Chapter 2 - Joni's visit

sitting on the bathroom floor, Araceli heard the door bell, she quickly stood up, washed off tear stains from her face and made her way to the door "hello Joni"Araceli greeted her neighbor Joni Smith who was carrying a basket of fruits "it's nice to see you Ara I was at Diane's so I decided to stop by and see how Jay's fairing before going home" Mrs Smith said fumbling with the basket, "come on in dear, are these for him?" Araceli asked stepping away from the door to grant her access,Joni walked in handing the basket to Araceli with a nod "please sit while I make you a cup of coffee, Jason's asleep right now but I could send your regards to him once he wakes..." "hi Mrs Smith" Jason walked in with a bright smile on his face something that has been missing for days since he found out he was sick, he walked up to Joni and hugged her, Joni was a mentor to Jason and also the mother of his best friend "what happened to you champ? you aren't one to lock himself up and lay on the bed all day just because he's sick,I didn't even see you at Tyler's party, how do you think he felt not having his best friend with him on his 18th"Joni complained with a frown on her face while patting Jason's back "I'd rather be locked in hear than be reminded of all the things I'm gonna miss when am gone"Jason laughed like he was cracking a joke but same couldn't be said for Araceli and Joni, as there was a numbing silence and the two women looked like they had been slapped , Joni then cleared her throat and turned to Araceli "Ara i will really love that cup of coffee please" and knowing the other woman was trying to get her to excuse them "sure" she said heading to the kitchen.

Joni Smith was a great painter, she had an art gallery where she displayed her work . Jason was only twelve years old when he started showing interest in what she did, he once painted a picture Which he called the setting sun but it was a blur and it didn't make much sense to others except Joni who said the boy had great potentials and all he needed was a little guidance and since then she had been tutoring him and they had gotten so close to each other to an extent that Jason found her as a more reliable confidant than his mom, not that he wasn't close to his mom but he loved her in a way that he that he didn't want her seeing his vulnerable side or getting her all worked up because of him hence his close relationship with Joni .
