Synopsis
An orphan named Havok is raised in an awful place known as 'the complex', but even as a child he is not one to just accept his fate. Those that were raised in 'the complex' were destined to be tossed to the side once they had fulfilled their purpose. He learned and adapted as he taught himself how to survive. But the life that he envisioned for himself is wiped away as a catastrophe hits Earth devastating the population and changing it in a way that would alter the lives of everyone on the planet. On the brink of death, he meets someone who would change his life and teach him how to be a ranker. Mana arrived on Earth and rankers were born. As the one person on Earth with an affinity for darkness his life was not going to pleasant, but that was not a problem for Havok. The same affinity that made others despise him and hunt him down, is the same power that he was going to use to slaughter a path to true freedom. He was raised on violence, so that is what he built his life around. Follow Havok with his signature smile and his handpicked family on their bloody journey. They will cry, win, lose, laugh and bleed together. Their story is not one for the faint of heart because the corpses of their enemies will be used as building blocks on their journey to the top. This novel will have adult language and other explicit imagery. I will be making some changes to the 'Earth' in the novel. I will also be mixing beasts and other lore from various religions, beliefs and faiths. It just depends on what I find interesting and fun to write about. If you happen to read my novel, please leave me some feedback. Either good or bad, as long as it is constructive, I welcome it. Thank you. Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 - A child appears

The sound of thunder was echoing through the sky and lightning was constantly striking the ground, blasting apart anything it touched. The sky rumbled as the storm continued to worsen.

In front of a tall metal fence with barbed wire at the top of it an infant was being placed on the ground in a wicker basket. The strange part was even though it was cold, and a fierce thunderstorm was raging, the baby was not crying. Instead, it was sleeping soundly as the noise didn't seem to bother it.

Rumble!

Thunder was echoing loudly as rain poured down, yet the child was still sleeping. A loud buzzer sounded out as the metal gate opened slowly and a man with an umbrella walked over to the baby. A look of surprise flashed on his face as he saw that the baby was still sleeping even though the storm was growing louder by the second. The baby was wrapped up, the man bent down to take a closer look and saw that the baby was a boy. He picked up the basket and turned around and headed back towards the building he came out of as the buzzing of the gate closed behind him.

He walked towards large metal doors and swiped the card he had around his neck in the scanner on the right wall next door. The scanner that was red when he first walked up beeped and turned green and he finally walked in as he wanted to get out of the rain as soon as possible.

He put the wicker basket on the ground and shook the umbrella attempting to get all of the water off of it. Once he was done, he sat the umbrella against the wall next to the metal doors. He took off his coat and wiped his hand through his hair to get rid of the water. The umbrella didn't not help that much because of the extreme wind that was blowing the rain all over the place. He was still soaking wet. He finished what he was doing and bent down to pick up the basket and was slightly startled. He paused for a few seconds when he saw the baby that was asleep just a few seconds ago, now wide awake and staring at him with its big eyes. It was off putting how calm the baby was, being around kids every day the man knew that this was not normal behavior.

"Hmmm… Two different eye colors and he is so calm that it is unnerving." The man looked to be in his early thirties with medium curly brown hair, he was around 6ft tall and was on the heavier side. He had large rectangular glasses frames, with curly brown eyes and a plain looking face that carried a neutral expression. His skin was slightly tanned, and he was currently wearing a white lab coat and brown slacks and black work shoes.

He snapped out of his daze and picked up the basket and walked down a long corridor that had several doors on each side. The lights in the hallway were bright, but at times they would flicker giving the hallway a creepy aesthetic. He continued to walk for some time, this whole time Havok was wide awake and looking around with his big eyes curiously as if he was studying where he was.

He finally turned to a room that had the word 'Surveillance' on it. He opened the door without knocking, the room had several screens all along the front wall, with multiple buttons on the desktop and there were two people sitting in chairs relaxing as they stared at the monitors. He opened the door, "Hey, did either of you see who dropped this kid off?" He asked as he lifted the basket, looking rather calm.

The two men were both young, they looked like they were in their early twenties, and they were wearing beige security uniforms. They were both average looking and in decent shape. They both flinched when the door opened, and it took them a few seconds to respond. They both stood up and looked at each other before one of them nodded and finally answered. "No sir, we did not get a clear look at who dropped him off. We just saw someone with an average build dressed in all black, they had a hood covering their face, so the cameras didn't get a clear shot. The drop off also happened in the middle of a severe thunderstorm with heavy rain that interfered with the quality of the camera's lens. The person dropped him off under the awning that covers the gate, and they also kept their head down, as if they knew where the cameras were."

