Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 – Birthday Party

Our Main Location, the one we were at currently, consisted of several thousand square acres of land which was mostly used to reconstruct a small city. The Training Grounds was what they called the city, it was where all of the side kicks and heroes in our employment trained when they weren't on duty. Admiring how accurate everything was, my grandfather told me to focus for a moment.

"Now then, you are too young to get into combat training. If I taught you now, your grandmother and mother would have my hide. Since that is off the table for the time being, what skills would you like to practice?", he asked me.

'Isn't the teacher the one that comes up with lessons?', I thought, "Can we maybe work on parkour or something like that?"

"Where did you learn that word?", he questioned.

"Uh…someone on Herotube mentioned it. Some Heroes use it to chase criminals, scale buildings, and subdue their opponents.", I replied.

Nodding his head, he accepted that answer as Herotube was an up-and-coming platform some of the younger Heroes used to gain popularity with the public. The only reason I knew the name was because of all the online ads I saw while researching my family. Agreeing to that we spent the day refreshing the parkour skills that I hadn't used since I was an Assassin. Training up till 5 pm, my grandfather called it a day as he was about to keel over. Telling me that I had done a good job today, he patted me on the shoulder with a proud smile.

"You are far more energetic than your father was.", he laughed as we walked back to the office, "Did I ever tell you how I had to bribe your father with ice cream to get him to train? Back when he was your age all he wanted to do was play video games, he never wanted to train himself or his Quirk."

Listening to his story, it seemed like my father was quite the lazy child as were my uncle and aunt. From what he told me, it appeared that my uncle ran a very successful law firm and my aunt was a big wig at some tech company. Neither of them was bitter with my father for taking the family company, in fact, they supposedly pitied him as he didn't have a choice in the matter.

Ending the story as we entered the building, my parents were patiently waiting for us at the Front Desk.

"How was his training?", dad asked.

"He ran circles around me, haha, I must be getting old!", grandpa chuckled, "Cole here is a natural, I believe he has a bright future ahead of him."

"That's good to hear.", dad replied with a smile, "Cole, we have a party to attend tomorrow. A friend of mine's daughter is turning 5 tomorrow and they invited you to attend with us."

Nodding my head, I pretended to be excited but I wasn't. In four of my five previous lives, I had attended countless parties for children just because they were the offspring of my supporters. Most kids were spoiled rotten little shits that used their parent's clout to get away with many things. If I had been allowed to raise my children, they wouldn't have gotten away with a fraction of what other children did.

Leaving it at that, I said goodbye to my grandfather and went home with my parents.

—Next Day—

Getting to sleep in a bit, I woke up at 8 am and got to work researching things on my computer. Since our family had branches all over the country, I had access to the records for every employee's Quirk. If there were any useful/powerful Quirks in our agency, I wanted to make a copy of them for my personal use. For the time being, I would stick to using electricity-based feats, but slowly integrate other powers into my arsenal.

I had Smoke, Light, Concrete, Video, Ice, and Napalm powers at my disposal currently with a host of other powers just waiting for me to discover them. Each would take some getting used to and would have to be trained in secret till I could control them better. Napalm would be reserved solely for criminals I didn't mind killing as it was lethal every time unless the person was fireproof.

'Hmm…no one at our main office has anything that stands out. Most of them are useful for crime fighting, they're just not useful for killing a God or people.', I thought, 'Let's check out my dad's friends…'

Trying to granularly search through results, I realized just how famous we were. The Hero Ranking system wasn't fully in place yet so there was just the unofficial list, and my dad was in the top five. Unable to check who were genuine friends and who was riding his coattails I had to accept I was walking into this even blind.

Leaving my room, I went down and had a bowl of cereal for breakfast and watched some tv. Unsurprisingly there were a ton of Hero cartoons with little to nothing else on the airwaves. This culture of heroism was good for the public, but it made me sick as I knew deep down only a small portion of Heroes were good people. For the majority of heroes, it was a job that paid handsomely the more crime they stopped.

"It's the same where ever I go…", I mumbled, "I just wish they had Big Chungus or something else. The first world I end up in with television only has superhero cartoons!"

Finishing my bowl of cereal in a hurry, I shut off the television and tried to think of what I could do today before the party. As I was looking at my collection of books, my mother came in to check on me. Telling me that we would be leaving in an hour for the party I inquired about why we were going so early.

"We have grown up things to attend to.", she replied then left my room.

Tossing all my plans out of the window, I got changed and went to sit in the living room.

