Marquess Barnette sat directly across from Ruby. The expression on his face was terrible, and his heart was filled with anger and disgust toward his daughter.
He abandoned her because he thought Ruby was just a daughter who brought him bad luck and kept embarrassing him in front of the nobles. However, his mute daughter filed severe charges against him for alleged violence and attempted murder.
"If only I knew she would get me into trouble now. I would have thrown her out onto the streets since she was born," grumbled Marquess Barnette.
Marchioness Barnette, who was sitting next to him, chimed in. "I told you long ago that your concubine's children are nothing but trouble! But you never listened to me!"
Marquess Barnette sighed after hearing his wife's nagging. "Those children looked harmless back then, so how could I know something bad like this would happen?"