"Hmmm… That is strange, let me see the footage." That man said, as it was clear who was in charge. "Yes sir," they both responded at the same time as they played the video on the monitors. The video played on a loop as the man studied the footage hoping to see who the person was. Even after several viewing he still found nothing. "Slow it down, take it frame by frame." The man said as he continued to scan the monitors vigilantly. "Yes sir."

The man stayed in this room staring at the screens for a while. He finally gave up, "Hah… I can't find anything. This truly is troublesome. Send me a copy of the video and get back to work, don't let me catch you slacking off!" He barked as he turned and exited the room. "Yes sir!" Both men responded loudly, as droplets of sweat could be seen dripping down the side of both of their faces.

The door slammed shut and the two men in the surveillance room let out a sigh of relief. "That man is truly terrifying, why is he here anyways? He never deals with the kids or comes to this wing. Hah… Anyways we survived, let's get back to work." The other man nodded as they both wiped the sweat on their faces with their shirts and sat back down then stared at the screen's laser focused on doing their job.

The man left the surveillance room and continued down the hall to another set of white doors, he grabbed the card on his neck and scanned it. He then bent over and placed his face in front of a different type of scanner. Two red lasers shot out and scanned his eyes. That beeping sound from earlier occurred and the doors swung open. The man entered a large room that had several tables with benches attached. There were a handful of people there and they all had on white lab coats like him. All of them turned and looked towards the door to see who just entered. Surprise could be seen on all of their faces when they saw who it was and that he was holding a basket with a baby in it.

The baby was now asleep, everyone just stared at him, and an awkward silence ensued.

After about a minute a man sitting at the tables finally broke the tension, his brow furrowed as he asked. "Troy, why the hell do you have a baby and where did you get it from?" He was bald, and his skin was just a little bit darker than Troy. HIs face seemed to maintain a scowl at all times. He had two small golden hoop earrings and a beard with black hair, if you looked closely enough you could see a few grey hairs mixed in there as well. Tattoos could be seen on his neck and hands, while the lab coat presumably covered the rest of them. Him and Troy were about the same height.

Troy, the man that was currently carrying the baby scowled as he answered back coldly, "Something was seen outside the gate sitting under the awning, so I went to check, and this is what I found. You should be asking how someone knew where we were located and knew that we would accept a child that appeared on our front door. The last time I checked this place is not supposed to exist and no one outside of the employees and the boss know about what happens here. Yet, someone brought us a kid, so whoever it is clearly knows what goes on here. How about you worry about that, Damon?"

Everyone thought about what Troy said and they got nervous including Damon. If the news spread about what was happening here all of them would be done for. Troy walked across the room and passed all of the tables to another white door where he scanned his card, the doors opened and right when he was about to leave Damon spoke up. "I am going with you; this is a massive problem." Troy kept walking and said, "Whatever, just try not to get us killed."

"Tch!"

Damon clicked his teeth in annoyance, but he still followed Troy down the hallway. Just like the other hallway doors lined both sides, but they kept on walking until they reached a large red door. Troy waited for Damon to catch up and they stood side by side in front of the red door. A camera was above the door, it had a blinking red light, and it was angled right at where Troy and Damon were standing. He scanned his eyes and then placed his hand on a different scanner that flashed as it scanned his hand. Damon copied what Troy did. Troy then pushed and held a black button that was next to the scanners and spoke, "We need to speak to the boss, it's an emergency." He let go of the button and they both just stood there in silence waiting for a response.

A minute later a beep was heard the door clicked as it unlocked, Troy grabbed the door handle and proceeded to open it. Both him and Damon were nervous as their boss was known for his brutality and ruthlessness, several of their co-workers have disappeared and were never heard from again. They both knew that they were about to deliver bad news and not having a solution to their problem would only make things worse.

They both took deep breaths as they crossed the threshold. The room was not that big, however, like the surveillance room there was one massive screen that covered the entire wall in front of them. There was a camera set up in front the screen pointed at the middle of the room and a light above that perfectly lit up where they were supposed to stand. They both made their way to the center of the room. Troy sat the wicker basket that was holding the kid on the ground in front of them and just then the screen turned on and a figure that had their face obscured. Though this facility had been operating for a few years none of the employees had seen the boss, they did not even know if it was a man or woman. It was not like they actually cared. They were fine as long as the money kept flowing.

The person on the screen spoke, "What is it?"

Their voice was also distorted which just furthered the mystery around the boss's identity.

"Boss, this kid was dropped off in front of the facility." Troy said as he kept his lowered in fear and respect. There was a deafening silence and both Troy and Damon could feel their hearts pounding like they never had before. "What did you say?" The boss said in a monotone voice.

