Chapter 109 - Realising the truth

Accidents in the middle of a match were common to happen, however it would not mean that they would be ignored.

Certainly not that they wouldn't be terrifying.

From the moment he stepped on the court, Nicolas had remained focused on his team's victory. Ending Santo Ângelo by proving to Maicon how inferior he was and would always be became his goal for the next few minutes of play. Whether he was captain or not, the fact was that Nicolas would always be the center of attention when he stepped on a court. For being an excellent player.

The adrenaline of a fierce game excited him. The stronger the opponent, the better. This is how a person could grow into something, facing difficult things and people. Nothing was better than celebrating a victory over a strong opponent.

With this blindfold in his eyes, Nicolas was one hundred percent focused on the game. They needed to win and secure the championship spot. And the rally was getting faster and faster according to the tension of the teams.

As soon as the reception was made by Bruno, he only followed the ball going off the court. While the ball was up high the thought that he was screwed had passed through the mind of the omega. In addition to opening the other team to turn the score, Nicolas knew very well that the whole team was too tired to continue.

For a moment he had given up on his goal.

Until he saw Milles chasing the ball.

At that moment, Nicolas felt their connection show the alpha's determination not to let defeat happen. His brown eyes shone brightly, and his mouth was wide as if growling at the ball. Milles ran insanely after her, as if relying on that single thread of hope.

How could he stand in front of a scene like that?

His body simply responded immediately, running and positioning itself where it thought the damn ball would arrive. He should be quick to put an end to that torment. And the instant he had cut, his attention had been completely stolen.

The dark eyes moved to the corners, where he saw the instant Milles fell on the jury table, knocking some of them over and turning the table.

His whole body hardened. His face turned pale from seeing the alpha lying on his back, stretched to the ground.

Why?

Why did he fall?

Why was he still on the floor?

Aren't him going to get up?

His ears were ringing. On his back the team still reacted to the referee's whistle giving the victory, while on his side saw Professor Marcos and Theodore run to the jury table. Everything happened in slow motion for that omega.

He was the first to leave the court to run to the crowd of people trying to help the jurors get up. He had pushed some curious ones to reach the front, having finally the sight of Milles still fallen to the ground with his back to him.

― Make room! Make room! ― The organizers shouted pushing the curious.

Nicolas barely blinked. He stared haunted the figure of fallen Milles without being able to see his face. He wanted to see his eyes, because only in that way would know that everything was fine. The bite did not pass any sensation, increasing the fear of omega.

Had he lost consciousness?

What if he hit his head hard?

What if something went through your eyes? No... There would be nothing that could turn into such a serious accident.

The heart was beating faster and faster. The hands were trembling and the legs were failing.

― Get out of the way. ― Nicolas murmured when someone tried to keep him away. ― Get out of my fucking way!

Grabbing the blouse of whoever it was, Nicolas pushed him managing to throw himself on the coach's side watching a rescuer examine the student. Finally able to look at him, Nicolas no longer knew what to feel when he saw the rescuer extend the hand of Milles with blood.

— We will take him to the infirmary, we already called the medical team. ― Said the rescuer to his team, who held a stretcher. ― Be careful, he hit his head. No sudden movement.

The team of rescuers worked together to lift that corpulent teenager and climb him on the stretcher. Milles had his eyes closed and blood was flowing from his forehead down his face.

When they took the alpha off the court, Nicolas took a step to accompany him, but his legs failed shaky almost falling to the ground. Lucky for him that Theodore and Gabriel showed up next holding him.

― Nico! Nico! Are you okay?

A knot had formed in Nicolas's throat making him unable to answer. He grabbed onto his best friend's blouse unable to see Milles.

What was that strange feeling?

Distressing... He didn't want to feel that way.

It was as if he were weak... desperate, falling into an infinite abyss with no chance of survival.

― Nicolas take a deep breath! No, calm... Shit! He's hyperventilating.

― Hold him, I'll get something.

The voices were mere humming to Nicolas. His vision was blurred as the abyss engulfed him more and more. What the fuck was that? All he had to do was run to the alpha and make sure he was okay.

Why was he feeling that horrible feeling?

Since when have become such a wimp that he feel panic taking over every part of his body?

— Nico, here, breathe here ― Heard Theodore's kind voice and something covered part of his mouth and nose. A strange noise had gained his attention and then realized that his breathing was too fast and short.

― What's going on with him, Moss?

― He must have been scared by what happened to Milles, I don't know.

― What the hell is going on here? ― The teacher mumbled messing up his hair without taking his worried eyes off the students.

— It would be better to take him close to the Milles ― Gabriel said holding firmly the soft body of Nicolas. ― It might even be good for Milles to get close to his omega.

― But if they're doing first aid on him, they won't let Nicolas near.

― What are you talking about? Quickly load him into the locker room.

Theodore growled looking at the teacher over his shoulder. With a simple nod he had signaled for the teacher to approach, and when he did so he said.

― Nico bit Milles, they now have a bond.

