Chapter 18 - A new found love

She took her piano with her and started playing John Legend's 'All of me' . Whenever she starts playing the piano, she's always lost in her own serene world. She started singing along, at the top of her lungs.

She heard a tap on her shoulders and when she looked up and saw it was her dad, she smiled.

"Hey dad. How was work today? " She said, hugging him.

"Hey Dee. Work was fine. How are you doing and how was school today? "

Daisy just smiled. "I'm good. Very good "

Her father studied her face for a few moments before taking his bag and turning "Let me relax and then you'll tell me all that happened at school today?and excellent play. That was beautiful " He said and went to the bedroom.

Daisy kept the piano back at the far end of the living room. She went out to the garden. The housekeeper, Lola Greene was still outside. The woman, who was in her early fifties smiled when Daisy approached her.

"Daisy hun. How are you doing today? Your mum told me you were down? "

"I'm better now Mrs Greene and I'm not down any longer. "

Daisy stayed and chatted with the woman for a little longer and then went back to her room.

"God!!! "

Daisy groaned in frustration. On a normal day, she would have been with Debbie. While she was playing the keyboard, Debbie was singing and while she was singing, Debbie was playing. Her brother Danny, was probably at his football lessons or with one of his girlfriends -he has so many. Her little sister, Allie was probably at her ballet lessons or at her best friend Shelby's place. The only person closest to her, apart from her family and Debbie was Star, a girl she met online and liked instantly. When she travelled to New York with her family two years ago, she found out that the girl lives very close to her grandma Lisa. The two of them became very close friends. The only thing affecting their relationship was distance. They don't see each other till Christmas when Daisy travels with her family to New York.

She glanced at her phone only to find two missed calls from Star. She called her back instantly.

"hey Starfish "

"Hi Daisy. I called you about 17 times yesterday and 23 times today. What the hell's going on? "

Daisy chuckled. 17 and 23 times indeed.

"Well, I'm sorry. I just lost my best friend to a group of cheerleaders. I feel so sad. "

"Aww... Baby girl. I feel so sorry for you too. But come to think of it, I thought i was your only friend. " She teased Daisy.

"Be serious girl. I didn't call you to mock me. I called you to get my mind off Debbie. "

"Alright. Let me start by asking. Is your brother single yet? I'd like to be his girlfriend. He's a very cute guy though"

"Damn it Star!! You're even worse than my mum. "

Star laughed heartily.

Just then, She heard my parents voices.

"I gotta go, Star. I'll call you later"

"Alright Dee. Take care"

She went out and walked across the hall and heard her parents arguing but as she strained her ears to get an earful, she noticed they weren't arguing but we're actually talking.

"Oh really? I'm gonna remind you that afternoon sex is better " her mum said.

"No babe, morning sex in the Bath tub or evening sex against the kitchen counter when the kids are out with friends is better. Even the sex against Daisy's piano seems great though. You know that moment when you raise your... "

"Oh my God!! Dad!! Mum!! Can you just take this conversation to your bedroom? And my piano?? Oh really, my piano?? Of all things??!!"

Her parents laughed. Obviously they couldn't get enough of each other.

"Do you have any plans for Valentine? " her dad asked her.

"No, I'd stay home with Allie"

"Allie is staying with your aunt Julia. Danny is - well, you know Danny. He always has places to go. Your mum and I are going to the usual Sweet Spot restaurant, which means you'll be left alone... "

"That's to remind you..." Danny said, walking into his room " that you're boring "

The whole family burst into an uncontrollable fit of laughter, except Daisy obviously.

She felt left out. She turned and went to her room. She laid down to rest and eventually slept off without having dinner.

"Dee, wake up. It's morning already "

Daisy rolled to the other side on her bed and groaned when her mum opened the door.

"Good morning mum"

"Morning, Dee. It's time for school. Go freshen up. I've made breakfast. "

"Okay, mum. I'll be back late from school today because... "

Just then my dad came in, a menacing look on his face.

