Emilia had dropped her phone, now feeling almost sorry for pushing the child like she did. She tried a damage control by walking towards the dual to render an apology to the child.
" I am sorry if I hurt you" she said quitely, as Maria who was busy with the child, looked up at her. She probably wanted to caution her for treating the people who loved and made her a star the way she did.
Suddenly Maria recognized her.
She was the lady she had met on her way out of Jason's office, same day he had taken away her role in the movie from her.
'You" Maria suddenly exclaimed. "l know you. Are you not the lady I mistakely bumped in, at the movie academy? The same lady that called me foolish?"
Oh, I remember.l believe you were that classless girl that almost removed my beautiful toe nails" Emilia said, feigning anoyance, suddenly forgetting the apology she had come to tender.
The person she had earlier called to pick her, alighted from a taxi and got into the sport car she had parked by the side and horned to call her attention.
Oops! Good heavens! my ride is here. And if not that I have a date tonight, I would have stayed a little longer to keep you all company" she said, blowing a kiss into the air and marching out with an air full of pride.
Maria felt irritated by the lady's nonchalant and prideful character. How could she treat a poor child this way, and still have the gut of walking out the way she did?
"You don't look alright. I think I have to get you medical help, thereafter, we can go look for your parents. At the meantime let me get you something to eat and warm clothes to change into" Maria spoke to the child, as a sign of relief pass through his face.
"Where do your parents live?" Maria asked, as the child settled down to eat the oatmeal and fresh irish patotoes he had just being served. She had also removed the wet shirt, he had wore and covered him with her thick jacket.
The child pretended not to hear, and didn't respond.
Then all of a sudden, the child stopped eating and turned to face her. He stared at her for some seconds until Maria asked him why.
"I want to look at you, so that I can recognize your face and say thank you, when I finally meet you in heaven". He said, and began spooning his meal again.
Maria tried to hide the tears that had started to gather in her eyes. The child looked so innocent and she imagined why anyone could abandon such a child
He even knew about heaven and was even hoping to see her there. She remembered her childhood, and the many stories about heaven that her mother had told her too.
Tell me about your parents" she said, still insisting on finding out.
" I do not have parents. Me and my sister have lived on the streets for so long, until she was recently knocked down by a hit and run driver and she died" he answered, grabbing and sipping the cup of hot chocolate placed in front of him.
"And she died?" Maria echoed, still finding it hard to believe. In other words, this child was homeless and without parents. She wish she could adopt him and bring him home. Atleast, he would have a real family for the first time.
What do you say, if I sign the necessary document for adoption and bring you to come live in my home?" maria asked, as the child suddenly dropped the cup of chocolate and stood up. He walked towards her and wrapped his little arms around her.
I will be very happy mam" he spoke, with little drops of tears flowing from his eyes.
Mandy was home to prepare some food for her mother, when Maria walked in, hand in hand with a little child.
Mandy wondered who the young boy was and where Maria had gotten him from? The child was covered with Maria's jacket and looked quite too young to be far away from his parents home at this time.
He is a homeless child I met at some coffee joint. I think he needs some shelter" Maria said, preventing her sister from asking.
I see" Mandy said. "And how are you sure you won't be arrested for child trafficking?" She asked maria who quickly reassured her of going for the child's documentation the following day
Lest I forget, you have a letter" Mandy said, as Maria led the child to one of the seaters in the room, to leave and set a bed for him.
'From who?" She asks, quickly taking the envelope mandy was pointing to, on the dinning table. She wondered if the Kelison diamond company' had sent her a letter so quickly
From Jason, I think" Mandy answered.
"Jason?" Maria exclaimed, wondering what the problem was.
"Good morning sir" she greeted, exposing a set of beautiful dentals.
She is a lady, in her early thirties, with a slender and tall figure. She is dressed in a corporate wear. She is meticulously typing something into the computer
Infront of her.
"Good morning" she greeted, immediately she saw her boss, walk through the door.
"Beautiful morning to you too, Lizzy" Jay answered the Secretary who quickly stood up to gather some files for his signature.
Um, I got a mail from Mr Tim this morning, containing some information about some lady's bio and resume. Did you ask for anything like that?" She questioned, while arranging the files into a neat pile.
"Yeah, I did. we' re expecting a new legal hand onboard" he quickly replied.
'Also prepare an employment letter with those details immediately" he added, before pushing open the door to his office.
The office was spaciously decorated with modern acrylic frames of brass. The walls had various drop wall planters containing sweet smelling plants and exotic flowers.a combination of white and blue paintings, with beautiful work of arts hanging hugely on it.
Far end of the room, had a colorful office storage rack containing various
awards and trophies from national an international organisations for the company's meticulous service.
There was also a huge picture of Jack and Jay accepting an award from the country's foreign minister for the company's contribution in the expansion of the country's foreign exchange.
Jay walked to the pile of files on his table.
He switched on the AC, as the office felt unusually warm, before finally taking his seat. He knew it was going to be a long day. He had some left over work from the previous day. He growled at the thought of missing his scheduled sport training at noon, since he might likely be engaged all day.
He decided to put a call across to jack to find out his schedules, and if he would be free for the weekend.
He undoubtedly needed someone to help fill in for the paper work in the office so he could find enough time to execute his plans in preparation for his team's upcoming friendly match.
" Hello son" he spoke into the receiver grinning.
"Yeah Grandpa," Jack replied.
"What on earth happened to your mobile? You kept me trying your line for hours" Jack sounded displeased.
"C'mon, you should know how bad the network can be sometime. So what's up ?" Jack asked straightly.
" Your coach called, when he couldn't
reach you. I think he wants to get you scheduled for an interview with your new club manager"
" Urggg, mehn." Jay exclaimed, not happy to be put off his work for the week, for any interview.
"But I've got too much work over here." He complained. "Unless you could fit in for me, or probably call Mr Zucker to help me get someone fixed here. Atleast for two weeks" Jay pleaded feeling almost worn out, while Jack laughed hysterically.
"See who is crying now" Jack spoke, holding back laughter.
"I don't blame you one bit Jack." Jay retorted. "Just be a good son and help me please" he made to leave, but turned when he spoke.
'"Thanks Lizzy, but I wouldn't be sure to attend the party. Hopefully, Jack or someone else would be coming over to deliver the speech. I am quite sure he will handle that." He responded, as his secretary nodded in affirmation.
Maria tore the letter, desperate to know what Mr Jason had written to her about. As she scanned through the contents, she couldn't contain her shock. He did not only write to appologise, but also to confess on how he had developed feelings for her.He professed how he had taken to her and was willing to start a relationship with her with her full permission. He also mentioned that he had chosen to bare his heart on a piece of paper because he wasn't sure he would be bold enough to express himself to her physically, especially with the way their last meeting had ended.
