Chapter 15 - I Don't Need Any Items to Cast Spells

Vanessa's confident tone put Lind at ease.

It seemed that his companion was quite powerful. She dared to fight the Goblin King alone.

This mission was not difficult for Lind at all. With the Blood Magic, not to mention restraining the Goblins, even killing the Goblin King was only a matter of one move for him.

Of course, without exposing his identity, it was not difficult for him to trap the Goblins with the Spellcasting Mage's methods.

"When do we leave?" Lind asked.

"Tomorrow," Vanessa said. "I need to make some preparations. It's getting late. These monsters will be stronger at night. We'll have a better chance during the day."

Lind had no demands on time, so he shrugged and said, "Then let's do it your way."

After discussing the details with Vanessa, Lind found an inn and booked a single room.

After entering the room, he first locked the door and released a Blood Magic called "Eye of Detection".

It was attached to the door of the room. Once someone approached Lind's room, the Eye of Detection would send an alarm to Lind.

After doing all this, Lind created another Blood Bat and quietly left the room. He flew above Blackwater Town and looked down at it from above.

Lind's main focus was to observe what his companion was doing.

Although Lind was not a ruthless person, if Vanessa showed the slightest threat to him…

He didn't mind killing her and nipping the danger in the bud.

Vanessa was, as she'd said, preparing for this mission.

She first found an alchemy workshop and bought a bottle of green potion. Then, she returned to her room and patiently applied the potion on her dagger. This step should be to attach the poison to her dagger.

Lind's Vampire Bat followed Vanessa around and realized that she did not have any ill intentions towards him, so he withdrew his Vampire Bat from Vanessa in low spirits.

After Lind's Blood Bat left Vanessa, he did not recall it. Instead, he controlled his Blood Bat to approach the Church of Light's chapel.

The closer the Blood Bat got to the Church of Light, the more Lind felt an aura permeating around the church. It formed a repulsive force against his Blood Bat, preventing it from approaching.

Above the church, there was a milky-white pillar of light that seemed to be burning with holy flames.

The closer he got, the hotter the Blood Bat felt.

Lind tried to control the Blood Bat to fly above the church.

However, before it could rush into the pillar of light, the scorching temperature burned it to ashes. The Blood Bat was instantly reduced to ashes.

Lind also quit the vision of the Blood Bats.

Something was wrong.

Lind opened his eyes, and there was a strange look in them.

The power of the Sacred Flame was too strong. The Blood Bat that Lind had created with Blood Magic was not very strong.

However, it was unable to resist the Sacred Flame and was instantly melted.

This meant that the priest in charge of the church in Blackwater Town was definitely not an ordinary person.

Why would the Church of Light send such a powerful figure to guard a border town that was not worth preaching?

Or was the Church of Light so powerful that even an ordinary priest had such strength?

Lind immediately shook his head and denied this possibility.

If the Church of Light was really so powerful, they would have swept through the entire world long ago. The entire Bayes Continent should not have three large countries and more than ten small duchies.

There should only be one country, which was the Kingdom of Light.

Obviously, the Church of Light was still restricted by many forces in this world.

They were not that powerful.

This also meant that the existence in Blackwater Town should have a high status in the Church of Light.

For such an existence to appear in Blackwater Town, it was obvious that they had ulterior motives for this border town.

The Church must have set up something in this town.

However, he did not know if the Church would have a conflict with him.

Lind thought about it for a while. He didn't have the slightest clue about the Church's plan. He could only shake his head and push the thoughts in his mind to the back of his mind.

No matter what, the Church of Light was not his main enemy.

His biggest problem was still this group of demon hunters and werewolves.

The night passed uneventfully.

The next day, Lind was awakened by the alarm of the Eye of Detection.

Lind saw a beautiful figure appear outside the door.

It was Vanessa.

"Dum! Dum! Dum!"

Vanessa knocked on the door three times.

"Come in," Lind said.

Vanessa pushed open the door and said to Lind, "Good morning, Mr. Ander."

"Good morning, Miss Vanessa. I wonder how Miss Vanessa knew I was staying here," Lind said after greeting Vanessa politely.

"As a Spellcasting Mage, Mr. Ander has received a lot of attention. I asked around and found out that you haven't gone out since you checked in here yesterday," Vanessa explained.

Lind did not continue to ask about this matter. Instead, he changed the topic and asked, "It looks like Miss Vanessa is ready. When are we leaving?"

Vanessa smiled and said, "Anytime, but I'm curious, Mr. Ander. Don't you need to prepare anything? For example, a magic scroll or a wizard staff?"

She gestured with her hand to show what the scroll looked like.

Lind shook his head and said, "I'm not an Alchemy Mage. I don't need magic scrolls to cast spells. I don't need a magic staff either. I just need a spell."

Lind wasn't spouting nonsense. These were all written in the magic book.

Even the Spellcasting Mages at the God level never needed a magic staff when they used Forbidden Spells.

They would only prepare one magic book.

The function of the magic book was not to increase the power of spells.

It was simply because Forbidden Spells were too long.

Mages who could reach the God level were usually very old and did not have a good memory.

It was too difficult for them to memorize a long and complicated Forbidden Spell.

Hence, they could only use magic books that recorded Forbidden Spells to assist in their memories.

As for the scepter in the hands of those old mages, it was not for magic either.

It was because they were old and their legs were not reliable. They needed a walking stick to help them walk.

Items that could truly assist in casting spells were very rare. For example, Mithril and Origin Crystals were all priceless treasures.

It was impossible for a piece of broken wood to be related to mysterious magic.

Vanessa didn't know if Lind was telling the truth or not, but it didn't look as if he was lying to her. She nodded silently, committing the knowledge to memory.
