Coldfire: A Touch of the Abyss

Aether is a patchwork of realities, stitched together with the coarse threads of fate. The High Ones feast on floating islands, flouting the laws of gods and men. The Low Ones rot in the stench of the underbelly, dreaming of a breath of fresh air. Between them lie countless layers of existence, where magic intertwines with despair. Into this chaotic world steps the Unknown. His face is hidden beneath a cowl, and in his eyes burns the cold fire of the Abyss. He is no hero, no savior; he is a catalyst for change, ruthless and hypocritical. The Unknown seeks no followers; he is a solitary figure. He wanders Aether, sowing the seeds of knowledge, but not out of noble intent. His gift is a curse, a trial that breaks the weak and elevates the strong. He asks for no payment, but the price of his lessons is blood, sweat, and tears. He whispers the secrets of the universe into the ears of the outcast, but cares nothing for their fate. He is a spark that can ignite the flame of hope or burn everything to ashes. The story begins with Kael, a young thief from the underbelly who overhears the Unknown conversing with a spirit. Words laden with ancient magic and forbidden knowledge ignite within him a spark of ambition. He begins to stalk the Unknown, seeking to glean his secrets. But the Unknown is no teacher in the conventional sense. He does not give lessons; he creates situations in which his "students" are forced to learn to survive, adapt, and overcome. Kael becomes an unwitting witness to the Unknown's actions, seeing how his "gifts" alter the destinies of others, shattering the old order and giving rise to new chaos. He realizes that the Unknown does not strive for balance; he craves destruction, the rebirth of the world in the fires of the Abyss. And Kael, intoxicated by the power that newfound knowledge grants him, becomes a part of this chaos. Kael's path intersects with others who have also been "blessed" by the Unknown's touch. Some descend into madness, others become tyrants, and still others become martyrs. Each of them is a tool in the Unknown's hands, a pawn in his game with reality. And Kael must decide who he wants to be – a pawn or a player. "Coldfire" is a story about the price of knowledge, the dark side of power, and how even in the most ruthless chaos, there is a perverse beauty. It is a story not of heroes, but of survivors, not of salvation, but of transformation, not of light, but of the cold fire of the Abyss that consumes all in its path.

But not everyone is so fortunate. Some cannot grow their Aura, and a few- like Joker- are born with none at all. Those born without Aura are branded as a Harlequin and cast to the lowest rung of society. Joker survives in the shadows of Sing, a city built around the Harrow Sect- and a place subject to the majority of their tyranny. The Harlequins are reaching their breaking point, and the whispers of the hidden Revolution Cult grow louder. When a chance encounter pulls Joker into their secret world, he discovers a shocking truth: his parents, who he never knew, were leaders in the rebellion—martyrs who gave everything to ignite a spark of hope amongst the Harlequin. Now, as the Harrow Sect tightens its grip on Gina and rebellion rises from the shadows, Joker must decide where he stands. Will he remain a pawn in a system designed to break him, or rise as a symbol of defiance? In a world where power is taken, not given, Joker’s path will blur the lines between survival and revolution as he faces the legacy of his parents and the potential buried deep within himself.

“He who fights Monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a Monster. And if you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.” ~Friedrich Nietzsche However, what if the one fighting the Monsters is already one himself? ~~~~ Ethan is a seventeen year old teenager who is currently living at a church, seeing how he was abandoned at birth and found by one of the nuns who worshiped the Goddess of Light. The clergy often treated him differently than the other orphans because his appearance was unnatural. He knew nothing about who he truly was, however, what he did know is that he was not Human like the rest of the people in the church. For years he searched for the answer to find out what he was, but all the clues didn't go anywhere. Until the night where he had a dream, or one could say a vision, where he was walking past many books and stopping in front of one. Written on the cover was a single word "Bloodborne". Ethan was determined to find that book and read it, however, is obtaining knowledge always a good thing? He would discover more about himself than he wanted to after finding that book, and many hardships would follow. ~~~~ I do this as a hobby in my free time or when I feel inspired, it will likely not turn into anything serious in the future. So be ready for it not to update daily or for a few months. Since ten chapters have been released, I'm putting the Discord Link in here: https://discord.gg/gkbWjRVmEW

Battle of Karbala

The Battle of Karbala (Arabic: مَعْرَكَة كَرْبَلَاء‎) was fought on 10 October 680 (10 Muharram in the year 61 AH of the Islamic calendar) between the army of the second Umayyad Caliph Yazid I and a small army led by Husayn ibn Ali, the grandson of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, at Karbala, modern day Iraq. Prior to his death, the Umayyad caliph Muawiyah I had nominated his son Yazid as his successor. Yazid's nomination was contested by the sons of a few prominent companions of Muhammad, including Husayn, son of the fourth caliph Ali, and Abd Allah ibn Zubayr, son of Zubayr ibn al-Awam. Upon Muawiyah's death in 680 CE, Yazid demanded allegiance from Husayn and other dissidents. Husayn did not give allegiance and traveled to Mecca. The people of Kufa, an Iraqi garrison town and the center of Ali's caliphate, were averse to the Syria-based Umayyad caliphs and had a long-standing attachment to the house of Ali. They proposed Husayn overthrow the Umayyads. On Husayn's way to Kufa with a retinue of about 70 men, his caravan was intercepted by a 1,000-strong army of the caliph at some distance from Kufa. He was forced to head north and encamp in the plain of Karbala on 2 October, where a larger Umayyad army of 4,000 arrived soon afterwards. Negotiations failed after the Umayyad governor Ubayd Allah ibn Ziyad refused Husayn safe passage without submitting to his authority, a condition declined by Husayn. The Battle of Karbala ensued on 10 October during which Husayn was killed along with most of his relatives and companions, while his surviving family members were taken prisoner. The battle was followed by the Second Fitna, during which the Iraqis organized two separate campaigns to avenge the death of Husayn; the first one by the Tawwabin and the other one by Mukhtar al-Thaqafi and his supporters. The Battle of Karbala galvanized the development of the pro-Alid[a] party (Shi'at Ali) into a unique religious sect with its own rituals and collective memory. It has a central place in the Shi'a history, tradition, and theology, and has frequently been recounted in Shi'a literature. For the Shi'a, Husayn's suffering and death became a symbol of sacrifice in the struggle for right against wrong, and for justice and truth against injustice and falsehood. It also provides the members of the Shi'a faith with a catalog of heroic norms. The battle is commemorated during an annual ten-day period during the Islamic month of Muharram by Shi'a, culminating on tenth day of the month, known as the Day of Ashura. On this day, Shi'a Muslims mourn, hold public processions, organize religious gathering, beat their chests and in some cases self-flagellate. Sunni Muslims likewise regard the incident as a historical tragedy; Husayn and his companions are widely regarded as martyrs by both Sunni and Shi'a Muslims.
