Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

Walking down the streets of Greatfield felt different for Alex now.

Before, not many would bat an eye for him. He was mostly ignored by everyone and went his own way.

Walking around in the combat suit of angels made the difference Alex wanted from it.

No one could look away and everyone made way for him.

To offend a noble was a great crime in this country. To offend a high ranking official of the church that looked like he was also a noble would be a cardinal sin in the eyes of the general public.

Walking for around 10 minutes in a straight line down the main road of the city lead Alex to the adventurer's guild.

I would be the first time for Alex to enter this building. He did not have any motivation to come here before.

As he would leave the city through flight, he did not even have the need to use the front gate.

If he wanted to use the front gate now, the guards would most likely let him through regardless.

Entering through a large open wooden double door Alex entered the adventurer's guild.

Everything would become silent as he walked to the counter.

The adventurers would feel the social pressure just by looking at Alex.

As Alex arrived at the counter in front of a shaking female receptionist, the entire room full of adventurers looked at what was about to happen.

Still shaking, the receptionist began talking to Alex.

"W- What can the adventurer's guild do for you today esteemed paladin."

While not being far off, Alex still felt he needed to correct her. He was no paladin. The correct terminus should be seraphim.

"Hello, my name is Alexander from the order of seraphim. Today I want to ask the adventurer's guild to buy the corpses of a few evil beasts I slew yesterday and their equipment."

Alex looted every bit of valuable treasure in the goblin camp. That included of course the corpses of close to 50 goblins and their weapons.

The receptionist did not know what exactly the order of seraphim was. She only knew the order of paladins. Thinking that Alexander was something of similar magnitude as a paladin she proceeded carefully.

"What kind of monsters did you kill and how would you like to sell them?"

She tried to sound professional and wanted to quickly finish this transaction as it seemed.

"Close to 50 goblins. Where can I put them and their equipment? I destroyed an entire goblin camp and also looted plenty of used armor from previous adventurers."

The young man looked too confident to spout lies. As it was not her responsibility to accept large deals, she could just delegate the paladin away from her.

This lifted a huge weight off her shoulders. Relaxing a little she beckoned the paladin to follow her as she went into the back of the guild.

Alex and the receptionist entered a processing area in the guild. There were many tables in different sizes for various beasts and also a large quantity of different materials just laying around.

After calling out to a dwarf who was working of a bear hide right now, the receptionist quickly explained to him the situation and ran away in a remarkable speed.

This was not what Alex had intended wearing the combat clothes, but it was inevitable when he wanted to proceed at a fast pace. Respect was earned a lot through status in this world.

Walking around as the most powerful peasant would yield him only so much at a time.

Maybe after enough quests and time would he be respected in a country.

Through the gods faith, he could circumvent this problem.

"Hello, I am Alexander of the order of seraphim and I would like to sell goblin corpses and equipment here."

Not wanting to extend the conversation further than it was needed, I quickly advanced the conversations with the dwarf that was looking interested in me all of a sudden.

"Order of seraphim? Is that some new order of special paladins or what now? Never heard of them."

It was to be expected that "order of seraphim" would confuse a lot of people.

I still need to work on a proper greeting for the future.

"Yes, the order of seraphim is a newly created autonomous order that only follows the orders of goddess. We carry out tasks on our own and act independently. Our mission being to eradicate evil around the world."

Nodding in acceptance the dwarf accepted the situation.

It was not unusual for one of the orders of a church to storm through a city, sell their valuables and leave directly after.

The dwarf had seen it a couple times by now in his long years of work.

With the general stuff completed, Alex walked over to a relatively open area are a few meters away and took out the goblin corpses.

Every worker in the room looked at the slowly built mountain of corpses in shock.

"What can you give me for these goblins?"

Dimensional equipment or magic was rare. So rare in fact, that only high-ranking mages or nobles would be privy to hold onto them. Equipment that could store miscellaneous things such as gold or food that didn't go bad was an absolute luxury.

Alexander did not hold unto rings or crystal-like equipment which were a dead giveaway for being a dimensional storage items.

That could only mean that Alexander was a great mage.

They could not feel any mana fluctuations from Alexander. In any other case they would have guessed correctly that he was not a mage.

But he had just now clearly used magic. That could only mean that he was hiding his mana not to intimidate them.

Which would have worked fine if he had not used magic right in front of them.

The dwarf recovered faster than most in the room from his shocking discovery.

"Great seraphim, would 75 gold suffice for these corpses?"

