Chapter 139 - Something they would never forget

"How have you been?" Treasure asked Dexter with concern.

"Well, I've been good. What about you?" he said.

Treasure shook her head staring at Dexter. "Come on, you don't have to pretend with me, I know you're not okay," she said gently.

Dexter paused for a moment. He thought he could hide his worries from Treasure but he failed. Treasure could see right through him.

"Is it because of your boss Mr. McAlester?" she asked him.

"How did you know about it?" Dexter asked with surprise written all over his face.

"Well, Mr. McAlester is well known, and news about him spreads quickly," Treasure explained. "Plus, bad news often travels faster than good news"

Dexter nodded in agreement, then asked, "Do you think he'll be okay?"

Treasure placed a hand on Dexter's arm and looked at him in the eye "Of course he will," she said reassuringly. "The doctors are doing everything they can to make sure he's okay, and I'm sure they're some of the best doctors money can buy. Besides, Mr. McAlester is a strong man too. I'm sure he'll pull through this" she said.

Dexter let out a deep breath, feeling some of the tension in his body release. "Thanks, Treasure… I really appreciate it"

"No problem. I'm always here if you need someone to talk to," she said, giving him a warm smile.

Dexter returned the smile with a cute one. It was clear that he needed some words of encouragement, and Treasure was glad she could provide that for him.

"What about your sister? How has she been dealing with this? You know she cares about him a lot," she said.

"yeah," Dexter replied. "She's been a mess ever since she heard the news. I don't know what to do to make her feel any better. I'm so worried about her and what's worse is that she's the only family I have," he said sadly.

Treasure gave Dexter a sympathetic look. "It's understandable that you're worried about your sister. She's going through a difficult time right now, and it's okay for you to feel worried about her. But remember, she's strong and resilient, just like you are. It's also important to focus on taking care of yourself right now so that you can be there for her. Try to take things one day at a time, and remember that you're not alone,"

As she spoke, she could see Dexter's expression soften. He seemed to be taking in her words and she was willing to do whatever she could to help him get through this.

"Just remember, you can always talk to me about anything, okay?" Treasure said. "I'm here to listen, and you don't have to act tough in front of me. You're my friend, and I want to be there for you just like you've been there for me"

Dexter's shoulders relaxed as he exhaled. He was glad to know that Treasure cared about him this much and he felt a deep sense of gratitude towards her. She has always been such a supportive, and understanding friend.

"Thank you, Treasure, and thanks for coming to see me. I didn't know how much I really needed you," Dexter said and Treasure smiled.

He hugged her one more time and Treasure reciprocated the hug, patting his back. They pulled apart for a bit gazing into each other's eyes.

The world around them seemed to fade away, and for a moment, it was as if time had stopped. Dexter found himself lost in Treasure's eyes, unable to look away. Even the medicated glasses she was wearing couldn't hide the beauty of her eyes. His eyes fell on her lips, and he felt a sudden urge to kiss her. It was as if he were pulled in by some invisible force, unable to resist the temptation.

Dexter gently brushed the hair away from Treasure's forehead, tucking it behind her ear. Then, he softly ran his fingers through her cheeks feeling the softness of her skin.

Treasure's heart was racing, so loud that she was sure Dexter could hear it. She felt her chest rising and falling with every breath as if she were standing on the edge of a cliff. The feeling of his touch on her skin was sending shivers down her spine, and she craved more.

Dexter noticed that Treasure wasn't pulling away from his touch, and so he took that as a sign that she was okay with it. He leaned in closer, his heart beating in his chest, and tilted his head to the right, getting ready to lock lips with her. And just as their lips were about to touch, Treasure took a quick step back, her hand covering her mouth in surprise.

Dexter was startled by her reaction. He saw her gasp with shock as if she had been holding her breath. She wasn't expecting this to happen at all. They almost kissed but she stopped it just in time.

Dexter's heart sank as he took a step back, trying to regain his composure. He felt like an idiot as if he had read the situation completely wrong. He didn't mean to make her uncomfortable or feel scared, he just wanted to kiss her.

Treasure's eyes were wide open and her hands were still covering her mouth. She looked as if she was in a state of shock like she had no idea what to say or do next.

Dexter took a deep breath, gathering his thoughts. He felt embarrassed and ashamed for allowing his selfish desire to get the best of him. He was cursing himself in his head for making a move on Treasure without knowing for sure if she felt the same way. He should have known better than to risk their friendship like that.

