As agonizing as it was, Alvira had to spend the whole day with a sullen expression. She was currently sitting with Carl at the canteen.
"You don't look so good today, are you okay?" The concern laced in his voice was totally detectable.
Sighing softly, her voice came out in whispers. "Nothing I'm alright, Just needed some break."
"Okay, try this." Carl put some food in her plate.
She candidly picked it up with a pretensive smile. "It's Good, thanks." She said, trying to hide her mood.
But Carl seemed to have noticed it already. He sighed and adjusted close to her. "Al, what's wrong with you?"
.She bopped her head up when she heard his question. Raising her brows, she gave him a look of inquisity.
"You definitely are not fine don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about." Carl imposed as he folded his arms, leaning against the back of the chair, giving her a glare.
"The is absolutely nothing to worry about trust me, I just...mhmmm. I'm just a little tired." She sighed again.
Carl nodded slowly still with a hint of doubt in him, "I understand. You should try to have more breaks in-between work."
"Yeah, I should. Thanks." She smiled at him.
Just like that, today's work wasn't anything stressful for Alvira. Rather she went home at the appropriate time with other employees and she felt...Great? She was surely going to give Kayla a surprise. She couldn't help but giggle at that.
Carl had offered her a ride home but she rejected, saying that she had to stop by at the market and get something. Which was actually the truth because she went grocery shopping. She promised him another day.
Taking her key out she hastenedly inserted it into the keyhole and opened her way in. Gazing at the clock in the living she noticed it was thirty minutes left before Kayla will probably be back.
Alvira rushed into the kitchen and quickly started to whip up something that won't take a long time, so dinner will be ready by the time Kayla comes back.
And just as expected before the hour hand of the clock could strike Seven, she heard footsteps and keys dangling in the threshold.
Kayla came in exhausted and totally exasperated. After putting out her shoes, she strolled in to see the dinner table set and lit. Her first reaction was to flee, thinking someone else had barged into her house. She tightly cling on to the door.
But the door wasn't broken or had any dent of whatever. That could only mean a key was used to unlock it. Her mind moved to a realization, but she shook her head sideways saying. "Al dosen't come home by this time. She can't possibly be the one."
Kayla moved farther towards the direction of the dinning, where the mini feast was. The aroma it drove was insanely worth salivating. "This... this smells like Al dishes." She whispered to herself. "That could only mean...."
"Alvira!" Kayla shouted her name, waiting if she could receive a response.
"Al..are you around?!" The was no response, but only the small sounds of audible foot walks on the ground. She wanted freaking out.
"Tada!" Alvira screamed making Kayla scream also.
"Ahh you scared me." Kayla bristled. Her hand just above her chest as she rubbed it continuously.
Alvira giggled childishly earning a glare from Kayla. Sometimes she just can't tell what is wrong with the girl. She sometimes acts matured, grim, and sometimes childish. If she hadn't known better, she would have thought the girl was undergoing a personality slit.
"Come have a seat." Alvira literally dragged her towards the table.
"You got off work early today. Why?" That was the first question Kayla uttered.
"That, I will tell you later, for now eat!" Alvira let out excitedly.
"Wow! every thing looking yummy." Kayla praised the dishes as she laid her eyes on every one of them.
."You like it?"
"Of course, I will be a fool if I don't." Kayla said with an amused expression.
"Eat eat eat!" Alvira chuckled and hurriedly joined her.
The girls dined in bliss and happiness, atleast today they got to eat together again. Unlike now that Alvira will always have to come back home late.
"So..? Your boss permitted to come early today? or are you officially free to come home early?" Kayla asked taking a huge sum of bites into her mouth as she chewed heavily. It's been a long time she tasted Alvira's cooking— it was just a week though.
Alvira swallowed first. "He was absent today." She spoke nonchalantly.
"Huh?"
"I don't know, the director said he was busy or something. I don't care." Alvira shrugged.
Kayla slowly drew in to her, squinting her eyes and scrutinizing her face.
"What?" Alvira paused and asked.
"Are you sure you don't care?" Kayla asked with her brows raised up.
"I...I...I why will I care?" Alvira replied, looking somewhat nervous.
"Then....why did you stutter?" Kayla asked again.
"You....I... It's because you are too close to me, it's making me feel weird." Alvira answered, pushing Kayla backwards. Trying hard enough to not stutter again, she quickly darted her eyes round, her eyeballs resembling a bouncing ball that just rolls off to some unknown destination.
"Hmmm. I believe you." Kayla mentioned sarcastically.
Alvira dramatically rolled her eyes. Yes! she knows it is impossible to lie to Kayla without getting caught. But she honestly didn't care. Or rather the reason she cared was not of any link to what was in Kayla's mind. She just wanted to know something.
How come....how come he suddenly became 'busy' After that incident. She couldn't probably be seeing things and neither was she drunk then. Infact she didn't even touch any drink at the hotel. Something has to be wrong.
