Chapter 25 - Chapter 25- Tasha’s secret

2nd October 1991 (Morning)

The sound of something steaming and muttering awoke me from my deep slumber. Carefully I drew back the covers and rose to my feet. The muttering continued to grow louder and it seemed to to come from the bathroom.

"Come on, just straighten it already." Tesha's voice came from inside. As my hand reached out to grasp the handle a loud gasp caused me jump. Then after the gasp an groan followed.

" Stupid straightener!" Tesha cries out.

Before I made the decision to open the door I decided to give it a little knock, "Tesha? You okay in there?"

" Iris? Yeah, everything's great. Why wouldn't it be?" She rambles on.

" Tesha, I'm coming in." Notifying her as I, with precaution, open the wooden door.

" No!" She runs to the door and tries to close it on me but she was too late. Turning my head causes me to make direct eye contact with my friend. Tesha's thick texture of hair was not like it's usually state. It didn't fall past her shoulders in a straight form. In my opinion I preferred it like this. In it's natural state. Tight curls and voluminous rich dark brown hair: every time I blinked the curls kept multiplying.

" Tesha, your hair looks amazing," I say in awe. Without realising, my hands came in contact with the beautiful curls. The hair felt soft underneath my hands.

" R-really?" She says in a shocked tone.

" Tesha just look at them curls! They're stunning, why do you straighten it? All that will do is cause damage." I inform her.

" I just didn't want people to make fun of me I guess," she shrugs off.

" Why would someone make fun of something so extraordinary and beautiful?" Telling her with an smile, I pull her into an tight embrace. Resting her head in the crook of my neck, she returned the hug.

"Iris?" She mumbles into my neck.

" Yeah?"

" I need to tell you something, but promise me that this won't change our friendship." Her nerves begin to kick in, her hands now shaking.

" Tesha, you can tell me anything."

She looks at me then takes a deep breath before revealing her secret, "Iris, I- I'm bisexual."

" Oh my gosh! Tesha!" I wrap my arms around her neck and pull her into another hug. Once more, she returns the hug. However, this time she is in tears.

" I'm so proud of you, Tesha. Nothing will ever affect our friendship no matter how bad the situation may be."

" Thank you, thank you." She continues to hold tight onto me, afraid to let go almost

" Do the others know?" I inquiry.

" No, you're the only one that knows. I don't think I'll tell the others just yet."

" That's fine, there's no rush. You tell the others when you're ready. Just know that I'm so proud of you and I'm so grateful that you told me." I rest my hand in a comforting way as I send her a smile.