It was the turn of the teacher's face to turn pale. Scratching his head, he sighed heavy and then pointed to the two young men. Poor old coach, who barely knew who to help first. He could not leave the team alone, just as he should be near the infirmary or help Nicolas. Finally, he had squeezed the shoulder of Gabriel and Theodore making a simple request.

— As soon as he gets better, take him to the infirmary. I need to get down there and find out what's going on with Mckenzie. I'll let the nurses know, then they'll let you in.

It had taken a while for Nicolas's breathing to return to normal. Theodore had begun to massage the legs of the omega aiding in circulation, attentive to the measly movement of the lowest. Meanwhile, Gabriel went to talk to the team to warm up and gather in the locker room where they would wait for news from Milles.

Slowly Nicolas was able to reason again. He had calmed down, though his body still acted strangely. He had remained sitting on the floor having his best friend in front of him massaging his calves while staring at him.

— He is well. ― Heard him say, having Nicolas raising his dark eyes to Theodore. ― No one called an ambulance, so it must be something the team here can handle. No need to worry.

Nicolas wanted to say he wasn't worried. He would never worry about Milles. However, his heart was still beating fast and now it was difficult to breathe. The dread was still treading its veins turning its muscles into lead trapping it against the ground.

What the fuck.

He was not worried.

He wasn't worried Milles was in trouble.

He was terrified Milles was in trouble.

Little did he know that in his eyes were reflected his anguish so unknown.

― Come on, I'll drop you off at the infirmary.

Theodore had held Nicolas's arms and pulled to help him get up. Supporting him completely, the omega soon received the help of Gabriel who carried some bag. Nicolas couldn't even keep up with those two, his head was so heavy.

All he knew was that a bottle of water had been stretched out along with a cereal bar, the latter being swallowed by force. He had even tried to refuse to eat something, but Theodore seemed to fight with him and broken into pieces giving him in the mouth. While he was chewing he could feel minimally well, since he realized he was hungry.

Still it would not be enough to heal that anguish completely.

Dragging himself around the gym, Nicolas bad believed what he felt. It was because of the bite, right? This was all caused by the damn bond your instincts insisted on having with Milles. It didn't come from him, right?

What a load of crap.

Flashing slowly when a door was open, the omega felt the hot air hit its face. He had completely ignored the side conversations and the looks that were directed at him. What interested him was lying unconscious receiving treatment from some beta doctor.

Freeing himself from Theodore, the omega had gone to the alpha. Occasionally someone tried to approach, but Nicolas cast a fierce look in response.

― Get out of my way.

Anyone who dared to stop him from approaching his alpha was worthy of his anger. All he had to do was stay close, touch him somehow. It wouldn't hinder their work, of course, because it's not like he knows what to do himself.

He just knew he needed to be with Milles.

Pulling a chair and leaving it next to the bed Milles was in, Nicolas sat down and held the hand of the alpha.

The teacher was standing next to Gabriel and Theodore, looking at that scene with wide eyes without being able to get used to the newly received information. Those two had been fighting since the moment they met. He had already had to break up several heated discussions and go to the board to hear complaints about them. He had covered for them several times, as they were necessary for the team.

They would always be seen as opposites.

Opposites these who now shared a bond worthy of novel of the six.

― Howard you are...

― Shut up! ― The omega with his head down growled. ― I'm only doing this because I need to, not because I want to.

Tapping his head, the teacher growled afterwards.

— Who do you think you are to tell your teacher to shut up? You can examine him, he was hyperventilating just now. And if he bothers you, just put him to sleep. ― Going to the exit of the infirmary, the teacher turned to the other two young people who were standing ― You two stay here, I'll see the team and I'll be right back. Anything you can tell me.

They didn't have much to do there but watch Nicolas hold Milles' hand and keep his head down preventing them from seeing his face. The medical team had continued their work by now examining the omega as well, and soon one of them approached the blonde omega.

— It's okay with them, your friend is probably unconscious due to fatigue and impact. We've stitched up the cut on his forehead, but we'll leave a bag of saline for him while we wait to wake up. Still, I recommend that when you go back to the city, you take the exams to check it out.

― Oh what a relief! ― Theodore sighed ― Thank you very much, and sorry for the work!

— Don't worry, this kind of thing always happens. ― The doctor had looked over his shoulder at those two holding hands and smiled ― If that alpha has your omega, recovery will be faster. You can probably go home early.

As the room grew quieter, Theodore only crossed his arms as he looked toward his friend.

― You heard, didn't you?

Nicolas relaxed his shoulders, resting his head on his palm. It seemed that his emotions were transparent to others, and that was just horrible. He just wanted to hide, pretend like that situation wasn't happening to him.

But what could he do?

Now that he was holding Milles' hand could feel comfortable and calm. To his horror, he wanted to lie on top of him and leave his ear on the alpha's chest just to hear his heart beat. He felt like just touching your skin just to calm down.

But he have to settle for holding your hands.

Like he loved him.
