Chapter 57 - Chapter 56.

Zach's POV.

We were completely surrounded on all sides. It was just my team and I left alive in the base. The Black Death Order made sure of that.

"Boss we need to escape into the jungle."

"Even with our strength we can't win against their numbers."

"Please boss we still got each other. Were brothers right, so as long as we are together were good."

I looked around at my team, my brothers. We had been through so much that I often forgot that we were still men. We were still scared of death, no matter what.

They were right all that mattered now was that we made it out of this mess alive. So, I nodded my head, that was all they needed. Once they knew we were leaving my brothers got to work right away.

Checking our ammo, making sure that none of us were to injured to run and collecting whatever supplies we could for the trek.

After a few minutes we seemed to be all good and ready to depart.

"We ready boys?" I asked making sure that we were all on the same page.

They all gave me the look that signified that they were ready to get out of this horrid place. Not wasting any time, I made a hand signal to let everyone know that we were moving out.

We all moved single file, sticking to the shadows. The last thing that we needed now was for one of us to get shot in the back as we made our escape.

We didn't look back, knowing that if we did the enemy would most likely be behind us. Looking back is always a sign that you are scared and weak, we were not. We were just trying to survive.

If we lived another day, then we would be able to go back home or wherever home was for most of us. To us this was all that we had.

It was all that mattered.

I forgot how long we had been running for, it was long enough for the sun to just barely crest over the horizon. Signify that night was coming to an end.

We had been running by my estimation for nearly two hours straight. I looked around and could see that it was beginning to take its toll on us. We needed to stop and take a break.

The only problem with that was it would allow time for the enemy to get closer to us. Time that we did not have.

"Alright five-minute break. Let's stop here." I said and not a surprise at all everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

We were all dead tired.

I stayed on watch. Even though I was dead tired as well. If we were to be ambushed here, then all of us would be goners. Worst case scenario I would hold off the enemy and let my brothers escape.

My life wasn't as important to me as much as theirs was. I needed them alive, if not for my own sanity.

That was when I heard the snap of a tree branch off to my right.

"Snap!"

I immediately moved over to check out what caused the noise. To my dismay I saw enemy soldier moving quickly towards our direction. With even more numbers than they had before. They truly meant to wipe us all out, not matter what.

I looked back at my brothers, none of whom seemed to notice the disturbance as they were to exhaust both mentally and physically.

With a heavy heart I made my decision and ran the opposite direction. Making as much noise as I could. Drawing the enemy's attention away from my team.

This was probably a very stupid and selfish choice to make, but as I looked at my exhausted team, I knew that we could fight it out together but in the process some of us would die and like I said earlier, I couldn't let that happen.

This was my choice to make, and I regret nothing.
