Chapter 33 - Pseudo-Intent

The aura that left their bodies was enough to flatten the buildings around them. The three wasted no further words and dashed at each other.

Ivan's body was bathed in lightning as he dashed at his opponents. His grip on his tightened as he slashed forward, releasing a wave of lightning onto his surrounding. "Wrathful Lightning Sword: Lightning Storm!"

Davis immediately got into action, his hammer smashed down bringing a heavy force that made even the distant Noah feel goose bumps. The ground beneath the burly man broke apart, sending pieces of rock into the air. These rocks, under the mercenary's control, merged with each other creating a dome like structure that protected he and the partner from the onslaught of the formidable lightning.

Ivan sighed in relief seeing that his attack was still enough to bother the duo, but his smile disappeared as the dome split into two, letting a calm and graceful Azzul reveal himself.

"Ice Bullets." The latter rose his arm, summoning multiple bullet sized ice blades that surrounded him. Yet he wasn't done. "Blizzard." At his call, the ice bullets began to spin irregularly with frightening speed.

Ivan was sure that he wouldn't stand a chance if he mistakenly landed in the middle of such an attack. In his head he cursed Davis's ancestors as he dashed backwards. 'Goddammit, of all the enemies, a Mage type Battlesoul master! Did that bastard, Ron, place a Mage type Rank 5 Equipment down?'

But he didn't have the chance to think because as he dashed backwards, his instincts suddenly rang out loudly making the man narrow his eyes in fright and jump to the side.

At the next moment, the floor exploded as a figure jumped outwards swinging his hammer. Seeing his sneak attack miss, Davis clicked his tongue and taunted. "Quite being a scaredy cat, honoured Mercenary."

Ivan sneered. "Fight me one on one, we'll see who's scared."

"But I'm so weak, I can't possibly handle your strength." The big man's thick skin was really prominent, even Noah hiding far away felt his lips twitch, reminded of somebody from his past life.

Ivan wanted to reply, but Azzul took this chance to launch his Battle Art at him. Seeing the storm of bullet sized ice made a shiver run down the mercenary's spine. He turned wishing to escape the range of the attack but Davis wouldn't be dumb enough to allow that happen.

The man slammed his large hammer unto the ground executing his Battle Art. "Earth Drake Scriptures: Earth Spears!"

"Motherfuck-" The mercenary cursed as he twisted his body to dodge the multiple sharp spear shaped rocks that materialized above the ground. Yet this allowed some part of Azzul's attack to reach him. "Lightning Drive!" On activation, the lightning surrounding his body doubled and caressed his skin. The man turned into a bolt of lightning as he appeared a few hundred meters away. It wasn't as instantaneous as Noah's Flicker since it took about 2 seconds for him to reappear but it was better in the regard that it could be used repeatedly which was something the current Noah couldn't do.

What pissed him off the most was that, somehow, the less talented Davis had managed to learn a Mage type Battle Art. This was something few could do because the difficulty of projecting one's element onto their surroundings without a proper Mage type Battlesoul was quite large.

Still, even if one could do it they couldn't use all the skills within the Battle Art. Counting the barrier he had erected earlier, the bastard had learnt two skills in the Battle Art he was practicing.

Ivan appeared with his hand bloodied as he held his sword. "You're not the only one that learnt a bit after our last fight Davis! White Storm Scriptures: Lightning Dragon!" With a pierce of his sword, all the lightning around him converged on his sword and lunged at the duo, taking the form of a wingless dragon.

"Fuck!" Davis finally cursed and slammed the ground, executing the first skill he had shown and creating a dome around he and Azzul. His partner also contributed, creating a second layer to the dome.

Their efforts barely lasted. The attack was empowered with a lot of Essence. This showed that Ivan seemed to be at a higher level than the two of them.

"We have to go further." Davis spoke and Azzul nodded, a layer of ice appeared around him and was suspended in the air as the Mage type Battlesoul master charged his skill.

Ivan's spine felt a shiver as he watched this. His body turned a blitz of lightning as he dashed forward hoping to stop their plan. But Davis met him mid way swinging his hammer down. "Dwarven King's Hammer: Tremor Smash!"

The latter immediately countered with his long sword but soon regretted it. The hammer kept on sending tremors into his sword that made his entire body tremble, making him step back bit by bit. The Mercenary knew he couldn't give Azzul much time so he immediately executed the second move within his mage type Battle art. "Lightning Storm's Descent!"

At his call, a cloud materialized in the air above them, filling itself with a tremendous amount of Essence before revealing its ferocious nature. Multiple lightning strikes flashed within the cloud before launching down at the duo that sought to assassinate him.

Ivan should have been happy knowing that while this wasn't enough to kill the two, it was enough to stop the skill Azzul was preparing. Yet seeing that smile that still hung on Davis's lips, the man's eyes furrowed as a sense of dread engulfed him.

Snowflakes materialized around the three men as a land of ice spread out onto the field with Azzul at its center. The dread filling Ivan intensified as he glared at the Ice Mage Battlesoul master, yet the latter only smiled lightly as he announced his technique. "Merman King Scriptures: Ice Field." He clenched his fist, making all the ice around him gather to form multiple chakram like structures. Raising his now unclenched hand, the chakrams began spinning before launching themselves at the incoming lightning bolts, neutralizing each one. Once done, the ice scattered, merging with the ground and becoming a land of ice once more.

Ivan growled hatefully watching this. He could understand the reason behind what just happened. Azzul had casted the Ice Field skill a long time ago, he had not launched it because they wanted him to waste more of his Essence. "Since you guys want this, don't blame me!" A crimson colored energy left his body as it fused with his lightning, turning it into a crimson lightning. "Let's go all out shall we?" One could tell from his aura now that the energy seemed to have added a violent emotion within him and even his Essence.

Ivan had unleashed a power that only Adept Stage and above Battlesoul masters knew off. Intent! Or in his case, Pseudo-Intent! "Come on! Let's see who can win against my Destruction Pseudo-Intent!"