—Two Hours Later—

"Cole, I want you to behave yourself. There will be very important people here that support our agency. Do your best to get along with their children, they will be your friends in the future.", my dad told me as we pulled up to the valet parking booth.

Getting out of the car, my parents made themselves scarce leaving me all alone. Wandering around the party looking at everyone, I had no idea who any of these people were. Since I knew only bits and pieces of the storyline in Japan, everything here in the States was unknown to me…except that show off Chris Skyline. Grabbing a plate of chicken wings, I sat away from everyone else surveying the area.

Due to multiple attempts on my life in two of my past transmigrations, I didn't like sitting out in the open. I preferred sitting in secluded areas where I could easily watch my surroundings without fear of being stabbed in the back. As I was watching everyone, I saw a group of kids walking out with a girl who I assumed this party was for. She looked like the typical spoiled brat I was accustomed to seeing at parties.

Watching her walk up to my parents, my dad started scanning the area for me. Hearing him call out for me a few moments, I wanted to immediately go home. Heading to the buffet first, I got another helping of food before heading over.

"Yes, dad?", I responded as I approached with another plate of wings.

"Ah, you were in line for food.", he said with relief, "Cole, this is Crystal, she is Herman Flint's daughter. Herman and I went to high school together, they are Heroes like us."

"Hello Cole, it's nice to meet you.", Crystal replied offering her hand to me.

"Likewise.", I responded as I shook her hand.

Suggesting I go play with her and her friends, I said I would do so after I finished my meal. Deciding that her time was more important than mine, she told me that they were just about to eat anyways and that I could join them. Pulling me away with her entourage, I looked at my dad who was giving me a scolding look. Grabbing their plates, all of us sat down to eat together though I still sat on the edge of the group.

"Why are you sitting over there, we don't bite.", Crystal assured me.

"I am fine here.", I responded.

Moving next to me, she told me that it wasn't good to be by myself. Changing my initial assessment of her, I now thought she was one of those goodie-goodie people that tried to push themselves on everyone. Tuning her out, I just ate my wings in silence which seemed to irritate her. After ten minutes of no response from me, she snapped.

"Why are you being mean to me!?", she shouted.

Looking at her with a confused look, I asked her why she would say something like that. Saying that I was just eating my food quietly didn't mean I was being mean to her. Glaring at me, it was clear she didn't like being ignored at all. Before I knew it, she opened her mouth and screamed at me. Realizing that she was using her Quirk too late, I was sent flying by her hypersonic voice.

"Crystal!!", her father barked, "What do you think you are doing!?"

"He was being mean to me!", she said.

"Cole was just eating his food!", he retorted having been watching us out of the corner of his eye, "I have told you several times that you can't use your Quirk right next to someone! You could kill someone with your Quirk if you aren't careful!"

"I was trying to be nice, but he wasn't talking to me!", she cried, "I am sorry!!"

Lecturing her about her behavior, he spanked her and told her that didn't give her the right to use her Quirk on me. Barely able to hear what they were saying, my ears were still ringing from her attack. Thanks to my increased durability from being a Conduit and from my stats, other than the ringing, I was completely unharmed. Dusting myself off, I looked at her in disdain.

If we were adults, I would have fried her for pulling a stunt like that. Since we were kids though, it wasn't worth it to do anything. Her father was taking care of it which was all that mattered. That said…if we ever did step in the ring in the future, I would return this favor tenfold. Other than my lovers, in all my lives, I had no problem dishing out beatings to any gender.

"Cole, are you okay!?", mom shouted as my hearing returned to normal.

"Yes mom I am fine, my ears only hurt for a few moments.", I assured her though I knew that wasn't going to cut it.

"We are taking you to the hospital!", she said completely ignoring what I said.

Agreeing with her, my parents carried me away from the party. As we were leaving, I watch Crystal get sent to her room for a timeout.

—Hospital—

Having doctors run a battery of tests on me, my parents watched through the window as I got poked and prodded by a nurse and doctor. Satisfied that I was completely unharmed, the doctor walked out to tell them while the nurse got me a lollipop. I half wanted to tell her that I didn't want one, but that was something no child would say no to. Accepting it from her, I walked out of the room to my parents.

"You sure he is fine?", my dad asked the doctor.

"David, I have patched you up more times than I can count. Your son is in perfect health, that said if he really did get hit by Crystal's Quirk and walked away unharmed…his Quirk isn't only electrical based. I suspect he either has increased durability or a healing factor.", the doctor told them.

Looking at me with a concerned expression, I asked them if we could go home now. Letting out a sigh, my parents thanked the doctor and took me home.
