Kevin was standing tall, victory shined in his eyes. The sphere around him was starting to grow bigger and move faster.
Emmett knew what Kevin was doing. This was what he did last time to beat him. But this time the wind sphere was much stronger than the previous time.
Kevin had high control over the element of wind. It was his only proficiency and he made sure to master it to the best of his ability. However, rarely anyone has seen him train, and those who have said that his training is minimal or he'd just meditate. No one knew when he had time to train, yet somehow he still managed to get stronger.
After a few seconds, the sphere around Kevin was around four meters in diameter. The winds coming off of it were powerful. Ellie and Ian were struggling to keep their footing
Emmett on the other hand was a rock. The wind was hitting him but he was unmoving. Kevin was surprised so he amped up the power. The sphere was now five meters wide and the winds started to hit harder.
Ellie was really close to being blown away but was only pushed back a few feet. Ian was slowly being inched back but still managed to stay where he was.
Kevin had trouble understanding how Emmett wasn't being blown away. He was sending the strongest winds at him and they should have been enough to send him flying into the air. But then, he saw it.
Emmett's legs were dug into the soil. Emmett noticed that Kevin found out what he was doing so he sent him a smile.
Kevin was conflicted, he felt both pride and anger fill him. He was angry that he didn't see Emmett's little trick sooner but was also happy that he found a way to counter his attack.
Seeing that his attack wasn't working, Kevin decided to try something new. He began to compress the sphere. It slowly began to shrink from being five meters wide to two meters wide. Afterward, he stretched out his hands and began to pull the edges in.
Emmett paid close attention to Kevin and braced himself for what was to come. This was new to him. Kevin had never used this move before.
Kevin continued to compress the sphere. It took him a lot of effort to keep the sphere from going out of control. His entire body was tense as he used most of his strength to compress the sphere.
Ellie and Ian were frozen. They had no idea what Kevin was planning but whatever it was it had to be big.
The ground around Kevin was swirling. Dust and dirt were flying everywhere.
The sphere of air was now the size of a basketball and Kevin was having a hard time containing it. He tried to compress it even more but seemed to be unable to.
The noose coming from the sphere sounded like someone was rapidly scratching on carbon fiber. Though small, the winds in the sphere were moving at high speed.
After a few more seconds of Kevin struggling, he seemed to gain control over the sphere. Now holding it in one hand, he turned to Emmett and said, "let's see how you do against this."
Kevin threw the sphere at Emmett like a blowing ball. As it moved towards Emmett, the sphere was ripping through the ground. It moved extremely fast to where Ian and Ellie didn't even have time to react.
BOOM!
A loud explosion came from where Emmett stood. The training grounds were covered in a thick cloud of dust. Ellie and Ian were trying not to get dust in their eyes. Kevin however, was waiting for the cloud to clear up.
It took a few seconds, but once it cleared, Kevin and the other two were shocked. What stood in front of them was a tall and thick stone wall.
It was around three meters high and half a meter thick. Looking closer at it, the wall was actually falling apart. Slowly it crumbled down until Emmett could be seen behind it.
Emmett was covered in sweat. He was breathing heavily and looked extremely tired.
"That was a new attack, but I had an idea of what it was," Emmett said to Kevin.
"I'm surprised that you managed to block the attack. You've improved more than I thought, but you still can't beat me" Kevin replied as blood started to come out of his nose.
Emmett didn't say anything back. Instead, he rushed toward Kevin to attack once more. He raised his fist, ready to punch Kevin. But, like before, his fist came to a stop before it made contact. He tried to push his fist further but was blown away again.
Emmett managed to land on his feet before turning to Kevin to say, "Huh, figures you'd do that again. However, I think I have a way to break your shield."
"Oh, is that so, then let's see you try," Kevin said cockily before putting up his wind shield once more.
Emmett threw him a smile and decided to oblige by Kevin's request. He placed his hands over his head and then dug them into the ground. The next moment, Emmett pulled them out to reveal what he was planning.
Around Emmett's hands were giant stone gauntlets. With those on, his fists were now four times the size. He moved his arms around trying to see if they were too heavy, but after a few seconds he smiled and said, "Perfect."
A second later, Emmett sped towards Kevin with his fist raised high, ready to punch him. Kevin braced for impact, not sure what was going to happen. The next moment.
BOOM!
A large dust cloud formed, covering the entire training grounds. A moment later, Emmett was seen launched from the dust. He was sent flying around thirty meters before he landed. Emmett was unconscious when he hit the ground.
In the dust cloud, Kevin was on his hands and knees, throwing up what he had for breakfast.
Ian and Ellie ran over to Emmett to see if he was fine. When they got to him, he was still unconscious. Ian decided to carry him over to Kevin to see if he was okay.
Kevin was on the ground, in the fetal position, holding his stomach. He rolled around on the ground as he groaned.
Ian placed Emmett down near Kevin and then checked on him. He asked Kevin if he was fine but he didn't respond. He just kept groaning. Since both Kevin and Emmett weren't bleeding that much, Ian and Ellie stood by to keep an eye on them.
It took a few minutes for Kevin to stop groaning but when he did he just laid down facing the sky. A couple more minutes later, Emmett finally woke up.
"What…happened?" Emmett asked, still dazed.
Kevin sat up after Emmett spoke and turned to face him. He then went on to explain what happened.
At the moment before the impact, Kevin and Emmett were staring each other down. Time seemed to move slower. Both of them watch as Emmett's fist made contact with the barrier. Kevin was still cocky but that all changed when he saw the barrier start to bend inward.
The next moment, Emmett successfully punched through Kevin's protection which caused a small explosion to occur. After breaking through. Emmett's was going to keep going until it landed on Kevin's stomach.
Kevin was surprised by this but he had a backup plan in case Emmett did break through. While no one else was looking, he made another sphere of compressed air. However, this one was around the size of a baseball.
As soon as Emmett broke through his shield, Kevin started to move his hand to hit Emmett with the sphere. However, he was not fast enough. Emmett managed to land his hit on Kevin's stomach, but right after that, Kevin landed his attack.
Once the sphere made contact with Emmett, a large burst of air sent him flying backward. The force from the burst of air and from landing hard was enough to knock Emmett out.
In the end, Kevin managed to win, even if he lost his breakfast.
With Emmett and Kevin's fight over it was now time for Ellie and Ian's match. However, the training grounds were a mess so they had to wait for Emmett to recover before he can fix it.
In the meant time Kevin was looking over the training grounds and noticed something. At certain points, there were small, almost invisible pillars on the grounds. Upon closer look, Kevin could see shoe prints on them.
"So that's how you were able to move so fast. You were propelling yourself forward with these small pillars," Kevin said with a surprised expression.
Emmett was still laying on the ground from exhaustion but was able to say, "Can't pull a fast one on you can I?"
Kevin didn't reply, instead, he decided to sit down and rest as well. Ellie and Ian also chose to sit and wait. It was going to take a few minutes for Emmett to recover enough energy to fix the training grounds so they readied themselves for what was to come.
