Chapter 67 - Unexpected Reunion

The battle raged on, from all sides, the flood of men started forming a line of shields and swords, pushing back the defenders, starting to slowly advance and push them back to other platforms. Cadin took a moment to look around, behind the shield line and staying with the healers along with Sentis, already with their satchels and short swords.

As the battle continued on, Foren jumped down, followed by his men, near to the soldiers they began joining in on the assault, reinforcing Cadin's men or assaulting wooden homes. The homes were slowly getting seized by the soldiers with fighting still going on inside them. Foren's men helped to assault the position armed with short swords, in seconds the battle in the few homes stopped with Foren's fighters exiting with blood dripping blades.

Cadin's men though returned out severely injured, with a few dying inside as the close quarter attacks ended. More homes began getting breached as the line of shields advanced further. More and more soldiers continued flooding through the area, forming layers of men against the remaining defenders, pushed to different platforms, hastily forming defenses as they began compressing with one another, firing arrows across the bridge to the lines of shields assaulting them.

Cadin walked behind them, seeing the corpses of his men and the bloodbath inside each home, with the bodies of defenders were stains of blood painting the walls and floor of the homes. Cadin's soldiers were riddled with slash marks on their leather armor and stab wounds in other sections of their body, their swords only having a few stains of blood. Foren's men emerged from the recently taken homes, showing their bloody swords to other soldiers, quickly celebrating before returning back.

Upon seeing this, Cadin thought to himself. "Interesting. This could perhaps be another form of warfare to learn. For now though I need to force them to surrender.' Quickly, Cadin ran to one of the bridges with only a few soldiers defending it, Cadin moved aside his men. With his shield overhead, he charged forward, assaulting the bridge as defenders moved back, their swords pointed forward. Cadin rammed through the small line slashing and kicking the soldiers off the bridge, clearing a path for his men behind him.

"Soldiers! Advance forward!" He yelled at his men from behind, the line of shields quickly unruffled as men ran as fast as they could on the short bridge, reaching the other side as another of Cadin's formations were pushing back the enemy.

Before he could leave, an arrow slammed into his back, quickly followed by someone ramming into his back, sending him crashing into the ground. Turning his head, a fighter was already on top of him, already driving a dagger into his chest. The pain struck Cadin, but it felt manageable to him. In a second, he kicked the fighter off, knocking him on his back. But the pain on his back lingered.

Cadin got back on his feet, feeling the wound on his chest quickly heal back up.

'Thank the heavens, seems it's only the arrows that can harm me.' He looked back at the fighter, now trying to get up. His hood fell off his head, revealing a face that Cadin could remember from long before. From a camp Cadin had raided before he became a leader.

'That kid!?' Shocked, Cadin looked at the boy as he stood back up. The boy he had used before to kill his fellow colleagues, the one he had given the blade to.

"Kill those in front of you, those were your words….Remember that!?" The kid shouted at Cadin, his voice filled with deep anger as he bared his teeth towards him, gripping his blood coated dagger tightly.

'Should have killed him before.' The boy charged at Cadin, dodging below his sword, the boy drove his dagger into Cadin's waist, forcing him backwards.

He continued delivering strikes as Cadin tried desperately to block them, sustaining a few injuries as the boy continued his rapid assault, Cadin began moving back on the bridge, nearly reaching the other end.

Before he could jump onto the platform, the boy drove his dagger into Cadin's neck, burying it deep. In a moment, he threw Cadin back onto the bridge, quickly jumping on the platform as his men were focused on fighting the enemy in front of them.

"Rot in death, swine!" With his dagger, the boy slashed at the ropes carrying the bridge, Cadin immediately felt weightless as his body was sent falling down.

He managed to grab one of the planks. Holding onto it with one hand with his sword and shield falling to earth below him. He looked back at the boy, leaning his head down to see him.

The two locked eyes for a moment, before the boy took out a short bow, preparing another arrow.

In a few seconds, he let it loose. The arrow slammed into the rope holding the bridge on the other side. Immediately Cadin's grip loosened for a second before regaining his hold again.

"Fall already!" The boy yelled out in anger, a moment before the string was loosened a soldier attacked the boy from behind, slashing at his soldier, grabbing his attention. The arrow continued flying above, before finally landing on the last rope holding the dangling bridge.

Cadin felt his body become weightless one last time, the grip on the board loosened, falling away from him. He fell quickly back to the ground, screaming for a split second before crashing into the ground hard, the bridge falling above him.

A minute passed, Cadin stood back up with struggle, pushing off the section of the bridge laying on top of him. Around him were the bodies of defenders and his own men, resting in a puddle of their blood on the dirt path. He looked up, a part of his face was covered in blood as a large gash was continuing to heal. He could feel a blunt pain across his entire body, wounds were scattered around his abdomen, all bleeding out .

'Can't believe I survived that, even falling doesn't seem to kill me.' He chuckled to himself, spitting out blood before making his way back to one of the stairwells. He could hear the shouts and banging of metal from above, loud, rapid and sporadic on different platforms.
