Chapter 58 - More Soldiers

Cadin took off the white cloak, raising it in front of him. "Camouflage hm? Good for the forest then." He threw it back on his back.

'Forest.' In seconds, the color of the cloak began changing, turning into a mix of brown and green.

"Interesting."

'I need to train more soldiers for the army. Though it looks like there are not many people to recruit here. Just need some soldiers for the cavalry and those forest prisoners to fill our army ranks. Or maybe, requesting from the camp leaders..' Cadin exited his home, immediately the heat and sound of chatter hit him outside as workers moved around carrying fish and other tools. As he looked around, his eyes locked at the forest on the other side of the river. Seemingly devoid of human life, only populated by animals.

Looking at his own people he could see their faces, many from different camps, conquered or ones destroyed by the attack long ago.

'That and perhaps a settlement group for the forest when all of this is over.' Cadin returned inside, quickly grabbing a paper he began scribbling down orders to give.

A few minutes passed, while Cadin wrote, the door opened.

Hoflin along with Sentis entered inside, holding a few pieces of paper in their hands, placing it down onto the table and turning to their leader.

"Apologies my lord, we just needed to send a few reports here regarding a few small expansions we made for resources and for the injuries in the outer camp. Sentis here was shocked by the amount." Cadin turned around to greet them, before saying anything he placed a paper in Hoflin's empty hand.

"This is an order on creating a small settlement unit, I need you to start forming one in case we begin to expand somewhere farther than here." Hotlin replied, Cadin turned to Sentis.

"Sentis, how are the injuries?"

"We had around fifteen injured heavily, about twenty that were only grazed or suffered a few wounds. Unfortunately seven died while we tried to treat them." He replied, seemingly emotionless in his tone.

"Very well. Bury the dead. We need to make sure to save as many as possible. Actually." An idea perked up in Cadin's head,

"Sentis, perhaps you may teach more people or the healers to become more specialized, in that we may have healers on site. Can you do that?"

Sentis was taken aback by the sudden request, quickly looking back at Cadin.

"I can do that my lord, all I require are a few willing soldiers or people who wish to become the healers. Do you wish for more healers in camp? We do need more if these casualties are the new normal."

"We need healers in the camp and even at the front, ideally about five." Sentis nodded his head in acknowledgement, with his hand on his chin.

"That I may do my lord."

"Very well, these are the new orders. I will meet with some of the camp leaders to discuss other matters. Finish these orders as soon as possible." After speaking, Cadin walked out, making his way past his people and patrolling soldiers until he got to the entrance gate.

A small group of cavalrymen awaited him, already riding their steeds with a spare standing next to them. Each bear wounds from the previous battle with wrapped leaves or canvas on parts of their body. Stoic and prepared for the next command.

He quickly got onto the free horse, grabbing onto the horse's lead with a sense of urgency in him, wishing to complete what he needed to as fast as possible.

In haste, he tugged on the lead, directing his horse towards the path and rushing down to the next camp, his escort moving behind him, their weapons sheathed and their hands free. A sense of peace loomed over their minds and on Cadin's as they breezed through the forest, back in their home, away from threats and fear of the larger forest.

They quickly arrived. An odd feeling rose in Cadin's mind and body upon dismounting his steed. A sense of dread in the pit of his stomach and thoughts of fighting and war flooded his head, causing him to slap his head, regaining focus on why he was there.

The door was protected by four soldiers, all holding spears and donning metal armor, wearing an expressionless gaze, even while Cadin approached the entrance.

"Ah, Cadin. Our leader awaits you inside." He spoke in a low gruff tone, not bearing any emotion as well in his voice.

Cadin along with his escorts entered inside while the soldiers pushed open the door for them.

The feeling began growing inside Cadin's body as he walked further inside. The buildings were now larger with more people working inside them, the walls were taller with soldiers already patrolling on platforms connected to it. Above all of them, a single lone building stood atop all of them. The place was filled with the sound of hammering and walking as people walked around carrying weapons to armor. Their faces were also expressionless, not changing or switching, not even glancing at Cadin but moving on.

'My old leader's tent.' Cadin looked at the two floor building in front of him, where he had once taken orders from. Seeing it changed drastically from before.

He took a deep breath, still enduring the odd feeling of the camp.

Near the entrance, there were four more guards, turning their heads to Cadin.

"Cadin, are you here to speak with the leader?" His voice was younger, more lively than the older soldier he spoke to earlier. Cadin nodded his head.

"Very well, I shall speak with him regarding your presence. You may wait for him here." He opened the door, slipping into the building through the ajar door, closing it immediately after.

Cadin looked around again, seeing the camp and its changes. A small feeling of nostalgia hit Cadin, looking at each building and remembering what they once were. Now larger and bigger.

The boy came back out after a minute, "He will meet you inside. Follow me. The door opened wide to the inside.

Cadin, along with his own escort stepped in the large hallway, escorted by a pair of soldiers behind them.