"I need to put up some of my paintings in the art gallery for display. "

Her dad had never been in support of her passion for art. He was disappointed and even embarrassed that his daughter had chosen a low-paying career.

"Daisy, you can't and you won't. "

"Dad. I can and I will. I'm sorry but I can't listen to you in this case. " She turned and went to the bathroom.

She put on her clothes and walked out to the dining room. She saw the mouthwatering dish on the table and wanted to put away prise and eat but at the last minute, she turned and left for school without even waiting for her mum to drive her to school.

As usual, no one talked to her. Everyone had something to discuss with their friends. Danny was with his girlfriend Alyssa. Others were in groups of four and five discussing and chattering excitedly.

She took delight in trying to finish the book she was reading.

She looked towards the avocado tree and saw someone sitting on a bench deeply engrossed in a book too. She wondered why the person wasn't with the other students.

"Hi" She approached the girl.

"Hello" The person replied and looked up and behold, it wasn't a girl but a boy with mesmerizing eyes and long lashes. He smiled warmly and adjusted a little for her to sit with him.

She hesitated for a moment, unsure of herself but later sat down and smiled back.

"I'm Daisy Winters " She said to him.

"I'm Jacob Harrison, but just call me Jake. So what is a beautiful girl like you doing, getting stuck with me. "

"What do you mean? I was lonely and found you reading which is one of my passions and so I decided to come join you. What are you reading by the way? "

" 'They both die at the end ' by Adam Silvera " Jake replied.

"Oh" She held up her own book " 'Five feet apart' by I don't know who. " She laughed.

"The front and back cover is torn so I really can't figure out who wrote it. "

They both chuckled.

"You want to be a doctor? Because that's kind of like a medical story. I've read it once"

"No. Definitely not. I want to be an artist " Daisy's face fell slowly as she remembered the conversation she had with her dad earlier that day.

"Is everything okay, Daisy? "

"My parents are against me being an artist. " She said as tears almost rushed to her face. Jake put his book down and held her hands tenderly.

"It's okay, it's alright. I wasn't supposed to make you cry. "

Daisy nodded slowly and then pulled her hands away from his, unused to such warm gestures. She stood up timidly.

"I should probably get back to class "

"Yeah me too. Can I see you after class? " he asked and she nodded in agreement.

He winked at her and they both parted ways.

When she got back to her class, she couldn't even concentrate on the topic that was being taught. Even if she listened, she was sure she won't understand anything, as long as its calculus. She wonders why the topic is being used to torment students.

After the bell rang for the next period, she went outside a bit to catch her breath and she ran into her brother.

"Hey sis. Where have you been? I've been searching for you for so long now. "

She smiled and hit him with her elbows.

"Really?! Searching for me?? Or you've been betraying your girlfriend by hanging out with girls you don't even know their names. "

He feigned hurt.

"Hey. Come on Dee. Grow up. What do I need the names for? Also ,Alyssa isn't in the same school with us so it's not called betrayal. And besides I'm not the one hanging out with girls. They're the cheap sluts that are hanging out with me. I mean who wouldn't want to hang out with a rich, sexy guy like me. " he chuckled.

Daisy gaped at her twin brother, with open mouth.

"Danny, you don't mean that. How would you feel if some guy referred to me as a cheap slut? "

"You?? Listen to me Daisy. In the first place, how do you even expect a guy to look at you, not to even talk of talking to you and all I got you a cheap slut. I believe it's better for you to join the convent than die an old maid. No offense please " he looked sorry.

"Offense taken .What's that supposed to mean?" She frowned.

"Jeez. Calm down. I didn't mean it that way. Just that... You need to get a life" he said and rushed out leaving her in a dilemma.

She remembered his statement about no guy looking at her and then tried to connect it with Jake. She was worried about the way butterflies seemed to flutter in her belly at just the mere thought of him.

She felt a soft warm hand on her back....
