Chapter 16 - Chapter IV: Continuation of Classes Part 6

I pass through the door which is actually a portal and find myself in a corridor lit by luminous stones. I think to myself that each of us will have to face this dungeon alone, as I turn around to see that the portal has given way to a dead end. Convinced that no one will join me on my journey, I decided to continue my adventure without waiting.

Before leaving, I thought to bring my musket as well as a backpack filled with provisions. After all, I could stay here for twenty-four hours... Along the way, I take out my weapon to be ready for any eventuality and remain alert to traps, but the walls, floor, and ceiling are all the same, making it difficult for me to discern anything on these smooth stone surfaces. Only the shadows created by the luminous stones provide a contrast to this monotonous path.

Continuing to travel down the corridor, I finally arrive at an intersection and have the choice to go left or right. Not knowing where to go, I decided to take the right path. Just a few minutes later, the floor of the corridor transforms into checkered tiles. I really think it's probably a trap. Using my imagination, I take one of the hard biscuits from my bag and throw it onto the tiles to trigger a possible trap. The biscuit lands on one tile and bounces on two other tiles, but nothing happens. Maybe I'm too alert, I tell myself. But still on my guard, I slowly advance on the tiles. After stepping on the third tile, I wait for a click and holes appear in the left wall. Without wasting any time, I decided to sprint to the other side of the checkered area. During my frantic run, I hear the wind whistle behind me, but I dare not stop and look. I manage to make it to the other side unharmed and catch my breath. Leaning against the wall, I look back. The part of the corridor where the checkered area was located is covered with a multitude of arrows. Glad that I followed my instinct, because I would have probably ended up like a porcupine, I think to myself as I continue to catch my breath before setting off again…

In the distance, I hear a faint sound, a small grunt similar to that of a domestic dog, but an octave deeper. Taking a slow step forward, I check that my musket is loaded. When I reach the end of the corridor, I glance out of the corner of my eye at the left branch and see a small, brown, hairy creature with tentacles around its mouth. According to what I have read in a book, it would be a Radonix. They usually live in the meadows in small groups and attack in waves with quick and vicious blows, while other members use psionic attacks to stun their prey. It's a very effective hunting technique against prey, so let's hope there's only one...

I continue to silently move forward and take aim to ensure a good shot. The Radonix hasn't heard me yet, so I take the opportunity to shoot it. BAM! The creature falls to the ground, its head partially blown off by the shot. I approach and hit it with my musket to make sure it's really dead. Better safe than sorry, I think to myself with a smirk. This is the first time I've killed a monster, but I'm happy about it since it's not uncommon for someone to freeze during their first execution. Hence my joy at not being one of them. After wiping the butt of my musket on the monster's fur, I continue on my way. I hear growling again, so I recharge my weapon with my mana and set off once it's done. A little further on, two more Radonix are walking around. Calmly, I aim at one and shoot it, it collapses with a dull thud, but the second one charges at me. It's about twenty meters away from me, so I back up while reloading and turning the corner from where I came. Once a few meters away from the corner, I take position to shoot again. The monstrous beast turns the corner at full speed and its tentacles swirl around its mouth. It's coming much faster than I thought. With my eyes wide and my heart pounding, I finish reloading and shoot it in the head just before it can leap on me. The creature crashes to the ground and slides a few meters before coming to a stop at my feet... Its tentacles wriggle and touch the tips of my shoes in its last breath. I can't help but think I just narrowly escaped death. One more second and it would have pounced on me. I decided to regain my composure before continuing my adventure…

After about three to four hours, I reach a room where a fire is already lit. I explore the room and find that it only leads to a small corridor where a portal is located. It appears as a small swirling emerald pool with a small sharp sound emanating from it. Before venturing into it, I decided to rest and eat some of the rations I brought in my bag. While eating, I open my status window to see if I've leveled up after my previous battles:

Nom : Heolstor Xel'Mourndor

Niveau : 02

Profession : Assimilateur (Commun)

Talent : Assimilation

STATS : ● Force : 10

● Agilité : 11

● Intelligence : 10

● Mana : 10

● Dextérité : 11

● Chance : 10

● Constitution : 10

STATS À DISTRIBUER : 3

Compétences :

● Synchronisation ●

Assimilation :

● Radonix 90% ●

Oh! I have new information on my status window! I gained a point in agility and dexterity, which must be due to my intensive training with the musket during my free time, and three stats to allocate that I obtained by leveling up. But the most surprising thing is the new section: Void acquisitions, I wonder what the 90% means? I'll probably find out when it reaches 100%. Until then, I'll keep my free stat points in case I need them later.
