It was the middle of the day in Saffron City as Kimi had wandered out of the protection of the city and had wandered down the road towards the next city.
By her side were Tyrogue, Espeon and Growlithe so she had stood out enough for those passing by to take notice of her.
It had not been that long since she had left the city but a child that looked around her age had stepped forward to block her path before challenging her to a battle.
It was a regular scene which she had gotten used to upon arriving in the world so there was no need for her to decline or be displeased that someone had stopped her from reaching her destination.
If a trainer asked for a battle then it could easily be declined but depending on the personality of the trainer, there could be annoying problems that could appear later.
Some were usually just too insistent for the battles to happen while others would think the other person was looking down on them so they would continue to bother that person and cause problems for them.
It was kind of the same for overconfident trainers who had lost battles to someone and felt that they had lost unjustly or that they should not have lost so they would do similar things.
Not every trainer was so willing to accept their loss or the declining of battles they had initiated while there were many other factors that had caused further friction between trainers.
If someone had lower resources and access to Pokémon then their losses would mean that they would have to struggle in the future to pay for healing costs and so on.
Those that lost and could not afford such treatments had to seek out breeders or those that treated Pokémon for lower fees or were involved in the underworld just so that they could get by.
The less fortunate and those that did not choose to use such options available to them could lose their Pokémon after it had died from not being treated and checked over properly so they would have to start again from scratch or rely on other Pokémon that they had available to them.
One Pokémon trainer would be able to defeat those odds against them and be able to build a strong team for themselves but it was not the case for those that did not possess the talent or funds to let them reach a higher stage.
They had no choice but to challenge others and wild Pokémon if they wanted to continue growing stronger so it created a vicious cycle where many trainers battled to decide their future fates.
To decline such an opportunity for personal growth or to decline that for another person who wanted to use every opportunity available to them could be seen as a great insult at times while other times, the losers would come to blame those that had defeated them for their misfortunes.
Working as an officer had taught Kimi to be especially careful in the way she battled others due to being involved in investigating cases which had started out from such events and had become large harassment, assault or even murder cases.
Such cases had several reasons behind how things turned out that way but there were reasons behind them at times where trainers took battles too far and did too much harm to their opponents Pokémon.
It had taught Kimi that she could accept battles but not everyone would be so willing to play by the rules or would want to show mercy to their opponents.
Even if that was the case, Kimi did not wish to act in a bad way that would earn her any future troubles.
The battle had begun and Tyrogue was pushed forward to start the battle so that he could gain some experience due to the power that Kimi had felt from the Mankey that had been released.
Two small fighting types had been up against each other which had been a decent matchup to test each of their fighting capabilities so Kimi had even less reason to decline even if the Mankey was a couple of levels higher than Tyrogue.
The youth opposite Kimi had shouted. "Mankey! Use scratch!"
Mankey came rushing forward and jumped towards Tyrogue to brink down its hand to scratch him but Tyrogue had avoided it by stepping to the side.
More orders kept coming in for more scratches that came from different angles then once that failed to land an effective hit, Mankey went in close for a Low Kick.
The low kick was aimed to trip Tyrogue who was close by but Tyrogue was able to jump up into the air. "Tyrogue!"
A sudden order came from the youth. "Seismic Toss!"
Tyrogue was in the air so once he came down, he would be much easier to grab where he was supposed to land so Mankey prepared itself to grab hold tightly to him in preparation for its next move.
Kimi had grown tired of the battle and had seen that she could no longer play around to let Tyrogue gain more experience.
Tyrogue had mainly been working on his evasive abilities and watching his opponents use of their different moves so that he could grow further during the battle so he had been happy enough to keep the battle going until he finally received the order to attack.
Just as he was coming down, his arms stretched out and clapped together with a large amount of force which had caused Mankey to suddenly flinch and suffer a little harm. "M..Mankey?"
The waist of Mankey had been hit hard as Tyrogue tackled it to the ground, the use of Fake-Out had saved Tyrogue from being grabbed and thrown using Seismic Toss then had presented a moment to attack once he had landed.
That opportunity was not wasted and Mankey was damaged from the two moves used in a short period of time, Tyrogue was the first back up to his feet and took up a distance while Mankey was slower to climb up.
Its body was shaking and its nasal breathing had become rough which had shown that it had become enraged, its eyes locked onto Tyrogue and charged forward without warning or the orders from its trainer.
"Mankey? Mankey!"
The arms of Mankey had kept thrashing around as it tried to land a scratch on Tyrogue but Tyrogue had continued to keep up his steady focus and concentration in battle.
The Mankey started to further tire itself out in its state of rage and it started to become more wild and reckless which allowed another tackle to land.
Kimi watched on as she had won the battle and sighed. 'This is why battling can be annoying at times too.'
There were pros and cons to battles that could be expected to happen before, during or after as a result of the trainers personality and for other reasons but there were problems with certain Pokémon too.
The Pokémon that had personality or temperamental issues would not just cause harm to their opponents but could go wild enough that they would be unable to distinguish friend from foe and would not listen to their trainer.
There were always cases of Mankey and other Pokémon with similar problems that trainers had been unable to train properly or get control over which had resulted in severe damage and harm.
There were times where the future of an opponent of such types would have their future ruined by losing their important partner or being harmed themselves but Kimi was able to remain calm enough to guide Tyrogue through that crisis.
Such encounters and cases were another reason why Kimi did not have that much of a liking towards more difficult Pokémon and would not add them to her teams.
The Mankey had been defeated and fainted but its state was not that severe so the youth had retreated back to the city in a hurry without bothering Kimi any further.
Although Kimi was a little annoyed that the youth had almost caused a big problem for her, she decided to let it go and not make a big deal out of it since there was no real harm done to her side.
Once it was all over, Kimi looked towards the distance and checked her surroundings. "Just a little further and hopefully there will be no further obstructions."
