Chapter 1 - Where Is Caramel?

Life was not easy for the five boys living in the orphanage…. They had no family to call theirs, no place to call home, and no freedom that could be owned…

Miles, one of the youngest, always tried to cheer the others, he was kind of a happy pill and a younger brother for the four boys… curiosity was in his blood and that made him more charming. His best friend Elliot was a bit of a shy lad, but does everything for miles and join him in any crazy adventure, his freckles look like the stars of the galaxy, and his words were sweet as honey. The oldest was Aiden, he was so handsome that people mistook him for a beautiful girl… well the long hair also added to the suspicion, although he doesn't like to admit it, he likes the attention he receives from the girls. Nobody knows what's up with Zane, he had a younger sister who was at the orphanage but got adopted, everyone thinks that's the reason why he looks emotionless, but he was not like that to the boys, especially Isaac. Isaac was the son of the headmistress, he is strict with himself and does everything his mother says, he is… kind of the quiet one in the group.

One night, the five boys stayed up late spooking themselves.

"The mother drowned her children as she was blinded by anger towards her husband, when she came back to consciousness, she realized that her children were murdered by her. Maddened by the sight, the mother committed suicide and her spirit will forever wander around rivers looking for her lost children. They say that if u ever encounter her, run, otherwise, she will think of you as her child and drown you too…." Zane was telling a scary story to his friends past their bedtime.

"Why was she so angry that she drowned her children?" Elliot asked as he moved closer to Aiden.

"Can't you listen to the story carefully?" Zane sighed "It's because…"

"Miles, Elliot, Zane, Aiden, and Isaac…." Zane was interrupted by headmistress Helga, her eyebrows stuck together and her mouth frowning with her hands at the hips. Headmistress Helga was a kind person but strict at the same time, she does not like when rules are not being followed. "What are you boys doing past your bedtime?!, Isaac, I never thought you would disobey the rules…. Hurry up and go to bed"

The room was filled with silence.

"All of you!" headmistress Helga shouted.

"Yes mother," Isaac said as he went back to his bed. The rest of them followed.

"I should not see any one of you awake," the headmistress said as she turned off the light and went to check on the other kids.

Even though headmistress Helga told them to sleep, one little boy kept turning around, unable to sleep.

"pssst" Miles whispered to Isaac, he was now hanging upside down staring at Isaac since they were sharing a bunk bed, "do you know any scary stories about the orphanage?"

"There is nothing, now go back to sleep" Isaac replied.

"Like there is going to be anything interesting about this place," Aiden said sarcastically.

"All of you go back to sleep!!" Zane said angrily.

"you were the one with the idea of staying up late telling horror stories!!!!" Aiden said angrily.

A quarrel between Zane and Aiden started.

"I just wanted to have fun"

"well, your fun led to us having to hear the headmistress shout"

"you all joined me, you could've refused the idea of staying up late"

Out of nowhere, Elliot shouted, "Where is caramel?"

"What now?" Isaac sighed.

"Caramel is missing!! We have to find him before he runs into the headmistress" Elliot said worriedly. Caramel was Elliot's cat, she was there in Elliot's life from the beginning, he doesn't know when he got the cat, but he does know that caramel was a present from his parents before they disappeared, and he cherished every moment with her.

"let's look for him in the morning, it's just a cat, it will be fine," Aiden said as he slowly turned his head to the other side.

"But.." Elliot was interrupted by Zane telling everyone to go back to sleep.

Although Elliot stopped a fight unintentionally, he couldn't go back to sleep so easily.

It was two o'clock in the night, everyone was asleep except for Miles, he needed an excuse to go out and have some fun, so he tiptoed to Elliot and asked him to join his search for Caramel.

"we've searched the whole orphanage and there is no sign of Caramel," Elliot said dispiritedly.

"let's check one more time, who knows maybe we will find him licking his paws in the corner," Miles said to comfort Elliot. Miles wanted to find Caramel but he got out of bed using that as an excuse. He didn't want to sleep, whenever he sleeps, it feels like he is wasting time as there is not much time left to live"

"Caramel!!" Elliot screamed excitedly as he saw his cat walking toward an unfamiliar hallway.

Was this hallway always here? Miles knew the orphanage upside down but was the first time he stepped into this place.

"Caramel!!" Elliot screamed with joy, the cat came to a halt when he saw a door.

"Oh, there you are! We've been looking for you"

"Meow …..meow….meow" Caramel kept meowing at the door, it was like caramel was having a conversation with the door so deep that she did not notice Elliot's voice. "what's wrong Caramel?" Elliot didn't understand why his cat was meowing at the door.

"Boys!!"
