shooting maria a disappointing look, that almost shredded her to pieces. She quaked, dreading the probability of losing this contract.
Her mother and sister would be highly disappointed in her.
This project was her only chance, and she wanted to be done with it as soon as possible.
She had also tried in raising money by also applying to law firm even into the role of an intern, but hasn't being lucky
She raked her brain for a suitable excuse for Mr Jason, to convince him on signing her among his finalists.
She had almost began to panic when she noticed he was scanning through her pocket for something. Maybe it was a note to show that she had being written off the deal. She pleaded to God begging for a second chance.
Oh God! She was never the type that arrived late at any event. She had always made it a point of duty to arrive thirty minutes before the stipulated time to any event she was expected to be. She had only being careless on this one. Maybe because she allowed the thought of a random guy to infiltrate her mind including invading her dreams.
Give me a second chance please. I promise it would never happen again" she pleaded as he finally took out a methylated tube from his pocket and fixed into his nostril and them made to leave. Thank God, it wasn't a termination letter.
His PA had signaled to him, through the transparent door that his attention was needed.
Then as if, touched by a sudden kind of coldness, he turned and looked at Maria with a face almost softened.
"I will give you this one chance, but if you ever try pulling off such a stunt again, the deal is off" he fired at her, before pushing the door open and walking out leaving Maria alone in the room.
Thank you so much , I promise not to dissapoint" she said to herself, pressing her two hands together to show her appreciation.
She finally stood, bracing herself and thanking God for another chance to prove her worth. She had always being a tough one, one who always took a stance and was known for executing badass projects without complaint.
But for this first time she had drooled over a man, see what she had gotten herself into. 'men are mere distractors' she said to herself.
It was time she got serious, and be the boss lady she was known for. She mumbled a short prayer of thankfulness , and straighted her dress before walking out into the open hall, to once again, take charge of her life.
Maria was finally given a role to play as a sweet princess who had disappointed her father and people, by chasing true love instead of becoming a national hero.
She was to fit into the character of a princess named Cindy, a trained warrion from birth who had come very close on achieving her father's and the kingdom's dream of defeating their only enemy. She however became distracted by the sweet and charming enemy named drake, and finally falls in love with him instead.
'Love' was the only word maria could imagine from the whole plot narration. How could she even act it? It sounded funny though. But she was willing to give it a try, atleast for the money sake. She had to.
Few minutes later, she sighted tobi as he lighted off a taxi and walked down the front door into the hall to where she was. The same spot they had sat the other day. The day, she had met Mr charming.
She envisioned the whole scenerio playing out itself again. The young fine man walking towards her table, the drink, the smile, his lips. whew!!! She wiped some sweat that had sudddenly gathered on her forehead and sipped her drink.
" I imagined, everything went well. right?" Tobi asked, interrupting her thoughts, as soon as he got to her table. She knodded, thanking Heavens for the distraction.
"I was given the script and everything went well. Next week is for shooting." maria explained, sipping her drink again, as tobi took a seat closer to hers to listen attentively.
"Have you called the car leaser?" Tobi asked suddenly, remembering that maria was yet to renew the monthly payment for her leased car. The leaser had called him earlier that day to help confirm if she had gotten his email.
"I would have to return it tomorrow tobi."
Maria replied sadly, "l have no money to renew it. So I just have to put up with public taxis from hence forth." She said, as a sudden gloominess washed down her face, leaving tobi feeling guilty.
I am sorry for asking maria. Don't worry, we would always find a way around it." He explained, wishing he could think of a better alternative.
Tobi too, was also in a bad shape, as the building of his studio had just being placed on sale. He had being given only a month to search for a new place. The owner had gotten a buyer who wanted to demolish the entire building and erect a residential place.
He too also had some debt to settle, for some new work tools he ordered some few weeks back. His studio had being burgled, after some unknown men broke into the area. They had robbed few of the buildings including his studio and had chartered away his belongings.
He had earlier gone to the bank to apply for a loan to settle his debt, as well as rent a new place. But was told to come back in few days, as his account still had some issues to rectify. He hoped, his loan request would finally be granted.
He would also definitely be relieving some of Maria's family's debt with it. He pitied them.
He had also tried to help maria secure some loan from a micro finance bank, but wasn't successful, they discovered her account still had pending loans to pay back. He sighed.
Then as if, finding a ray of hope, he suddenly asked; "what about mandy.Can't she help?"
Maria almost laughed, remembering that her sister was even in a worst position than she was.
Mandy had literally walked through all the streets of the town, in search of any medical firm to undergo her compulsory internship. The only firm that had considered her, had asked her to pay and register for an inhouse exam that when passed, would qualify her to be selected.
She had no savings, and couldn't afford the money to pay for the exam, so she had simply backed off. Now she had almost given up on getting a place for her internship and was all out searching for any available job.
They had lack, and debts at home to settle. They had loans unpaid. Thank God, one of the banks they were owning had simply taken over a particular account they had tagged as their " manna account" and had left them in
peace. Now, her mom's health had also started deteriorating again and the doctor had adviced, she should be booked for an urgent session as soon as possible, to commence her treatment.
Two days ago, she had caught her mom coughing and wiping blood that had oozed out from her nostrils, with a napkin. Her mom had immediately hid the napkin and pretended to be alright when she noticed someone coming.
Maria couldn't do or say anything, she just tiptoed quitely back to her room and slumbed on her bed weeping. She knew her mother needed treatment, and really needed it fast.
'Mariaaaaa" Tobi exclaimed, as he shook her.
" My God! What were you thinking about? I have being talking to you, thinking you were paying attention"
I am sorry tobi" she quickly appologised, and turned properly to adjust her seat and face him.
So what was it about" she asked.
I already told you not to worry, that we're going to get everything sorted out, didn't l?" Tobi asked and Maria nodded.
"so first things first, we have to rehearse how you will execute this acting project"
Jack drove into the the building that stood almost as tall as a skyscraper. The building was decorated with flowers and well trimmed grasses that covered it's entrance.
Three hefty security men saluted as he parked into the parking spot and walked into the main building. He pressed the elevator button and stepped into it.
Right on his left, was Mr Zucker's office. He was the chief administrator of the Kelison's sport hub and other of his investments. As he knocked and walked in, the elderly man who had being working on his computer, on sighting him smiled.
Hello my good friend, it's being a while. How do you do?" Mr Zucker said, offering him a hand shake.