The dwarf sweated bucked while talking.

He had doubted the order of seraphim. Speaking casually towards the seraphim now could only result in disaster.

"75 gold is a fine amount for the corpses. They are well preserved as if they had just been killed. And I killed them without damaging anything important for crafting."

He had really tried to minimize the damage the corpses suffered. Pouncing from goblin to goblin there could only be seen a bite mark that went through the spine, that directly killed the goblins.

Alexander nodded smilingly.

The smile calmed down dwarf immensely. What did not were three little words Alexander used right now.

"I Killed them" Was clearly that what had just Alexander said.

Just what in the name of God was the order of seraphim about that they could kill with the ferociousness of beasts while still looking so innocent?

The dwarf rushed towards a desk and got a bag ready with the gold.

Not wanting to spend more time with this beast, he worked more than twice as fast as he normally would.

Rushing back, he nearly tripped over his own feet.

Alexander gladly took the bag out of the tiny hands that were holding it up to him and stored the bag away in his inventory.

"I- Is there anything the guild can help the great seraphim with for the time being?"

"I think not. I will travel far away from here in a bit, so unless I decide to come back here, it is unlikely that we will ever meet again."

It seemed as if this a huge weight was lifted of the back of the dwarf.

"Right, before I completely forget to ask. Can you tell me where the headquarters of the adventurer's guild is and afterwards inform them of my likelihood to visit them for now on?

They should prepare a lot of gold for my upcoming visits because I will embark on a monster killing spree after I leave here."

The dwarf would right now do nothing more gladly than tell this crazy seraphim the way out of this city and therefore out of his own mind.

"The capital of this country is called great city of Waterstone. It is located north of here and approximately 3 months away by carriage."

If I fly with a speed of 150 km/h I should travel that distance in about 1 day and a few hours.

Carriages sure are slow.

I don't have to factor in terrain or weather like horses do, so my speed naturally is faster.

Believing that the terrain in Greatfield with a flat road that would continue even after looking at the horizon would continue forever, was a great misconception.

A forest, even a steep hill will slow down a carriage.

Carriages would have to account for anything that could go wrong.

The comparison of me being an angel that could fly as fast as a decent car and a carriage was too unfair.

Thanking the dwarf, Alex left the guild hall and made his way to a dark alleyway.

The Ethereal Form was not invisible by any means, but that did not mean that it wouldn't be hard to spot on a sunny day when looking up.

The see through blue-goldish silhouette did not attract any attention while leaving the city.

Flying at a high altitude I looked at my map and accepted the quests for all of the places I would fly through.

Killing all the monsters there would yield me a lot of experience.

The quests I picked up from the system consisted of mostly kill quests or extermination quests, so I did not need to worry about story elements getting in my way.

Unnecessary conversations could usually be avoided in the parts of the world that were swarming with monsters.

I love to have a clear goal in my mind and working on it without any outside distraction.

My agenda was to get stronger. Leveling mostly took care of my strength and survivability.

The only pressing issue that I had, was that my fighting style was nonexistent.

Pouncing from enemy to enemy while ripping them open using my fangs was not a creative fighting style.

Swords could be a good thing for me.

They were historically a status symbol of wealth as well as a dangerous weapon.

Magic was another thing that would help me immensely. Mages that could manipulate the elements and destroy cities and countries with little numbers were feared even among nobles.

The soul transfer via the gaming capsules were also essentially an application of magic.

I've seen people using magic. I can even sense it, jet I never had the time to properly try using it.

My abilities used no mana as a resource. Or did they?

I don't know yet.

From what I've read on the forum, this world follows the mana core theory that was very popular in games.

That means the mana core theory is real?

Wait, that opens a huge question I did not even think about before. For how long did the gods know that they would make the game?

Did they spread real concepts through media?

There was a high chance that this is exactly what they did.

Otherwise how would even I knew many of the races present in this world?

Nobody told me what exactly goblins were.

I was not even surprised by the dwarf I spoke to earlier.

Some might be rarer as they are less talked about in media, but they are still somewhere to be found on the internet.

Oh hell no!!! Does that mean the stories about demons are real too?

What have I gotten myself into as an angel…

For now I should focus on one thing and one thing alone.

My mana core was a necessity that I could not ignore any longer.

The creation of a mana core required to gather mana in a single spot in your body and then to press it really tight so that the mana crystalizes into a ball.

But I am a soul. Would that even work with this avatar?
