"Amelia? Are you following what I'm saying?" To grab my attention, she clapped her hands in front of my face and snapped them. "You are not paying attention!"
I tried to chuckle, but my face was already coated in a thick layer of sweat. Because of this, the tears that were falling from my eyes and the sweat that was running down the sides of my neck were almost mixing together. The expression on my face gave the impression that I had just seen something horrible in the woods, which was something that definitely did not escape Nikita's vision. Nikita's intense staring at me was the clue that led me to this conclusion.
I tried to open my mouth to speak again, but it felt like someone had been shoving my tongue into the back of my mouth for some time. It appeared as though someone had been doing this for some time. When Nikita suddenly saw that my entire body was continuing to tremble and shiver, her level of concern increased to a higher level than it had been before. Because I had no other option, I made the decision to tell her about my experience and the interaction I had. I was anxious about whether or not I would be able to tell her about that occurrence, but in the end, I did tell her about it.
"All right, let me tell you about it now," I announced.
If things continued as they were, I was certain that Nikita would become irate. I was aware of their kind, that much was evident; yet, having firsthand experience with them was something pretty unusual, as were the accounts of encounters with them. Because Nikita is such a close friend of mine, I had every reason to believe that she would keep my secret a secret. As a result, I came to the conclusion that the most responsible thing to do would be to let her know about it.
"Something incredible took place to me deep within the forest, and I understand that you may find it hard to believe what I witnessed. Nevertheless, I am not being dishonest, and there is no need for me to behave in such a manner, particularly toward you, Nikita. There is no justification for it. You are aware of that, right?"
I hung around to see how she would react.
"Just what exactly do you mean? Would you be able to explain it to me in detail? Amelia, your explanation is making things even more unclear."
I'm still out of breath. I know that my explanation to her was messy, but she should have waited because it was evident that my body was not yet ready for what happened. I made a hand gesture in an attempt to express what had taken place, but ultimately I was unsuccessful.
"When I was in the middle of the forest, I spotted a white wolf."
The words barely came out of my mouth.
Nikita couldn't stop looking at me as though she didn't understand a word I said. I stared at her, attempting to convince her that what I was saying was true. I am not joking or making this up; it really happened.
"Trust me, Nikita. He appears to be incredibly frightening, particularly his eyes."
In only a few minutes, Nikita's jaw almost fell to the ground. Perhaps she had just absorbed my remarks regarding the wolf sighting. And to convince her even more, I described to her how big and tall it was. I also told how it looked at me. And that's terrifying.
"He is a man. I don't know if I'm just making things up in my head, but I'm very sure that I truly saw a white wolf, and then all of a sudden it changed into the image of a man. The man that I first saw during my stay on this island. I am not sure if he lives here or not."
"Are you saying that you actually saw a wolf?"
I nodded. I silently wished that she already believed in me.
"Yes. A wolf. Werewolves."
A strange smile twisted the corner of her lips. It was unusual because I only saw those smiles sometimes.
"Hey, Amelia, are you kidding me? Such creatures only exist in the books, and I know you love to read those kinds of genres."
"No, Nikita! I am telling the truth!"
"Are you sure? Does the book that you are currently reading not contain the information that you are stating?" I nodded again to indicate that what I was saying was true. "Is this true? Could it be that you're trying to play a joke on me?"
My face got serious. There was no reason for me to act in such a manner toward her. Do you think I am going to waste my time by lying? What kind of things can I get there? Nothing.
"When I say that to you, Nikita, I am stating the truth since there is no need for me to lie and I do not want to hurt your feelings."
Nikita did not respond. She must be thinking about my reason. When I got to that point, I observed that her eyes had suddenly shifted their attention to the expansive forest view that was on our side. I followed her eyes as they wandered, and when I saw the forest once more after being away from it for some time, I was once more appalled by what I had experienced there earlier.
"You won't believe me, Nikita?"
Yet she did not reply again. Maybe she had other things on her mind.
"I am being completely honest here. I spotted him inside. You should check on him inside the forest if you want to."
"Hey, are you fooling me? Do you want me to establish the veracity of your claim by venturing deep into the woods by myself? Amelia, even if it were impossible for it to happen, I will still believe in you even though it did not happen and it is only your make-believe stories."
"Trust me, Nikita..."
She nodded several times and then came to me to hold me on both of my shoulders. She softly squeezed her hands, maybe to calm me down because she knew that I was still too frightened for my experience.
"Alright, I'll admit that I have faith in you now. You were correct when you said that you had spotted a wolf earlier. Are you content at this moment?"
We both went into silence. I made an effort to stop talking. This was more than enough!
"But you know what Nikita is? He is very good-looking. His human form as well as his wolf form. Somehow I love his eyes. And, you know what? I can't quite explain the way I feel about him. It would appear that we have met somewhere in the past."
"Could it be that he was your soulmate?"
Soulmate my ass!
I glared at her and made a face. For some reason, my heart beats faster, which at its speed seems to be about to collapse. We both laughed. I know she's only joking with her statement.