Finally, he managed to mutter, "I'm sorry," His voice was quiet, and he couldn't bring himself to look her in the eyes. He knew he had messed up.

Treasure seemed frozen in place, unable to respond. She had removed her hands covering her mouth but she was still speechless.

"I'm so sorry," he said again. "I… I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable. I really care about you, and I don't want to ruin our friendship,"

Treasure still couldn't say a word and Dexter started to panic, wondering if he had just destroyed the friendship he had worked so hard to build. His mind was racing, going over all the ways he could have handled the situation differently.

The silence between them grew more tense and Dexter couldn't take it anymore. He didn't want to want to feel any more awkward than he already had. He felt that Treasure's silence meant she didn't the same way for him.

"hum…  Well, I should go now... I have to get back to work," he said in a low tone. He turned around and left with his head down.

As he walked away, Dexter's heart felt like it was shattering into a million pieces. Her silence scared him a lot. He would've managed to handle it if Treasure didn't feel the same way for him but he wouldn't be able to take it if Treasure decided to end their friendship because of this one mistake.

Though, he wouldn't blame Treasure for that. They were supposed to be friends but he crossed the line by trying to kiss her out of the blue. He only hoped that Treasure would give him another chance. He didn't want to lose her because she was a very important person in his life.

Suddenly, Dexter felt a hand grab his wrist making him halt his steps. He turned around in surprise, and there stood Treasure, panting and out of breath from having to run to catch up with him. She looked flushed and a little disheveled, but there was something in her eyes that made Dexter's heart skip a beat.

Before he could say a word, Treasure stepped up on her toes and pressed her lips against his. It was just a simple peck on Dexter's lips but it felt like an eternity and it made his heart beat rapidly. His eyes widened in surprise and he couldn't even react.

Afterward, Treasure pulled away and dropped back down on her heels. She looked at Dexter, her eyes shining with emotion. She couldn't afford to let Dexter leave without him knowing how she felt.

She was only nervous because she had never been kissed before so seeing Dexter's lips close to hers made her a bit scared.

This was her first time.

Treasure felt herself blushing under Dexter's intense gaze. She looked down unable to meet his eyes. "I'm sure you would have done a much better job," she mumbled, feeling embarrassed and shy.

Dexter's smile grew even wider at her words. He grabbed her waist and pulled her close until there was barely any space between them. Then, he reached out and took off her glasses, freeing her face from any obstruction. He kept them in the back of his pants pockets and then he cupped her chin with both hands.

Dexter leaned in and kissed her, this time with confidence and purpose.

As Dexter's lips met Treasure's, she felt a rush of emotion sweep through her. Dexter's touch was gentle and loving as if he was afraid to hurt her, yet she knew there was passion beneath the surface.

She felt giddy as the kiss deepened, and as his tongue explored her mouth, it drove her crazy like she had reached heaven. Her mind was in a state of pure ecstasy, and she didn't want it to end. It was like being transported to another world where nothing else mattered except for this kiss. She couldn't help but lean into him, wanting to feel him even closer. There was a sense of electricity running through her body, and her heart was beating wildly in her chest.

They finally parted from their kiss, taking a moment to catch their breath. Their eyes remained locked together like they were under a spell, unable to look away. At that moment, they both knew that this was something special, something they would never forget.

This was their first kiss and it will be a memorable one.

Amid their shared moment, they both forgot about the fact that they were standing in front of the New York Police Department. A public place, where anyone passing by could see them. Random people were walking past them, but there was one woman in particular who was staring at them with a look of disbelief. It was Audrey, Dexter's coworker.

Audrey, was on her way to NYPD when she spotted Dexter from a distance. As she got closer, she noticed that he was standing with a woman, and they were kissing. It took a moment for the realization to sink in, and when it did, Audrey's heart dropped. She felt like she was in a daze, unable to comprehend what was happening.

The way Dexter was kissing Treasure was so romantic as if they were newlyweds.

Audrey's hands unconsciously balled into fists as she watched the scene unfold. Tears pricked her eyes as the truth hit her like a ton of bricks. She thought she had moved on from Dexter, but she was only lying to herself. She was still in love with him, and seeing him with someone else was like a punch to the gut.

She stood there frozen, not able to look away even though it was hurting her. Her heart was shattered and she didn't know what to do. All she could do was watch and wish she was in Treasure's place.

Her heart was beating rapidly in her chest with anger. She was so jealous and hurt to watch the man she loved kiss someone else. It was tearing her apart.
