In the village, Ian was surrounded by people who were panicking. Many of them were running from where the explosion was. There was one man who was yelling, " Quickly! Everyone get to the testing hall!"
Ian ignored the man and kept running in the direction of the explosion. On his way there, he saw Ellie and Emmett amongst the crowd.
Ian ran up to them and asked, "What happened? Where's Kevin?"
They both looked panicked, but Ellie was still able to say, "The village is under attack. We're trying to find Kevin. As soon as he heard the explosions, he ran off."
"Do you know who is attacking us? Ian asked, now sounding a bit panicked.
Ellie seemed to get more worried as time went on but she still said, "I heard someone yell out wolves but I'm not sure.
"Understood. You two go look for Kevin. I'm going to see what's happening." Ian said this before running southeast in the direction of the explosion.
Ellie tried yelling at Ian to not go but he had already left. She wasn't going to waste time going after Ian so she told Emmett to go after him. As soon as he left, Ellie went to go look for Kevin.
It didn't take long for Ian to reach the area of the explosion, but when he got there, he was met by the sight of hundreds of wolves fighting the village guards. Blasts of different elements were flying everywhere as the wolves attacked, but the guards were able to fend off the attacks.
In total, there were twelve guards who were fending off the attacks. Most of the guard was taking on at least five wolves. This led Ian to believe that the wolves they were fighting were silver rank since most of the guards were gold rank.
There were only two guards amongst them that were sweeping through the horde. Ian knew these guards. They were his dad's most trusted guards. One was named Roy, while the other was named Klev. Both of them were crystal rank which is the tier above gold.
They both flew through the horde of wolves, easily shredding anything in their way. None of their attacks had any effect on them. They brushed off any and all attacks as if a piece of paper was just thrown at them. The wolves didn't stand a chance against them.
After a few minutes, both Roy and Klev had killed at least two hundred wolves, but there were still hundreds more. However, a moment later, a loud howl could be heard from the forest behind the army of wolves.
The howl lasted for a few seconds, but when it ended, the wolves began to retreat into the forest. As they retreated, the wolves dragged their fallen brethren. It took a few minutes for all of them to leave, but once they were gone all that was left was silence.
No one knew what was going on but the guards lined up next to each other in a formation. A few minutes went by with no activity. The guards thought it was over and they were about to go back into the village. However, a moment later another loud howl was heard coming from the forest.
All the guards were immediately alarmed. They quickly turned towards the forest to await what was next. They couldn't tell what was next but they could hear multiple heavy footsteps approaching.
From the forest, twenty large black wolves slowly made their way to the battlefield. Each one of them was around two meters tall. Their fur was jet black and their eyes were crimson red. Each step they took left a deep print and as they walked a red aura began to form around them.
Upon seeing this, Ian and Emmett decided to run towards the testing hall. Neither of them wanted to get involved in the fight since they both knew that the wolves were of a higher rank than them.
When all of the guards saw the wolves they knew that these wolves were at least gold rank. Knowing the playing field was against them, each of the gold-ranked guards could only take on one of those wolves, and even if Roy and Klev were there, no one knew how the fight would turn out.
Suddenly, another loud howl could be heard coming from the northeast side of the village. All of the guards knew that this meant trouble.
Roy and Klev looked at their current situation, then looked in the direction of the other howl. Without Captain Crest, they had to make the decisions. They both gave each other a nod before ordering all of the gold-rank guards to go check out the other side.
One of the guards spoke up quickly to say, "Sir, are you sure? Some of us can stay and help."
Upon hearing this, Roy yelled out, "That is an order. Do not worry about us. Klev and I can handle ourselves here so the rest of you, go handle the side while we wait for Captain Crest."
After that, all of the guards made their way to the northeast side of the village. Once they were all gone, Klev said, "Do you think we can handle ourselves here?"
"We have to until Captain Crest gets back. Plus we've been training with him for quite some time. I'm sure this won't be too difficult." Roy responded.
With a wary smile, Klev said, "Ya you're right. We should be able to hold off this side until the captain gets back from wherever he is."
The two of them took their stances as they readied for the worst. This was going to be a battle, unlike anything for them.
Over at the testing hall, Ian's dad was making sure that everyone was there and accounted for. But while he was going over them, his wife ran up to him and said, "Erik, the kids aren't here. Please, go find them."
Upon hearing this, he quickly rushed out of the testing hall. He stood outside looking in every direction as he thought to himself, "Where are those damn kids?" afterwards, he made his way towards the southeast side of the village.
On the way there, he came across Ian and Emmett. When he saw them he quickly ran up to them and hugged them. afterwards, he said, "Thank goodness you two are safe, but where's your sister?"
The two of them look worried. They took a moment of silence before explaining that Ellie had gone to go look for Kevin.
Ian's dad looked extremely worried but he had to make a quick decision. He turned to the boys and said, "You two go search the south side of the village. I'll search the north side."
