 - Jaxon - The Conference

The Bryce and Cyson Business Conference was held the very next day, Jaxon was in a new room this time and he had a large king-size bed all to himself. He was up at 5am doing warm ups in his room with the little space he had available. Since breakfast would not be ready till 7am Jaxon decided to watch an episode of Immortals, the famous sci-fi fantasy drama that was popular on Snowflix Channel.

At 6am, he took a shower and chose to wear a long sleeved dark green shirt with a black blazer and black slacks. He put on his socks and shoes, looked in the mirror and combed his hair which was sticking out in every direction. He rubbed some gel onto his hands and ran it through his hair so it would stay in place. Yes, he looked smartly dressed, he glanced at his phone and saw a message from Olivia which had come in last night.

"Apparently, Olivia had a boyfriend her father did not approve of."

"Interesting." He texted back and left his room.

He arrived at the Banquet Hall and saw his employer was already seated at the same table. Jaxon piled his plate up with food, picked an avocado smoothie and joined his boss at the table.

"Jaxon, we need to talk. Before I begin, I just want to say thank you for your service and for caring for my protection. I regret to inform you that this conference will be the last time you work for me as, I would have settled some matters and proved my innocence, thus I would not require your services, but should I request help I will reach out in future.

Jaxon was silent for a moment not sure he had heard right. "So after this conference I will be discharged from my duties?"

"Yes", replied his employer.

"Alright, sir thank you for the opportunity to serve you."

"Great, now that that's out of the way, here you go," said Sir Raiden pulling out a black box and placing it in front of Jaxon. "Just something from me to you."

"Thank you Sir", replied Jaxon taking the box and opening it. A branded Dante watch, was in it. It had a sea blue face with silver hands that pointed the time which read 7:30am, the strap was black. He really liked the watch after inspecting it, he took it out of the box and slipped it on his left wrist.

"I see you like it, this one was sold out in 15 hours," remarked Sir Raiden.

"We best get a move on, shall we? The conference starts at 8 o'clock."

"Yes sir," replied Jaxon.

Both men left the Banquet Hall together and headed straight for the Winter Ballroom, where the conference was held. The ballroom was decorated in all hues and shades of blue with white and silver snow flakes placed strategically to be seen. Chairs were lined up from the front to the back in rows, and there were some tables located at the end of the ballroom filled with light refreshments.

Sir Raiden chose to sit in the fifth row at the left end of the row, and Jaxon sat next to him.

The speaker of the day was Dr. Lionel Heathrow, who would be presenting on the Economics of Modern Businesses and the Future. Jaxon knew he was going to have to be alert the whole day this conference would end at 5pm with a break in between at 12pm.

The conference started the hall was filled and everyone was seated. The speaker Dr.Lionel was a tall man in his fifties who had on spectacles and was beginning to bald in the centre. He was a Harvard alumni and had graduated top of his class. Jaxon thought with dread he was going to suffer for next couple hours but surprisingly found Dr.Lionel's presentation interesting.

Before he knew it the conference came to an end at 4:30pm finishing a half an hour early. To Jaxon's relief and to Sir Raiden's disdain. Both men left the Winter Ballroom together an went back to their separate rooms. In the lift, Sir Raiden asked Jaxon,

"do you want to go for swim?"

"Sure, let's go," replied Jaxon.

They changed into their swimwear and were at the pool as the Sun slowly made it's descent in the West. They swam laps together and after swimming, they showered and decided to relax and watch the World FIFA Cup that was currently shown on the large flat screen television in the drink bar. They ordered beers and fries and settled themselves on the sofa set that was placed facing the television.

"Sir. I'm just curious but would you happen to know anyone by the name of Bruce Visser, he is a business man."

At the mention of that name all colour seemed to drain from his employers face. He turned to look at Jaxon with fear in his eyes and said.

"Jaxon don't ever mention that name again, he is one of the most ruthless men that ever did business and the sort of business he does is very deadly, the kind that gets you killed." "So if you want to live long, I suggest you pretend you never heard of that name and cease asking questions about him altogether." "Am I clear?"

"Yes, sir," answered Jaxon.

They resumed watching the match till 9pm and then Sir Raiden excused himself saying he wanted to knock off early because of another conference held tomorrow.

"Good night Sir," before the door closed in his face as he had followed his boss all the way up to his room.

"Good night, and remember what I said," warned Sir Raiden.
