The greatest failure in the battle was the use of Raticate by her opponent as it had the agility and power to land an attack on either Growlithe or Eevee which could have changed the flow of the battle.
The man was much too focussed on attacking Kimi so that took his strongest Pokémon out of the battle, if it was someone else then they would have been defeated by such a tactic but Kimi had enough experience and ability to combat such a situation so it lead to the mans downfall.
Grimer was too slow and so were many of its attacks while Ekans was left to try hold down either Eevee or Growlithe who were using hit and run tactics.
Although Kimi was at a disadvantage, she was able to turn things around with her unique tactics that were not bound to the usual battle formations that heavily relied on protecting the trainer from danger.
The city guard came to the gate and saw the badly wounded man that was tied up. "What is going on here? Are you responsible for this?"
Kimi took out her pass and identification card then handed them over along with her new bounty card. "This criminal was lurking outside the city walls and tried to attack me. I am here to hand him in."
The guard smiled and then stepped forward. "We will take him from here, you can go back home now. Good job kid but next time be a little gentler okay?"
Kimi rolled her eyes and replied. "He was trying to kill me so I held back the best I could considering the threat he posed. Do not misunderstand, this is my bounty and I wish to collect it. All I need is your help taking him through the city to prevent any other problems from him."
The guard paused for a moment and then remembered the bounty card. "You are quite young to be a bounty hunter, the dangers are much higher.. why don't you apply to be a city guard or officer? Then you can work with others to protect the city."
Kimi shook her head firmly. "Although I do come from the Jenny family, my future is not tied to that type of job. Although there are benefits to it, the pay is quite low and would not be able to support me. A life as a bounty hunter is more rewarding and more free even if it can be dangerous."
The guard let out a sigh. "That is only if you are capable enough to carry out the difficult tasks or capture more dangerous criminals. The rewards will be much less and your rate of pay will be more unpredictable based on your own luck and abilities. There will also be no organisation backing you so you are on your own. If you make an enemy of someone, you will have nobody to protect you."
Kimi continued walking along the road and she answered. "Then I just have to be strong enough to protect myself. That guy said that he did not fear my backing in the moment that he wished to rob and kill me so the protection from the Jenny family is just superficial in the eyes of these criminals. If they have a grudge then they will find a way to act against me, the family or another organisation can only provide a certain layer of protection."
The guard continued to pull the man along. "I guess this guy has only made you more determined. Kid.. I am only telling you this because I am worried about you so I hope that you do not feel offended."
Kimi shook her head. "It is fine."
They quickly arrived at the officer building within the city and the guard shouted. "This kid caught this criminal outside the city and has a bounty card so be sure to pay her for her efforts."
The guard pulled the head of the man up to reveal his face. "Is there anyone with this face on the wanted posters?"
The person at the desk checked many of the bounty posters then shook their head. "This is not a face I can remember. The burn marks do not help.."
Kimi took out the journal and the trophies that the criminal had collected then placed them on the desk. "These should help."
The person at the desk looked over them and sighed. "So he takes an item of the victim from the scene of the crime. That should help to identify him from some of our unsolved cases, the journal is the best help though. Thank you."
After a little while, the man was confined and taken away while the person at the desk returned. "Thank you. There have been a series of murders and robberies happening which have been left unsolved and there had been no witnesses to provide an image for their bounty but I have found his. Here is your payment. Is there anything else you need?"
Kimi took out two illegal Pokéballs and placed them on the desk. "These were also in his possession and were used in the killings. There should be a reward for handing in illegally owned and unregistered Pokémon too."
The person at the desk smiled. "Thank you, I will bring you the payment right away."
They did not notice that Kimi had concealed one illegal Pokéball that contained a Pokémon within along with some empty ones among her own Pokéballs within her bag.
Unless they were all put through a computer or a detector then there was no way to determine which were official or unofficial Pokéballs.
Kimi then left the guard behind and wandered along the streets with Eevee and Growlithe before making a trip to the Pokémon Centre to heal up her Pokémon with the exception of the unregistered one.
She made sure to purchase some sprays and potions before leaving and then headed out after paying the bill.
When she returned home for the day, she logged onto her computer and started to post on the trading and purchasing forums. [Magikarp orange talent, Goldeen orange talent, Poliwag lower yellow talent all for sale or trade. One of each remaining and their estimated power is in the lower rankings. Recommended for new trainers or those with a pond or aquarium.]
The lower or beginner rankings were considered as the power ranking for weaker Pokémon with less experience or those that had hatched from their eggs not long ago.
The rankings were determined in a similar way to how the game had shown it but it was separated into certain categories from one to fifteen, sixteen to thirty, thirty-one to forty-five, forty-six to sixty, sixty-one to seventy-five, seventy-six to ninety then finally ninety-one to ninety-nine.
The Pokémon which she had caught were still within the first category in terms of combat power since they had lived quite peaceful lives and avoided being captured as they lived within the water while the Raticate that had been fought was within the next category up and the Ekans and Grimer were both on the upper side of first power ranking category.
While her own Eevee and Growlithe were both slowly climbing up the lowest rank onto the next after their many victories, it would still require much more experience for them to grow to be on par with the Raticate in terms of level and stats.
If her own team was ranked as the most beginner and lowest ranking then the highest were the Elite Four of the regions and other people with at least one or more Pokémon that were within the highest power ranking category or they had a full team that coordinated well together within the ranking below.
If the legendary rank was from ninety-one to ninety-nine then seventy-six was the pseudo legendary rank.
Kimi emptied her trash and put it into a pile after she carried it into her back yard, she then released all her Pokémon and said. "You three should be working together in the future so we will train together from now on. And you.. you will need to grow stronger then you can be of use to me. So use whatever I throw away."
Poliwag, Eevee and Growlithe quickly got to know each other over a meal and playing in the back yard while Grimer sat in a large pile of trash as Kimi went back inside to grab anything that should have been discarded.
During her previous life, she had found out a method to raise a Grimer or Muk which was very unorthodox and cruel but it helped to increase the rate talent, growth and toxicity of them so she chose to keep it even if its talents happened to be low.
No sane person would consider such a method to raise them but she was lucky enough to come across one criminal who chose to use such methods.
The criminal was caught but the information was never made public to the world because of the repercussions it could have within the darker parts of the world so Kimi saw the Grimer as a perfect choice for her dark team but even she was hesitant to go out of her way to use that method. "For now.. you just live in your trash. You four can form teams of two and change so you do not become too dependant on one lineup. It will help you guys learn to battle without my directions too."
Since Grimer and Muk lived on waste and within it, they were not costly to raise since they just lived off the leftovers and trash so Grimer would not put that much of a burden on her to train and feed.
After spraying it a little with the first aid spray she had bought, Grimer had recovered from the injuries it suffered during the battle so it was more lively but it did not dare to go against Kimi who was its new master.
It was a little resistant to the idea of having a new master but since it was being treated better than when it was with the criminal, it quickly changed its allegiance.
After they finished their training together, she called Grimer and Poliwag back and then went to bed followed by Eevee and Growlithe.
In the morning when she woke up, she treated her father to a meal with the money she had earned from her first bounty.
