Chapter 5 - Don't tell me..

"Lester! Lester! get a hold of yourself." Johaen said holding the neckline of Lester's T-Shirt.

Lester jerked his head, then his eyes turned back to original.

"I fear I was right." Nathaniel said while crossing his arms.

"What's wrong?" Johaen inquired.

"Apparently you guys met some humans last night." Nathaniel replied.

"What in the world??" Dael said out of surprise. He was expecting that something was wrong, but he did not think they would be The 'Humans'.

"I had that doubt too.." Johaen agreed.

"Because l don't think we have any vampires around who could be powerful enough to have multiple vampire forms. And that blood.. So unfamiliar." Johaen added.

"What now?" Dael asked, looking at Nathaniel.

"Nothing much, your friend Lester, has to control himself to not taste that fluid ever again, because it's highly addictive, harmful and could be life threatening for him." Nathaniel replied.

"It's good that his smelling instincts are weak, he won't be able to find any of that kind again." Johaen said in relief.

"Now that we are familiar with Humans, by their bloods scent or any other traits, just stay way from them." Dael warned, also feeling guilty for getting involved.

"How were humans even here, in Dongiana. The densest habitat of vampires." Nathaniel pondered out loud.

"Point to be noticed." Johaen said, agreeing with Nathaniel's question.

"They said something about tracking or something." Dael told them.

"Wait, that day you were talking about their paper or something." Johaen reminded.

"Yes, indeed I was." Nathaniel nodded.

"Guys, I'm leaving, I'm not feeling very well." Lester said, while looking at Nathaniel for approval.

Nathaniel nodded.

"As you wish.." Johaen said.

"Don't mention anything to Lor, alright.." Dael shouted as Lester made his way out.

"Shut up." Lester shouted back.

Before leaving, he tried turning again 2-3 times. His last attempt was successful when he was able to turn into a vulture, and flew away in a flippy floppy way.

"I'm leaving too. Might as well get some rest." Dael said, before turning into a fox and left.

Nathaniel turned, looked at Johaen and said "After all, you're dumb too." Nathaniel expected Johaen to have handled the situation better.

Nathaniel stood up and walked his way out.

Johaen asked Nathaniel before he could leave "Why was he able to turn last night, when he just drank the blood?"

"Maybe, the blood takes a few minutes to come into action." Nathaniel replied before getting out of the room.

"Where are you going?" Johaen asked.

"To my room." Nathaniel replied and left.

Nathaniel went to his room and opened his books where he left them last night. He was trying to focus on what he was reading, but he couldn't help with his curiosity about humans. The only creatures whose blood has the power to leave vampires living dead.

Nathaniel decided to take a walk again like last night, the sun was setting already. He walked on the empty streets. a weird chilly silence could be sensed this time.

Nathaniel enjoyed his walk in the eerie streets of Dongiana. He found his way to Flavaras again. Entered inside, same attender attended him.

"Oh, Hello again sir. Back for your peacock's necks?" Attender greeted.

"Yeah. A small snack wouldn't be a problem I guess." Nathaniel nodded.

Nathaniel noticed other vampires around the place, which was surprising, because the last time he was at this place, he could hardly see any visitor.

"I guess people are celebrating something, huh." Nathaniel said to the attender who was writing his order on the same register with the little golden stick like last time.

"Oh no sir, we usually get more orders of parcels. All this decoration for nothing huh." Attender replied pointing at the various realistic looking organs from many different animal species used as wall decorations.

Nathaniel stared at him blankly, he did not show much emotions or expressions usually. Except for smiling of course, he has various flavors of that no doubt.

"Not celebration, I would rather call it fear. This crowd is here because of the bodies found." The attender added to make sense.

"What bodies?" Nathaniel asked cluelessly not showing much interest on the information.

"The bodies of which The entire Dongiana is talking about.." Attender replied to the uninterested listener.

Nathaniel shrugged, gesturing his unawareness to the topic.

"Don't tell me you haven't heard about the 'Cut throats' sir."

"Where?" Nathaniel immedietly followed up.

"The border forests." Attender replied.

The border forest.. That was not very far from the elder banyan, Nathaniel thought to himself.

"Do you know when?" Nathaniel inquired.

"It was around afternoon as far as I recall. That's when this place started crowding and I heard of the incident."

Afternoon? That's when Lester left the house.. Could it be? could Lester be involved in this somehow? Nathaniel thought.

"I heard the bodies were weird, there palms were slit too." The attender added more detail.

The attender looked at Nathaniel. He thought of pushing his buttons. So he said to Nathaniel "I think after hearing all this, you will also book a table sir?"

Nathaniel looked at him and said, "I've to leave, do you have something that's prepared already."

"Of course we do sir, We are a quality venture. We prepare plenty of items for the quick service orders. and we-"

"Just answer the question." Nathaniel said before giving an eerie smile to what the attender got chills all over.

"How about chicken wings? It's the most frequent order we get, so we prepare them before hand. It would just take some minutes." Attender said rubbing his left hand from his right hand's thumb out of nervousness while looking at Nathaniel for a reply.

"Yea, fine by me." Nathaniel answered disinterestedly.

"But I would stay away from it, if I were you sir." Attender said looking into Nathaniel's deep dark eyes.

"What?" Nathaniel asked in a confused tone like he did not just give a dead scary smile to the attender just a moment ago.

"Any wise vampire would. Whoever managed to kill three vampires on their own, is not to be meddled with." Attender advised, more like attempted to scare Nathaniel.

"Ohh, I'd ponder on your valuable advice." Nathaniel said sarcastically. He wasn't into meaningless conversations and he was trying his best to be as kind as he could out of courtesy.

The attender smiled and held back any more cunning ideas coming to his mind. He knew well, that this was as far as he could go. He was aware that Nathaniel was not the kind of vampire to be involved with negatively.

After a few minutes of standing on the counter and waiting. Nathaniel's parcel arrived.

"Your order sir." Attender said while handing the maroon bag to Nathaniel.

"Your exchange sir." Nathaniel said instead of saying thank you, handing the attender 2 copper coins.

Nathaniel looked around toward the crowd and said "Looks like you're going to earn a lot of profit today..".

Nathaniel left the place, while other vampires were staring at him. They were surprised to see a vampire going out on the streets in his original form when such an incident took place the same day.

Nathaniel inspected the trees on his way back, and found two parrots on one of the tree trunks. He jumped and caught one of the parrot, while the other flew in air.

Nathaniel checked the parrot's eyes, to see if they were abnormally colored(vampire), pink or normal to make sure it was a Messenger-Parrot.

After confirming it was an original Messenger-Parrot, by seeing the right shade of pink in it's eyes. Nathaniel spoke his message to it and directed it to Johaen.

"What kinds of friends do you have Joha.." Nathaniel said out loud, watching the bird flying away.
