Chapter 1 - A New Day [Revised]

It was early morning, and the sun was peeking over the horizon, shining its golden light over a small, peaceful village. Despite how early it was, one could already see its citizens starting to move about. The reason for that was simple: this was a farming village—the Village of Kin, named by its founders for their desire to foster a friendly, tight-knit community capable of sustaining itself through cooperation.

In a house, a little secluded from the rest and surrounded by a grove, one such family of the community was also getting ready for their day at this time. It was a simple two-story house with two bedrooms upstairs, while the kitchen and dining room were downstairs. It seemed like your typical medieval wooden house with glass windows. Inside, a woman could be seen washing dishes in the kitchen while softly humming a tune as she worked.

Her name was Norma Argentus, and she lived here with her husband and their fifteen-year-old son. She had wavy auburn hair that reached her shoulders, black eyebrows, long black eyelashes, and beautiful green eyes.

The contrast of color between her hair and eyebrows was one of her defining features, along with her small dot-like mole in the bottom left corner of her mouth. Despite being in her mid-30s, she doesn't look much older than twenty-four, and her youthful appearance gave one the feeling that she was pretty popular.

"Norma, you there?" a familiar voice rang through the halls of the first floor.

Turning around from the sink, she saw a man peeking his head through the front door. Her husband, Bo Argentus, was a rugged-looking, muscular man with brown eyes, short black hair styled in a buzzcut, and a bushy beard covering his face. Being in his forties, he looked a bit older than his wife, with grey patches in his beard and hair, which gave him a sort of salt-and-pepper look.

"Yes, dear? What do you need?"

"Can you go make sure that boy gets up? It's almost time for us to work on the fields." "Okay, I'll go check on him right now."

"Thanks hun; I'm going to take Inventory; just send him my way after he eats and has a bath."

After finishing what little scrubbing she had left, Norma made her way to the stairs to head up and check on her son.

After she finished the last of the cleaning needed, Norma made her way out of the kitchen, past the dining room table, and proceeded to round the corner to head up the stairs to her son's room. She's always loved this house, everything is just how she wanted it and it offered the perfect amount of convenience for their everyday doings.

When going down the stairs, going straight ahead, one would come to the front door. If one were to turn to the right, they would come to the dining room area with the kitchen situated just north of it, giving easy access to either part of the house regardless of whether or not one was entering or exiting. On the west side of the dining room was a door leading to the side building that houses the restroom and bath.

Inside, you could find another door on the opposite side that gave access to the outside. Being someone who liked to keep things tidy, this was a necessity for Norma, especially since they were a family of farmers. In the mornings, people could enter from the dining room to wash and freshen up, and in the afternoon, when they are done with work, they can enter from the door accessible from the outside, preventing any excess dirt from being tracked in.

Norma had always been very grateful to her husband for building their house to her own specifications and for giving her such a happy life. One could say she was content at the moment that things were almost perfect . . . almost.

Sadly, nothing was perfect, and like all mothers, Norma had her own set of worries, one of them being her duties. While it was a blessing that the households in the village could be self-sufficient, for the most part, and not need to rely on aid from the Capital, that doesn't mean that the work didn't feel stressful from time to time.

Like any mom, Norma's children are a constant worry for her. Or to be more specific, as she only had a single child, her son.

In her eyes, he was very handsome, getting his best traits from her and his father, not to mention when he put his mind to it, he was very hardworking. One might almost say he was perfect. That is, if he wasn't lazy and didn't have a foul mouth. Not to mention his constant obsession with building a harem of human women.

"Ugh, where did I go wrong?" she spoke softly, smiling and chuckling to herself as she recalled his days as a child. Pulling herself out of her thoughts, Norma reached the end of the hall, knocking on the door where her son's room was.

"Rune? I'm coming in!" she proclaimed in a stern and assertive tone to make sure her arrival was heard through the thick iron and wood door.

Opening the door, she had the misfortune of witnessing her son sleeping in a rather shameful position. Lying on his back with his legs splayed out to the sides, his shirt was half pulled up, one arm was resting on his stomach with his hand half tucked under the waistline of his pajama pants while the other arm was splayed out to his side, half hanging off the bed, with his legs spread out below. His mouth was partially open with a silly grin while some drool dribbled from the corner.

"Rune, it's time to get up. Your father is waiting for you."

"hehehe. . . ladies, please, I can't anymore." Rune numbingly said.

She closed her eyes, and the corners of her mouth rose into a terrifying grin that did not reach her eyes. Her eyebrow twitched in anger, "This boy. . ."

She sighed with a rising annoyance, "I said, GET THE HELL UP!!"

This is her son, Rune Argentus. . .

(AN: Hello, Author here. I want to thank everyone who decided to pick my story up and give it a read. I hope you will continue to give my story a fair shot and join me on this journey. As it is my first time trying my hand at writing, there are obviously a few issues. I am currently in the process of re-writing the beginning to match the later parts. I hope you can be a bit lenient on me and join me on this journey. Hope to see you in future comments!)
