" I can't believe a teenager defeated Gad. Dan Chuckled.
" I was surprised myself. Everyone thought Gad would crush Boye, but to our greatest surprise-it was the opposite." Asher added.
" Boye was right all along, Gad was nothing without his men. Such a coward." Eli puffed.
Dan shakes his head. " I don't feel sympathetic towards Gad. He deserved what he got."
" If I had my way, I would kill Gad with by bare hands. Not just Gad, but every single guard in this mountain!"
" Shhhh! lower your voice Eli, Someone might here you." Asher whispered a warning.
There was silence in the room for a while before they continued their conversation-this time, in a low tone.
" I wonder what will happen to Boye now... I'm sure Warden Lucas will not spare him for killing Gad. He will certainly die for sure-there is no two ways about it. What was he thinking? He dared to challenge a guard to a One-on-one combat, knowing fully well it's against the rules.
" Don't be silly Asher, Boye has done nothing wrong. He challenged him, and Gad accepted his challenge. He could have turn it down in the first place, no one forced him to accept it. It was fair fight, and Gad lost." Dan sighed.
" I'm more concerned about us. After today's incident, the guards will make our lives more difficult than before. I pray we don't get a death sentence because of Boye's stupidity. I can only imagine the glare on Warden Lucas' face." Asher puffed.
" Let's eat our dinner in haste, this might be our last meal before we die. I don't want to die in an empty stomach."
" The only thing you know and talk about is food Eli. We're talking about life and death here, and all you could think about is food." Asher reprimanded.
" He is not entirely wrong, this might be our last meal before we die." Dan sneered.
" Stop it! No one is going to die. Why should we be punished for another man's offense. We're not responsible for Gad's death. If anyone should be punished, it's Boye."
" You speak as if you don't know these guards, Asher...they won't hesitate to end our lives if they have the opportunity to.
" Are we any better than the dead? Is it not better to be dead than to live the rest of your life as a slave. Dan giggled. The lives of our kinds could be liken to that of a fog-that could disappear anytime."
" Shhhh! Warden is coming!" A voice Spoked. Within seconds, the entire hall was as quite as a cemetery.
Lucas walked in with some guards behind him. He frowned as usual.
" I heard what happened earlier today! One of you dared to challenge my head guard, Gad...to a One-on-one combat and killed him. I want you to know... I will not punish anyone of you for it. Gad accepted the challenge aware of the outcome. It was his stupidity that got him killed. I want you all to continue with your work without fear. Non of my guards will dare harm you. I hope this incident will not repeat itself in the future...
He paused for a while, his eyes scanned through the entire hall. " Continue with your dinner!" He ordered before leaving the dining hall.
Murmuring filled the entire hall.
