As I dashed forward after activating my legs to their limits, I felt my bones and muscles creak under strain. I had never tried to increase my speed and power this much before, and I knew I ran the risk of injuring myself. Yet it had to be done. Anything less would have meant I would make it too late.
I reached Raya's side almost instantly and cut through one of the mandibles closing around her body. The blade traveled out the other side, slicing the limb clean off, before stopping when it hit the second mandible. My thinking needed to be quick, so I had only focused on activating my legs to reach her in time.
Momentum had carried my blade through the first pincer, but the force had lessened after making contact. It was not strong enough to slice through the other one, and the creature's tough carapace easily repelled my blade.
