Chapter 3 - Setting off

As soon as I opened the door with my spare key, my arms were itching like crazy, the door opened quietly much to my surprise. revealing my mom making circles next to the entrance and looking at her watch almost as if she was a businessman that was late to work in any type of movie.

"Where did you go..." She had tears rolling down her eyes, and I couldn't help but stand there in silence.

I dropped my hands down my eyes starting to shine, what have I done? Even though I had no idea what was wrong I realized it was something that happened because of me.

"Mom, are you okay?" I hardly mustered enough strength to ask her, turning and gazing right into my eyes she smiled her eyes shining like the sun- I tried to avoid eye contact by looking left. Running at me even though the entrance door was made of metal she seemed like she didn't care almost as if I was lost for a year...

"WHERE WERE YOU" She shouted or cried I couldn't tell... "I thought you were taken..." She sobbed

Looking at myself in the mirror across the room, I could see a pair of waterworks coming. But with sheer willpower, I held it back patting my mom's back who was almost squishing me to death.

"What happened?" I tilted my head.

She looked me dead in the eyes and her mouth twitched "Young man you were gone for a day I thought you were kidnapped! What happened..."

"A DAY?!?!?" I shouted, my emotions mixing like jello and coffee.

"Yes..." Mom quickly changed in tone, now her voice was like a girl with glasses in a romance anime, this wasn't normal. Mom only spoke in this tone when she was either hiding something or lying- Lying wasn't her specialty.

I decided not to pressure her and sat down on the crusty dark red couch, as I slowly started explaining what happened from when I got a haircut to what happened in the dream.

"So one of those limbo dreams?" Mom sweated "Thank god, I thought you disappeared on me."

"Never would, anyway I gotta go tomorrow right?" Now that I got emotions out of the way, I was feeling quite hungry...

"Yes"

"Can we make some waffles?!?" I didn't hesitate to ask because if I was going down I was filling myself to the brim first.

"Sure honey, but you get only 1"

That night I slept like an angel, my bed felt like a giant piece of cotton and I didn't wanna look at some manga and sleep at 2 am for once this was an amazing development never have I been excited about the concept in school but almost as if I got a poisoned waffle: I felt excited about tomorrow.

...

I outstretched my arms at the top of my roof, I could run a marathon with my dino-designed pajamas I was that hyped. That was until I remembered it was time... So my smile immediately gloomed as I glazed around my room with my eyes seeing my desk with my electronics such as a laptop, iPad, and phone. I couldn't decide what to take should I take all of it?

"I should probably take 2, but the laptop might be too long" I scratched my chin before I decided "Phone and iPad!"

I snatched them down but the last time I didn't take everything I regretted my actions dearly, so hoping this would not happen I wore my navy-styled jacket and black t-shirt since the navy was my favorite I already washed it overnight. It was still a little soggy but it was fine.

Saying goodbye to my blue walls and white wardrobe, and most importantly to my green laptop. I headed out as soon as mom said "It's almost time."

"I'm coming, mom!" I shouted back, trying to fake a smile on my face to seem polite. Making my head look like one of those young masters in a martial arts manga.

Mom had already packed my luggage which looked like it was about to explode thanks to all the clothes, I had my backpack in my back with my wallet and electronics and of course my pencil case. I was sadly ready.

I waved back at my mom before I left "Don't miss me like a homing laser."

"Don't worry I won't."

...

I rolled down the stairs like a skateboarder, the buttons of my jacket hardly holding up the same as the concrete stairs. Thanks to my abnormal speed I reached the streets quick as day.

The metallic giant buildings and the holographic advertisements filled with flying trains are a utopia of the old world they say- but those flying trains only reminded me of one location 3 semesters of hell. And I was not excited about this children's boot camp.

This school pretty much was, getting kids ready to kill monsters.

Taking me about 10 minutes to reach the "floating station", and I could feel my nausea hitting. I guess eating waffles before bed was not the best choice.

Glancing over my shoulder I could see more people my age waiting for the schools train, at the entrance we had given our tickets to the police officers with glasses. Of course, a crowd was forming around some girls as there were mostly guys from this town.

A purple-haired and orange-haired girl was already being offered as a cult sacrifice inside their chambers.

"I don't really wanna mess with them though..." I sighed.

So I just sat on a nearby bench and lay down my tensed-up shoulders, cracking my knuckles I waited for about another 20 minutes just for the train to come. My excitement was slowing down with every step I take on this journey.

"The Doors Are opening" A voice came in from the train as everybody rushed to catch the good seats, me included.

The bus was full of people, racing to take one of the lime green seats and not stand up in one of those handles. Or some tried to catch a place next to the television, or the girls.

But for me sitting alone was the best choice first of all I get good scenery in the less overpopulated parts and I can just look at my phone and not be bothered by somebody's shoulder touching me.

I laid down in one of the 5 seats like it was a bed, dropping my phone in my head while I was trying to find a movie.

"This is gonna be a long year..."

For me the year was decided by 1 bad moment alone.