Sweat started to drip down both of their faces as they could hear from the boss's voice that they were furious. Troy repeated what he said, "Someone dropped this kid off a little while ago."

"Send me the footage immediately. Did you check if there was anything else inside of that basket?"

"Not yet boss, we wanted to let you know what happened immediately. We came straight here after retrieving it. I will check right now. Troy said, as he frantically searched the basket.

The boy was still asleep even though Troy was moving him all around the basket. Troy felt something that felt like paper, and he quickly grabbed it. It was a white envelope, the outside was blank, he ripped it open and found a letter in it. He read it and the more he read the wider his eyes got.

"What does it say?" His boss said in the same tone as he did earlier.

Troy snapped out of his shock and read the letter out loud.

"I know who you are, and I know what you do. I have no need for this child, so I decided to give it to you. Now, you may be wondering if I really know who you are and for proof how about this, it's good that you got rid of that scar on your face. You look much better now, hahaha! I would strongly advise against you trying to find out who I am. On the bright side I want to help you, I will provide more kids for you, and you cut me in on the profits also I want to see what the finished product looks like. If you are interested, you can call the number at the bottom. That is all I have to say. Good luck, hahaha!"

Troy read exactly what the note said and when he finished the picture on the screen went black. However, both him and Damon could still hear what was happening on the other side. "Motherfucker! When I find out who it is I am going to let them know pain that they could never fathom!" Their boss screamed and they could also hear things being broken and smashed.

Troy and Damon were both sweating profusely as they heard their boss cursing and breaking things, this was the most nervous they had ever been in their entire lives. Their boss was already known to be brutal the thought of that same person being infuriated, and they were the ones that delivered the bad news. They both shivered slightly when they thought about what was going to happen to them.

'Why the hell did I follow this idiot here? Damn it!' thought Damon as he regretted his decision.

On the other hand, Troy preferred to look on the bright side.

'Well at least this dumbass decided to come with me, so maybe the punishment won't be as severe if it is dealt to two people instead of one. At least if I die Damon will die as well, so at least something good will happen.' Troy thought as he nervously chuckled inwardly.

The tantrum continued for several minutes, and they could both hear the boss panting and then everything went silent. Their boss took a deep breath and regained their composure, "Now, what am I going to do with those two? Hmmm…"

It was clear to both Damon and Troy that their boss did not know that they could still hear what was being said. They both froze, they didn't even dare to breath loudly and they waited for the boss to decide what to do to them. However, the boss did not speak again; it was deathly silent.

The rate that both of their hearts were pounding they were both beginning to worry that they would have a heart attack. However, when they thought about it, having a heart attack would definitely be a peaceful way to die compared to whatever their boss had planned for them.

After what seemed like an eternity to the two of them, the camera was turned back on.

"Double cameras all around the facility and increase security. Make sure that there aren't any more blind spots in the surveillance system. Get rid of whoever is working in the surveillance room and the person that set up the cameras in the first place. If something like this ever happens again, I will get rid of everyone there and find new people to get the job done. Do not fail me again!" The boss yelled as the screen went black.

Troy and Damon let out a deep breath and they finally were able to relax.

The red door clicked, and they knew that it was time to leave the room. Troy picked up the basket and paused for a second as he realized that the child was awake again and staring at him with those big bright eyes.

Damon had already walked out of the door as he wanted nothing to do with Troy. He blamed Troy for almost getting him killed, he walked down the hallway as fast as possible just to get away from him.

Troy came out of his temporary shock and picked up the basket and left the room and walked down the hallway in the same direction as Damon.

Troy made it back into the communal area and there were still a couple of people sitting at the tables. They looked at him for a second and then continued what they were doing. Damon was nowhere to be found. Troy walked to his right towards a door that had 'Subjects' written on it. He scanned his card and his eye and walked through the door and made his way down the hallway, but this hallway was much shorter than the others. There were rooms on both sides of the hallway, with large glass windows allowing anyone to see what was happening inside. Inside the rooms there are multiple infants laying down in cribs.

He walked over to the room that had the least number of kids and pressed a black button on the door. He got on the intercom and said, "I have a new arrival for you." A tall man with black rimmed glasses, black haired tied in a ponytail that went all the way to the middle of his back. He was also wearing a lab coat like Troy and Damon except he had a blue lab coat.

The man was sitting in front of a computer screen, he spun his chair around and went over to open the door. "Okay, give it to me." The man said in a deep voice. Troy handed the basket over and by the time Troy reached his destination, the child had already gone back to sleep.

The man took the basket and Troy left hoping that he would never have to go through something like that again.
