Chapter 68 - Bite and Hold

Back at the very top, the fight slowed down, the remaining defenders huddled with each other on a few platforms as Cadin's men continued pushing them.

'Think that's enough shock & awe. And more people to subjugate.'

Cadin walked forward. Clearing his voice he began to shout, "Soldiers, stop advancing! Escort those who surrender and bring them to me here, strip them of their weapons. The battle is over!"

The soldiers stopped advancing, holding their position, the remaining defenders continued moving until they were at the ledge of their platforms, shaking, stuck in place with their weapons aimed forward. Wooden structures that still stood were left with corpses and puddles of blood. Shouts and screams of jubilation began a few seconds after Cadin spoke.

As he walked around the platform, from the side and away from his view, a scream roared out in the brief silence. The boy charged at Cadin, in a moment he managed to block the dagger, the boy's face still filled with deep hatred.

He jumped back, moving around Cadin carrying two blades, his face was dirtier, stained with blood and bits of wood and soil.

"You killed my family, my friends and so much more. Now, you continue to do exactly the same. People like you deserve a slow death, and I shall deliver that myself." He stopped moving, in a few seconds he screamed and charged at Cadin at quick speed. Cadin raised his shield up, in a moment he felt the boy's weight crash into the shield, pushing him back.

The boy began striking Cadin from different directions, slashing and stabbing into Cadin's body as he tried desperately to parry and block the attacks with his shield and sword but to little avail.

'This sword and shield can't block all of this, I need something smaller.' Waiting for another strike, Cadin took the opportunity, unexpectedly slamming the shield forward into the boy, running out his cornered position he ran to the bodies of the dead on the platform.

His hand grabbed a bloody short sword from a body, turning around he was immediately faced with the boy rushing towards him, he deflected the daggers, moving away from the boy while he regained his footing and faced him again. Both stood on top of piles of bodies, their boots stepping on bodies and their soles getting soaked in red.

"How did you survive that fall? Luck? Whatever it is, you will pay for every friend you killed." Cadin stayed silent, readying his stance and hastily grabbing a second blade. Both glared at each other's eyes, one of concentration and one of resentment.

The fight quickly commenced, the boy ran forward, and a barrage of strikes began with Cadin managing to parry most of the hits, the two moved around the platform as the fight raged on, metal clanged loudly in the air with each strike only making it louder and louder.

"My lord!" A voice yelled out from the distance, Cadin turned his eyes behind the fighter, Joken stood on the other platform with a group of other soldiers, readying their bows towards the boy.

"Such a coward, needing allies to aid you." Immediately, the vision in Cadin's right eye disappeared, a sudden pain erupted, disorienting Cadin as he grabbed his eye with both hands, clutching it in pain.

'That spineless rat. This better heal as well.' Blood gushed out of his injured eye socket, his hands getting filled with crimson red fluid. He looked forward again, the boy ran to one of the shields of the soldiers grabbing it. Immediately arrows flew onto the platform, landing on different areas but most hitting the boy as he stayed behind the shield and behind the buildings for cover.

In a few moments, the pain started to dull, and Cadin released the grip on his eyes, grabbing the short swords and walking towards Cadin as arrows continued raining down on their location. Some soldiers ran down the stairwell on their platforms, trying to reach Cadin any way they could.

As he walked forward, Foren jumped down from above, joined by two other soldiers, running at the boy with swords in hand.

The boy dropped the shield, immediately grabbing two blades and fighting back against the three. Cadin ran to join them, but as he neared, the boy drove a dagger into one of the soldier's necks and ran towards the tree, climbing up into the leaves above with arrows still beamed on his location.

'Should have killed that kid back in the camp.' The blood stopped pouring out, only leaving a large spot of red on a part of his face.

"Cadin, are you alright." Foren ran to Cadin, looking at his faced, horrified by what he was witnessing.

In a minute, Sentis and Joken along with a few healers ran up the stairs, realizing the boy had left.

The group rushed to Cadin, looking at his eye. At this point the pain was gone and he couldn't feel the blood flowing down anymore.

"My lord, your eye-"

"Do not worry, it is fine. Provide aid to any injured we have." Cadin cut Sentis off before he could finish.

'Seems the healing also applies to the eye, some wrapping though in case,'

"Hand me some wrapping, i can handle this, do not worry." Sentis hastily pulled out a small roll of canvas wrapping.

Cadin took it and began wrapping it around his head, Sentis provided help in wrapping it around his head.

After a minute, a part of Cadin's head was covered in white, stained with blood underneath.

Cadin looked around, a strong scent of blood lingered with the atmosphere almost silent with only the faint noises of chatter from the other platforms.

"My lord, do we need to retreat?" Joken asked.

"No, we will not retreat. Especially after a victory this great!" He exclaimed, frightening the group.

"Cadin, we will perform a quick recon on two more nearby camps, both are just up ahead. Rest your men for now, we will guide you once we return. Foren said, running back to one of his dying soldiers, accompanied by a pair of healers who tried to seal the wound.

In a few minutes, he stood back up, bearing a defeated face before speaking quickly to the other soldier and heading back up.

The other soldier carried the body away with a few healers, descending down.
