Chapter 489 - Irony

All four players answered correctly, but aside from Arthur, the other three seemed not happy.

Peter didn't talk much; he understood the implications of turning bad, meaning he would become the complete opposite of himself. The kind and virtuous Peter would transform into a sinister version of himself. This was certainly not what he hoped for, and he began to worry about the heavy blows he might face in the future to lead him down this dark path. Could it be related to Aunt May or Mary Jane encountering accidents?

The more he thought about it, the more uneasy he became, reflecting on his potential future challenges. His expression grew serious. Bruce shared a similar serious expression, surprised by the question. In the previous future videos, Peter had proven to be an excellent hero—kind, just, and resilient. If even heroes like him could turn bad, who in the world could be completely trusted?

Gordon wore a face filled with deep concern, shaking his head. "Why it had to be this kind of question... Peter, I don't know what difficulties you'll face in the future, but I sincerely hope you can stick to your beliefs."

Peter nodded, unsure of what else to say. The truth was what it was, and he awaited the next answer video, hoping to understand why he would turn bad.

Many viewers were also focused on the screen, and soon the video with the correct answer began playing.

The video still centered around Peter. After defeating Doctor Octopus, he not only gained the admiration and love of New York citizens but also found sweet love.

Mary Jane was willing to break off her engagement just to be with him, she even moved in with him, and they lived happily together. Of course, he continued to swing between cities, fighting crime and upholding justice.

Thanks to Spider-Man, the security situation in New York improved, and people had grown accustomed to the presence of this superhero.

Peter's daily life remained calm. After taking off his Spider-Man suit, he was just a shy young man. He still rode his motorcycle to school, sent exclusive Spider-Man photos to the Daily Bugle, and, with a shifted mindset, adapted to the transition between superhero and ordinary Peter Parker life.

Even in his busy schedule, he made time to attend Mary Jane's operas.

Onstage, Mary Jane, dressed splendidly, shone under the spotlight, dazzling and beautiful. Peter proudly declared to everyone around: "This is my girlfriend."

However, at that moment, Harry sitting in the VIP seat watched Peter with a cold smile.

After Mary Jane's opera, when Peter saw Harry, his former friend, during the exit, he wanted to explain, but Harry ignored him, leaving only a statement: "If you have something to say, go talk to my father; he might come back to life because of it."

Leaving these words, Harry departed in a luxury car. It was evident that the once good friends were now like strangers.

Watching this scene, Peter felt a deep sense of loss. "Harry, will he choose to retaliate against me?"

In the video, Harry returned home and immediately entered his secret chamber. He not only inherited his father's Green Goblin identity but also upgraded all of the Green Goblin's equipment, beginning experiments to inhale a gas enhancing the human body.

Gordon frowned, "He's following his father's path, but it's a path of no return! Peter, your friend has indeed been good to you, but understand that a person consumed by hatred loses rationality!"

"Rationality?"

Arthur laughed, "Enough with the talk about rationality. Is rationality about weakly tolerating all harm and consequences? Commissioner Gordon, in your many years as a cop, surely you've seen victims who, due to weak rationality, couldn't resist and suffered. What did their rationality achieve? Pity from the oppressors? No, only more cruel and vicious harms!"

Gordon furrowed his brow, "Your words are too extreme. If someone commits a crime, there will naturally be legal consequences!"

"Wow, wow!" Arthur laughed while making exaggerated gestures, "I must record this statement. It's an excellent punchline. I bet if you say it on stage, the audience below will burst into laughter with sprayed drinks!"

Gotham City, whether the Gotham of Gordon and Bruce Wayne world or the Gotham of Arthur world, they had a disgustingly bad security situation. The so-called laws and regulations were often just decorations.

Perhaps the elite and influential could benefit from these laws, but the lives of ordinary people were of no concern. Living in Gotham felt like living in a hell with hot flames.

People from other places, after watching Arthur and Batman's future video, kept their distance from Gotham. Some even thought that the Ra's Al Ghul might be right—cities like Gotham, corrupt and sinful, shouldn't exist.

Destroy it, then rebuild it. Perhaps that would bring a new life to Gotham.

Facing Arthur's mockery, Gordon reminded himself in his mind not to entangle with such a lunatic. Was there any hope of convincing this madman?

He chose to remain silent.

However, Bruce looked at Arthur and asked, "Do you think Harry Osborn is right? But by doing this, he not only harms himself but also Peter. Do you think it's okay?"

Bruce was a smart man and could see that Arthur hadn't completely transformed into the evil and chaotic Joker. His conscience was still intact.

Upon hearing this, Arthur stopped laughing and raised an eyebrow. "No, these are two different things. Peter's friend doesn't know the specific truth. He thinks Peter is his father's killer, but his father actually died at his own hands."

Peter nodded, "Yes, whether in reality or in the recent video, I never had the intention of killing him. I just wanted to defeat him and hand him over to the police for judgment."
