Five minutes later, Shamgar and the rest of the boys walked together to the dining hall. The hall was huge, they were about Five hundred people in the hall, men and boys inclusive. Four chairs were assigned to a table. Without hesitation, they took their seats. Shamgar, Patmos, Rajah, and Ham, sat down at the same table.
" Hey! Why are you all sitting down, stand up and join the line." A boy five years older than Shamgar spoke, ushering the four of them to join the line.
" What were you guys thinking, that you're still in your father's house? No one will serve you if you sit over there. Next time, join the line."
" Thank you. My name is Patmos, what is your name?" patmos asked with a smile on his face.
" My name is Boye."
" Nice meeting you Boye. This are my friends, Rajah, Ham and... Shamgar." When he mentioned Shamgar, the expression on his face Changed. He had a slight frown on his face.
" Well, nice to meet you all." Boye replied with a smile on his face.
" Boye, how long have you been here?" Ham asked.
" Five years. I came here when I was ten." He replied with a hint of sadness In his voice.
" Then you must know my brother, Taj." Rajah asked in expectations. Boye looked at him, with his brows slightly raised.
" Who are you to Taj?" Boye asked.
" He is my elder brother. He was here five years ago." Rajah replied.
Boye paused for a while, before he spoke. " Yes, I know Taj. He was my best friend." His eyes were filled with sorrow. " I'm sorry he died." Boye replied, patting Rajah's shoulder.
" I'm sorry Raj, I didn't know..."
" It's okay, Ham. It happened two years ago, I have gotten over it." He replied.
Hearing Rajah's words, Boye breathed a sigh of relief.
They stopped talking, as everyone took their plate of food back to their tables.
" Join us Boye." Patmos gestured for Boye to join them at their table. Boye pulled his chair closer to them.
" Why are you all here?" Boye asked as he sipped his soup. " No one comes to Topaz mountain without commiting an offense. So tell me, what did you do?"
" I Stole from my Master. I needed the money to buy medicine for my sick little sister. She was dying, I had no choice but to steal. I got caught, and was sent here." Ham said, his voice quivered.
" I'm so sorry about that Ham. What happened to your sister afterwards?" Patmos asked concerned.
" She died."
" I'm sorry." Shamgar said in a cold voice. Everyone's attention suddenly drifts to Shamgar. Shamgar had a calm expression on his face. His head was down, as he ate his porridge.
" I didn't know you had a heart." Rajah said sarcastically. But Shamgar didn't reply him, he continued eating his porridge. Rajah was pissed, he hated the boy in front of him.
" I will serve my punishment for five years." Ham spoked, gaining everyone's attention. The tension in the room eased a bit.
" I stole my master's horse. Trust me, I don't regret it." Rajah giggled. Everyone at the table laughed, except Shamgar.