Both Ian and Emmett agreed with their dad and immediately rushed to the south side of the village. Their dad took a moment to think, "Ellie, where could you be," before running towards the north side.
Back at the southeastern battlefield, Roy and Klev were fending off all twenty wolves. None of the wolves could land an attack but there were so many of them that it made it difficult to dodge. When a wolf jumps to attack one of them, two or three others would launch blasts of flames at them. Even so, Roy and Klev were able to swiftly dodge the attacks while counter-attacking the wolf that jumped at them.
Many of the wolves had taken a lot of damage from the punches they received, but that didn't matter. Whenever one wolf got hit, another one would step in.
However, though they were able to dodge all of the attacks and still land hits, they had no idea what was happening. Slowly the wolves were pushing Roy and Klev closer to each other. But they were already against each other's backs when they noticed this.
Once this happened, all of the wolves surrounded them and readied to launch a massive blast of fire. All twenty wolves opened their mouths and charged up their fire attack.
Roy and Klev were surprised. They didn't expect to fall into this trap, but now they had nowhere to go.
The wolves were about to launch their attack when Roy and Klev gave each other a nod. Immediately after the wolves attacked, the two of them raised a dome made of rock around themselves.
Both Roy and Klev were proficient with the earth element, so their combined strength made the dome extremely durable. However, the dome wouldn't be able to withstand the full force of twenty high-pressure blasts of fire for long.
The wolves did not let up their attack. They all kept a continuous flow of fire on the dome. They were going to end here, and if they could then they wanted to tire them out.
Both Roy and Klev knew that the dome would not last for much more so they had to come up with a plan. They had to think of a way out but they were too focused on keeping the dome up. It was only a matter of time before the flames melted through the dome.
Both of them were covered in sweat. The inside of the dome was starting to heat up. They were running out of time.
Suddenly, they both had an idea. Together, they used their power to make a deep hole below themselves. The moment they stopped holding up the dome would be the moment that the flames would break through, so they had to time it perfectly.
They both counted down and when they reached one, they jumped into the hole. As soon as they were both in the hole, they sealed it. Once they sealed the hole, the flames of the wolves broke through the dome.
When the dome fell, the wolves stopped their attack. They saw that Roy and Klev were missing. They began to look around to see where they had gone.
Meanwhile, Roy and Klev were making their way back up to the surface. When they sealed the hole they were in, they decided to spit and show up behind the wolves. It took a few seconds but when they dug themselves out of the ground, they each appeared on opposite sides of the wolves.
The wolves were surprised. They had tried to surround Roy and Klev but now they were stuck in the middle. The wolves were going to split again but Roy and Klev weren't having it.
They were done holding back so as soon as they saw the wolves split up, they both slam their fists onto the ground. A second later, a wave of spikes began to form in front of them. As the wave moved forward, the spikes grew larger and its area of effect expanded.
The wolves were now trapped. They all tried to move out of the way but many of them got impaled or hurt by a spike. Only seven wolves were able to avoid getting hit.
After a few seconds, the spikes return to the ground. Only five wolves were impaled by a spike. Their corpses lay on the ground as the other injured wolves tried to recover, but Roy and Klev weren't going to give them a chance.
Both of them summoned multiple small spikes before launching them at the remaining wolves. Each spike moved at the speed of sound. Only the wolves who weren't injured were able to dodge the attack. All the others were struck by many spikes, killing them in the process. By the end of the attack, all of the corpses looked like pincushions.
The last remaining wolves were now at a disadvantage. With only seven of them left, they would not be able to defeat Roy and Klev. The remaining wolves readied themselves to attack once more, but a moment later, another loud howl was heard from the forest.
All of the wolves turn in the direction of the howl before returning their gaze to Roy and Klev. They growled at them in anger but they did not attack. Instead, each one of them grabbed a corpse and dragged it into the forest.
Roy and Klev wanted to go after them but they decided to stay and wait for what came next. After a bit of time, they expected to hear another howl come from the forest, but nothing was heard. As time went on, they became more worried. They could hear the fight from the northeast and were debating on whether to go or not.
But as soon as they were about to move, they saw it. From the forest, came another wolf. However, this one walked alone.
Upon seeing it, both Roy and Klev knew that this was the leader of the wolves. It looked completely different from the other wolves. This one was smaller than the gold-rank black wolves. Its fur was silver like the silver-ranked wolves but it looked more metallic. However, the thing that separated it from the rest was that this wolf had three tails. One was green, the other white and the last one was light blue.
Roy and Klev could tell that this wolf was at least crystal rank. As it walked it gave off a powerful aura. They have only felt this type of power once before and that was from Captain Crest. They knew that what stood before them was far stronger than either of them and that worried them greatly.
Whatever the case was, all they could do was prepare for the worst. They had confidence in the fact that there were two of them, but something kept poking them in the back of their heads to run. They were on edge. All they could hope for was for the captain to arrive on time to help them.
