Chapter 73 - A 200-Year-Old Problem

The next morning found the Pulse Sparrows in a pickle, a rival crew had followed them to their next score, and they were looking to steal. The Ghost was using the F4U to keep their goons at bay from the air, but he was limited, firing the rocket pods would alert the droppers and police, and they didn't need that, same deal with dropping bombs. However, at 446 mph, it was still a very big threat, the F4U had taken out the rival crew's transportation, so they'd be on foot.

"We got the score, clear us a way out!" said LQ over his comms

"Roger that, coming around for a long pass." copied Ghost

The F4U banked around and strafed the ground, bullets lay waste to enemies in the immediate area. The Pulse Sparrows loaded into their van and sped off. The F4U began to follow them, attempting to stay off the FCPD radar. The van hopped on the freeway headed back to Cayle, however, the F4U had to divert paths. Modern air vehicles had VTOL, and were required to stop, the F4U was 200 years old and didn't have any form of VTOL, so the Ghost flew under the freeway, however, some of the street goon were on their tail.

"GHOST! We need aerial cover!"

"Fuck...Alright hold tight."

The F4U spins out from under the freeway and flies over it, taking out the goons in quick time. This stunt didn't go unnoticed by the FCPD, who promptly took off after the old warbird.

Sirens blared as the police closed in on the old warbird. The Ghost punched it, the F4U vanished behind a few skyscrapers maxing it at 446 mph, tearing past buildings and over the streets. With the upgraded handling and maneuverability, the 200-year-old warbird had no trouble dusting the police.

Kip managed to calm the road cops by stating the guys chasing them were psychos, and the odd looking craft had saved them.

The police didn't dig any further, so the Corsair slipped away written off as a psycho attack ended.

Back at Cayle's, the rest of the team got their cuts, then overhead came the F4U Corsair, cayle looked up as he flew close to the ground so Cayle could hear the whistle as it passed by. He and the others headed over to the Sparrows' Nest and watched it land, the chop, chop of the old radial engine made Cayle smile as the Ghost folded its wings and pulled it into the Nest.

Shutting off the engine, Ghost hopped out.

"My, my, Mr. Ghost, how much you want for it?" asked Cayle

"It's not for sale, beside, you couldn't afford it." said the Ghost

Cayle laughed and LQ paid Ghost his cut.

They all decided to sit down, relax and have a bit to eat after a hard days work, however things were brewing deep in the dark heart of the city.

"Sir, we captured this footage today."

"Why are you wasting my time with such matters."

"Sir, a 200-year-old warbird was seen killing 2 psychos, unknown origin."

"So? Those psycho's nearly killed one of my most valuable assets! Damn warbird did us a favor!"

"Sir, we don't have a clue where it came from, nor who it belongs to."

"Deacon, I'll ask you more when it becomes a problem, for now, shut up and ignore it."

"Yes sir."

For now the F4U was off the corporate radar, keeping the Ghost out of their sights.

"Aye metal head, check it, some old plane killed two psychos today."

"Fuck, OFF, QUICKLY!" growled a metallic, raspy voice.

One of the full-chrome soldiers inspected the picture, the pilot wasn't visible, not any distinct markings.

"Keep an eye on this one, we'll be ready for it." growled the soldier
