Chapter 13 - Cause

Although the levels were low and they only had the use of smaller scale and powered moves, Kimi was able to make use of them and the environment to overcome the first wave of Ratata.

The next one was incoming as she was stepping forward and she then ordered. "Again but target over there next."

She pointed to another large area of thick and long grass that was a little further away and was in the direct path that was obstructing the route between Viridian City and Pallet Town.

Just as Growlithe sent out several embers, the army of Ratata had entered into that area before becoming trapped within the flames that spread and surrounded them quickly.

Kimi connected her aura to share her senses with Growlithe then Growlithe entered the burning grass area and then took a bite out of one of the injured Ratata which had yet to receive enough burn damage to severely injure or kill it.

It was quickly dragged out in Growlithe's mouth and dropped in a fainted state which allowed Kimi to throw a Pokéball at it.

The Ratata that had been able to escape and found themselves running towards Kimi were attacked with bubble from Poliwag and Tackle by Eevee before being hit by a ball and captured in their weakened state.

Growlithe had the Flash Fire innate ability so it did not take any damage from the flames and could move about them freely but she did have to come back out for some air so she only entered for a short time to attack and retrieve the fainted Ratata that she could.

The second wave was dealt with much faster than before after the team had started to cooperate more efficiently together.

The amount of captures and deaths in total were rising with every passing moment and as the flames were extinguished and controlled to prevent further spread of the fire, Kimi did her part as she collected the Pokéballs and ended the lives of the remaining Ratata that were hanging on to the edge of their lives.

The Ratata corpses were placed into the bag on her back while the Pokéballs were set aside in her other bag where she had made different sections for used, unused and her own team Pokéballs. "That is two overly aggressive groups. Now we wait…"

Another wave did not come as fear had struck the hearts of the Ratata and they did not dare to mess with her because they would just be running towards their deaths.

Most of the Ratata had escaped to their burrows underground or towards the central area in Route one but those that had remained out in the open were suddenly picked off by the Pigdey in the area.

Without the long grass to provide them extra cover, the Ratata had to go underground to survive being hunted by the Pidgey that were up in the sky or resting up in the trees.

If there were any Ratata that did run too far and strayed into Pallet town then they would have the worst luck since a high level trainer is residing there by the name of Professor Oak.

As a former champion and researcher, Professor Oak could be said to be a powerhouse that is residing within a small town or could also be described as a hidden expert.

If Pallet Town was endangered then he and his fellow assistants or researchers would step up to remove whatever threats appeared.

Kimi continued to wander around and cleared the thick and long grass enough to allow people to walk through Route One safely but she continued to observe the surroundings.

She wrote down some notes of what she had witnessed and then wrote down her conclusion which would he submitted. "High Ratata population with high aggressiveness, low Pidgey population. With the lower amount of Pidgey in the area it is concluded that the Ratata have less danger from predators so have become more aggressive and overconfident in their abilities so they had been determined to seize the area and chase off any intruders. Since it is a publicly used route and it is used by beginner trainers, the chances of injury and death has risen with the combination of these factors."

She then added. "The cause of this would be allowing the Ratata population to grow too big but there could be another problem. Pidgey which is a predator to Ratata is much lower in numbers so they will have a harder time hunting and reducing the fast growing Ratata population which has created this imbalance. So the root of the problem could be that new trainers are capturing Pidgey to add to their team since it is a more popular choice while Ratata is less favoured so it will be captured less. The imbalance starts from this."

Kimi made sure to patrol the area and made a quick visit to Pallet Town to check for anything else out of place before she went back to Viridian City to show her findings and the proof of her work.

The person at the desk looked over the data related to the time of capture and the Pokémon within the Pokéballs before checking the bag filled with the dead Ratata. "Kid.. you really showed no mercy."

Kimi explained. "If you read this report then you will understand. The task difficulty was much higher than what has been posted and there was far too many for one person to deal with alone. I could not hold back if I wanted to come out of it unscathed."

The person at the desk then looked over the details of the report and then nodded their head. "You are very thorough. We will send someone to check over the route to confirm everything. If this is true then we need to put up a sign or a warning of some kind to prevent the same thing from happening again."

Kimi rolled her eyes as she thought. 'But.. you will not do that because this is something that always repeats itself, even if you do voice your own opinion to the higher ups… they will not listen. Then again, without these problems there would be even less jobs available so it is probably done in order to remind the people of the importance of the city guards and the officers.'

The person at the desk then looked at the bag. "Do you want me to dispose of that?"

Normally anyone would gladly accept their offer but Kimi shook her head. "I can do it myself thanks."

Kimi received the payment and then went to register her new captures in the Pokémon Centre, she then went upstairs and found that her exchanges had been successful so she had more money added to her account.

She had also gained an additional Pokémon that was a Feebas which had orange talent and a low level but she did not care about such things when Feebas was involved.

As she returned home, she placed the bag of dead Ratata in a box and sealed it tightly to prevent the smell from leaking out and placed a lock on it.

Kimi went onto her computer and placed a new thread up that was for the trade of Ratata for other common Pokémon, the thread was extended to other regions. "Nine Ratata for trade or selling. Lowest level range, talents between red and light orange. Willing to trade for any other regions Pokémon that have a much higher population."

Her reasons for doing so were to make a little extra money on the side with her newly captured Ratata, while it would be costly to trade with other regions there was the benefit of gaining Pokémon that could be traded or sold in her local area for a higher price than Ratata.

It did not matter what their talents or level was because they would be sold to become house pets, beginner trainer companions or some may be qualified to participate in beauty shows and other things so there was a demand for them especially since the league and higher families usually keep the good and rare ones for themselves.

After feeding and resting up a little, Kimi left her home again and headed towards Pallet Town through Route One with a couple of extra things on her back while followed by her two shadows after she had restocked on her Pokéball supply.

She soon found herself at the bottom of Pallet Town where she sat fishing until it would start to become dark.
