With in a week Vari and Sarvin flew to my parents home after alot of discussions and probing on calls.lots of disagreements from my mother as well as other family members were tackled by Sarvin he had a firm stand on the ground that if two person are happy to have each other's company moreover compatible with each other then other ,not so very important things should be stacked away .I was called after most of the chaos was settled by Vari.It was from my father 'hello, Soma how are beta ?everything good!' he started with usual words 'I want to ask you certain things regarding your marriage ' as he spoke I was held captive by deranged thoughts ,still i kept my hope and listened to every word being spoken 'Do you have anything to be told related to it .' I exhaled deeply and told him about Ken 'You should have told this to me first ,why do you need Vari to bring these stuff to me beta , well now since you have someone in mind then we would like to meet him and know him , bring him home .Vari has told me particulars about him but we want to meet him and his family in person .'Papa finished and now it was my chance to respond 'okay papa ,we will be there .' not a word more could come into my mind.
We had brief palaver on how we were going to present our side .After few days i and Ken landed at my parents house ,this was definitely going to be a plight .we were welcomed by my parents , we went in my home the place which i had know for a long time but still it remaind unfamilar .After our house was built to it's present grandeur i have always been out due to studies and certain other problems ,yes my job too . The living room still held the touch of arrangement which i had given it last time i was home some 4 or 5 years ago . we seated their next to papa and mama ,Vari brought sweets and 'chai' ,she was gnarly in that art . I was completely clueless it seemed as cold as outdoors on cold windy January evenings, the conversation between my father and Ken started .It was an easy going conversation Sarvin was there to aid Ken and Papa in order to be better off together . They weren't happy for sure but nothing could be done now it was more like I had made the mistake and the only way to correct it was to get me married to a good man be it Ken or someone else if in case he din't turn out to be a suitable partner according to my family . Vari wayed me to come in from the corner of curtains hanging in the room partitioning dinning hall and living room ,I went in as soon as I set past the curtains into the dining hall i was caught up by my wrist ,i could feel the fiery with which i was held ,it was my mother's hand that dragged me to her bedroom she locked the door and questioned me with fury gleaming in her old eyes surround by wrinkles that covered her beautifully designed face in her oldage 'you haven't done anthing right?' she stared at me with her questioning look . I understood what she meant which converted my fear to fury ,it made me anxiously crazy din't she knew her children ,din't she trusted her upbringing ,din't she knew what kind of person i was? these words where upto my throat yet i gulped down the poison before it over took my tongue i replied 'No, mummy i'm as i was, nothing happened ' this definitely rendered me melancholy though I gathered myself together to ask 'what do you think about him mummy ?'
'Ken, what kind of name is that ,he is not from our community, don't follow our relgion ,don't belong to our nation ,doesn't even know our language. what do you think how are you going to manage with him and his family ? what is so nice in him? ' she fired her questions with an annoyed undertone .'he is a good man mummy ,he cares for his family ,he earns well ,is a respected person in his society and
....' 'all this looks good in movies not in real life you should know the difference between reel and real things, do you think this society will accept it ?' She nicked her words before i was able to complete what I had to say , I went silent cause i knew how my mother was if she had decided something you can't change it until she calms down and things are in right place . My father couldn't do it in these long year so who was I in front of him . I just gave my ears to her words which continued till she was interrupted by knocking on the door.'Mummy , papa is calling you' Vari spoke behind the closed door .Mummy went to Papa Ken was upstairs with Sarvin ,he went to get cleaned up and get some rest .I was down stairs in the room which was ones me and my sisters room . She fathomed what i had gone through ,this was what i hated the most in whole world ,to be scolded for something that i haven't done or for doing something that wasn't wrong morally or in any way nevertheless i heard it all without bursting into anger , it drained my energy . Vari consoled me and told that everything went well between Papa and Ken ,though he din't like what we did but still he considered our opinion .we had our lunch ,then went to take some rest , I laid on my bed without any foresight ,it seemed all so foggy ahead that it wasn't easy to make out what was about to happen . I fell asleep ,then woke up in evening about tea time ,everyone was in the balcony including Ken they were talking to him about his ways of living ,our uncle was also there ,Ken was undergoing family check . I decided to keep out of it as it was them talking and I din't wanted any further long lectures. we stayed for 2 weeks ,My parents meet Ken's parents on vedio call as well as his other family members . We went back after that ,it was a month long procedure my father and uncle visited Ken's house ,Ken's parents house all aspects about him where turned up nothing was left untured .
finally the conclusion was that we could be married .Our parents meet each other few more times to decide wedding date, venue and other things .I wanted a simple wedding with only our close relatives but my family had different set of thoughts, when i shared my views with them our uncle said ' You chose the man yourself without our consent now atleast wedding proceeding be according to us , we need to get things back in place for ourselves in our society.' So i din't even spil a word after that, i was glad that we were getting married .Later when all this clamour was settled, my family returned home to do wedding arrangements and Ken's family got busy with their things ,since the wedding was within 2 months , Ken came by to spend sometime one evening onset of august faze .we were in my backward among ripening blueberry shrubs and pinks being in bloom he asked looking at me with bewitching eyes of his 'would you have married me if your parents denied for our relationship ?' .I took a deep breath as the soft redolence of scented garden filled my lungs 'No, I would never do that' i answered 'then would you have married anyone your father would have asked you too?' I remained aphonic on this question of his , he turned to me passed a gentle smile 'I appreciate that .' He left after sometime, I din't answer him as i din't wanted to tell him that he had became implict to my life if it wouldn't have been him it wouldn't have been nobody unless my family had some solid grounds on which they can ask me to give him up .
