She got up and paced around the room, ending up after several circuits, back to the window, looking at the stars. The night was bright and blissful, the type of night she liked.
Laura took an intelligent amateur's interest in astronomy and would spare any thing she had just to entertain dorian with a philosophical reflection on the ups and downs of the state of the world, culled from a book she had read by the English man sir James hopwood jeans.
She was with dorian tonight, with the intention of a sleepover. Dorian was happy to receive her best friend who wouldn't stop talking about stars and whatsoever.
"Jean;" Laura started, holding dorian's warm hands in hers while giving her a small smile filled with deep affection and warmth." Estimates that, based on what can be seen of the universe from the great telescope at Mount Wilson, there are so many stars out there that if they were to be grains of sand and were spread over the united States, they would create a layer of hundreds of yards depth" Laura said and giggled like a kid who'd just seen her crush.
Hundreds of yards?!
Dorian thought sheepishly and wondered who in the name of God took the precious time to calculate and analyze the God_forsaken shit she wasn't interested in listening to anytime soon. But Laura wasn't done.
"Now then, our own Earth is one millionth of a part of one of those grains of sand. one millionth, dorian!" She squeaked " do you understand? One millionth of just one of the grains of sand that are hundreds of yards deep over united states_ which would be just deep if it were in france. so you see, nothing we do really matters much, does it, in that context? Afterall, aren't we all basically ridiculous?"
Rolling her eyes tiredly, dorain managed to say " in short?" Her eyes half closed as if tired of her best friend's ranting.
"In short?" Laura repeated bewildered, taking a sip of her Dr pepper. Her friend wasn't really in need of her rants!
"In short, we live in a small world so we need to live our lives to the very bream. Afterall, we don't have long lifespans"
Dorian bursted into a fit of laughter without restraints, placing a hand on her chest while shooting vigrously. She was seriously tired of her friend's unnecessary evergy to make a notifying motivation.
Laura wondered why her friend was laughing so hard. She pouted and and asked "what's funny?"
Dorian stopped laughing abd poked Laura's pouting lips with a finger "you were trying to motivate me, weren't you?"
"Yes, I was " Laura admitted, rolling her eyes in fake anger.
"You didn't have to start from the stars, Yunno" she said and subdued herself into a chortle.
" I was only trying to make my motivation more different today. Stop laughing!" Hissing abd rolling her eyes again, she joined dorian in laughing "I'm so pathetic" she blurted, thinking of how silly she was to make a motivation out of stars.
"It's ok. you were perfect though"
there was a perfect silence between them as the the duo were lost in thought for some minutes.
"I wonder where my dad is right now, probably dead" dorian suddenly said, breaking the silence between them. Her hazel eyes were filled with fresh pain and dullness.
Laura signed and bit on her lower lip. she didn't like seeing a friend like this. She wished n could be the happiest person on Earth. "you see ,things are bound to happen and humans tend to face challenges. you can't have it all in life but I'm sure you'll be fine"
Dorian nodded. Her friend was right. Life isn't a bed full of roses, on the contrary rather. But wasn't hers too much to bear? losing a mother at a very young age and having a father she could not boast of, who had never loved her, was that a challenge or a lifetime revenging scar she'd she always need to remember?
Shoving the thoughts aside, dorian said "I'm just wondering if I would ever see the chance to see him again. I don't even remember his face ,do I?" She asked herself more than she was asking Laura.
"You still want to see him again?" Laura pressing her lips together in curiosity. Her dad was the person dorian hated to see the most. There was no way she'd be looking forward to see him with a positive mindset.
Dorian nodded her head in Affirmative. she didn't want to see him dead yet, she wanted to see him again to tell him how he ruined her and how much she missed her mother and how much she needed to get evidence and get arrested and rot in jail.
The pain he caused her was too much for her to bear. She would have been long dead if she hadn't been saved by Laura's parents that night. She wondered what would have happened to her, the pain, hunger, and thirst that would have ravished her before she died a painful death.
Shaking her head dramatically, Dorian recalled how she had been saved.
Laura's parents were arriving from a party that night, taking their normal route when they were not with their car and was suddenly stopped when they heard cries from the warehouse.
Laura's mother and freaked out and persuaded her husband to check out what was happening in the little stuff Warehouse. The reason because the house seemed too empty and desolate for a child to be crying.
At first, her husband hesitated at first but took into action when the Cries increased and was yelling for help. He tried pushing the door open but it was locked and there was no fitting key anywhere near so he had to break in.
there was a child curled up like a ball at the edge of the room, crying and panting helplessly her eyes deep in tears. he had carried her in his arms and showed her to Laura's mother who felt pity for this little cute child.
They had taken her home and took care of her, introduced her to their daughter who was sake age as hers and named her Dorian since she didn't remember her name after the shock of her mother's death.
they had brought her up, fed her and took her to dinner parties till she was seventeen and wanted to live on her own to easen their burden, she had told them.
she remembered the sad looks on their faces when she told them. they were reluctant to let her go but finally did when she promised to visit them on a regular basis.
If it weren't for them, her grave would have been old and dirt striken now if at all she was buried.
"You are lost in thoughts again" Laura said with a patient look on her face, patting her back softly " don't be sad, I love you"
Dorian looked up I met with her friend's warm gaze "I know you do, your parents do, too" .
"I'm glad you know that" Laura smiled at Dorian admiring her. "let's talk about something else, I'm bored"
" Like?"
" I don't know. pick a topic"
Dora thought for a second and replied "why don't we take a walk instead instead?"
