Chapter 34 - A Bold Idea

After this reminder, Professor McGonagall turned her attention away from Ivan and began the day's lesson, which was to transform any belongings into buttons with a Transfiguration Charm.

Ivan's Transfiguration Spell had been upgraded to Level 3, so it was a piece of cake for him. With a gentle wave of his wand, the Quill on the table was transformed into a round button with beautiful circular patterns on it. Ivan had used the Transfiguration Spell to its fullest extent to score points.

Professor McGonagall nodded in satisfaction and gave Ivan a reserved point.

However, the other young wizards did not have the ability to do so. Being able to successfully cast the Transfiguration Charm was already considered quite good.

Seamus Finnigan, who was sitting a short distance in front of Ivan, blew up the ink box he was using to change his appearance.

Ivan even saw a young wizard secretly pulling off a button on his shirt in an attempt to pretend that he had conjured it. Unfortunately, Professor McGonagall was not old enough to be senile, and was able to easily tell the difference.

After witnessing Ivan's wonderful Transfiguration Charm, Professor McGonagall's standards were raised considerably, and she found the rest a little hard to swallow, except for the buttons that Hermione managed to produce from a ball of paper.

Professor McGonagall clapped her hands to attract everyone's attention.

"Everyone stop what you're doing," McGonagall said. "Do any of you know what the key to casting this spell is?"

"Professor, the Transfiguration Charm is an advanced form of magic that requires the caster to imagine in their mind what it would be like to transform.

The more similar an object is to the one that needs to be transfigured, the more likely it is that the transfiguration will succeed. In addition, transfigured creatures are much more difficult to transfigure than transfigured objects, and only a few wizards who are proficient in transfiguration spells can transfigure creatures…"

"Ivan Harls, I think I warned you…" Professor McGonagall was already in a conditioned reflex and instinctively wanted to berate Ivan, but when she turned around, she found that Ivan was holding his hands up in a formal manner and staring blankly into space.

"Grainger? How did you do that?" Professor McGonagall asked, realizing that it was Hermione Granger, who was usually so proper.

At this moment, although Miss Know-it-all was so nervous that her body was trembling, she still raised her neck and said calmly.

"Professor, am I right?"

"Of course…and it's comprehensive, but given your behaviour, I can't give you points." Professor McGonagall was so shocked that she had to stammer for a moment before Hermione could sit down.

Hermione looked slightly disappointed, but when she saw Ivan's dazed expression and raised hand, she smiled again.

Ivan slowly lowered his raised hand, his mind filled with doubt, wondering if he was in a dream or if this was a fake Granger.

Like Yvonne, Harry and Ron felt that something was very wrong with Hermione, so Ron couldn't wait to tease her after class.

"What's the matter with Hermione? I can't believe I saw her stand up in Professor McGonagall's class today without permission. My God, I think Professor McGonagall was stunned."

Ron wanted to hear Harry and Ivan's complaints, but when nothing happened, he turned around and saw Hermione behind him.

"H-Hermin…" Ron said in surprise.

"I'm just trying to get my house points back. Besides, it's not against Hogwarts rules. Professor McGonagall will understand!" Hermione said, glaring at Ron and then looking at Ivan.

"Ivan, I heard from Ron and Harry that you only met the troll yesterday because you came looking for me, so… so… thanks!"

"Nothing. Aren't we friends?" Yvonne laughed.

During the fight with the troll the previous day, Ivan had blamed Hermione for disrupting his plans, but he also knew that he had made a mistake in his choice of venue.

"Well…" Hermione nodded with a smile, then added, "I'll work hard to get my lost credits back as soon as possible!"

This gave Ivan a headache. If Hermione worked hard, then his plan to earn student points by answering questions so that he could improve his Potions would be thwarted.

"I thought you only had ten points deducted from your class by Professor Dumbledore? You must have earned them back from your previous classes."

Yvonne was puzzled. Was there a need to be so torn about ten points? It was not much compared to the number of House points Hermione had earned by answering questions in half a term.

"Sixty-seven house points, to be exact," Hermione said emphatically, and the witch stared at Ivan for a long time. She would have given him more if he hadn't been so shamelessly quick to answer.

"Then why still…?" Ivan wondered.

"I thought you said you'd make it back ten times, a hundred times over," Hermione said, smiling at Ivan.

Ivan was left speechless, wishing he could go back a few weeks and strangle his own babbling self.

Yvonne spent the rest of the journey trying to talk Hermione out of her disrespectful attitude towards her teacher, but to no avail.

Eventually, as they talked, the subject of study came up, and Yvonne was surprised to find that Hermione, with her extraordinary memory, had a better theoretical knowledge of certain subjects than she did.

This, of course, had something to do with the fact that he had spent half of his GPA on the training ground in the Room of Requirement in order to improve his combat skills.

Even so, Hermione's knowledge was formidable enough.

Harry and Ron were unable to get a word in edgewise, as they could not understand a word Hermione was saying to Ivan.

Or that they knew every word, but when put together they didn't understand…

Is this what schoolboys talk about? Harry and Ron always feel like they have a lot to spare…

[Ding, after a period of study and discussion, your proficiency in Basic Charm Theory has increased slightly.]

Ivan, who was chatting with Hermione about the principles of Charms, stopped abruptly when he heard the prompt in his head. He pulled up the system column and saw that the proficiency of Basic Charms had really improved by several points.

This caused Ivan to suddenly have a bold idea…
