"You need help with that?"
Dario asked her. They were now sitting on the sofa at the CEO's office. Laura was looking at her phone, probably the texts before switching it off and concentrating on the guy in front of her.
"I think i can handle them."
She was not looking at him. She has been doing that alot. Of course Dario had to notice. But he was not going to ask her about it. It'll make her nervous. Nervousness was the least thing he wanted for her with the shit going on in the company.
"The directors being dismissed is not an issue. The company is just infiltrated by overambitious people," he commented to nothing specific but there was loath in his voice. Laura looked at him, for the first time since they sat in that spacious office. She knew that the probability of him looking at her was high but she still did it.
Their eyes met and held for less than five seconds before she looking away. Flustered. Dario chuckled amusedly.
"Come here." he said patting the space besides him. Laura, if it were weeks ago, could have resisted. She was done resisting him. She had decided to go with the flow.
Laura moved closer to Dario. Head now down and playing with her fingers. He held her hands stopping the subtle movements. She looked tensed. He had promised that he was not going to bring back the issue with the kiss, but she was tensed. And he wanted to make things better for her.
"Look at me, " that was more of a command. And Laura knew better than to disobey him.
"About us..." he had begun but stopped when he saw the her brown orbs flicker in confusion. And he explained, "...yes hazel us. You can't deny there is something going on between us."
She wasn't that dumb. Of course she knew. She had a crush on him. And the fact that her crush liked her back was enthralling. So fascinating that she went back to looking down, just like a shy teenager. That was the biggest mistake she made because in the process and because of how close they were, her eyes fell back on his lips making her aware of just how much she wanted him to kiss her again. Her mind was clouded by naughty thoughts while her eyes got stuck on his lips.
The grin from him brought her back to her senses. She immediately turned to move away from him. As if getting caught staring was not enough, their knees, in the process of trying to escape, touched.
Her eyes flew back at his only to see him gulping. The grin on his face had long disappeared and was replaced by tension. Sexual tension.
Her immediate reaction was to escape before she kissed him for the second time but was stopped before she could make a move. Dario's hands were grabbing at hers as he moved closer. Dangerously close.
"...i told you to look at me hazel and you are thinking of running away?" His left hands were now at the back of her head and lips nibbling at her ears. "...about us Hazel..." his voice was now low, his lips now on her neck, not touching...just breathing down her neck, "what do you suggest hazel?" he asked finally returning his eyes back to look at her face. Her eyes were closed and lips slightly parted. She was just as affected as he was.
"So?"
He asked and chuckled at the clueless face of the woman before him.
"You need to start paying attention hazel." He said as he moved a little further just to give her space to think. When she continued giving her the confused gaze, he repeated.
"I asked what you wanted us to do about us, "he responded patiently before adding, "and staying away from each other is not an option hazel."
Laura had noticed he called her that alot. Hazel. Was it because of her eyes? She guessed so. It was cute name, she loved it. Pet names was never a thing with Ray. He called her Laura which she didn't mind before. Dario, however, made her feel the intimacy and closeness when those in live resort to pet names.
"I don't know."
That was the truth. She didn't know what to do. Staying away too was not an option for her. She was already under his spell...his dark-eyes charm.
"I can help think of somethings..." he trailed when his playful remark attracted a glare from her.
In the state of weighing things, she was thinking about her friends and family when she remembered the last gathering she had with friends. Leigh had commented "lies" immediately Cathy and May had said no to not knowing Dario. Probably the last gathering with her friends that went well. And allover sudden she was thinking of the possibility of him having a girlfriend. This was not something Far-fetched. Dario was hot and had a reputation with women so anything was possible. But how was she going to ask him without feeling embarrassed or without sounding possessive.
"You know you can tell me anything, right?" he confirmed, his gaze on her; intense. When she nodded, he smiled warmly at her waiting for her to speak what was on her mind.
Laura, after several contemplations, finally spoke
"Your girlfriend." It wasn't a question. It was more of a confirmation and she was so embarrassed after that that she missed the few-minutes-tensed Dario. Dario was tensed because he didn't expect that question. He expected that topic to come up at some point in time hopefully when he had ended things with May.
The two weren't really that much of a couple any more. With previous strains in their relationship coupled with Dario getting very busy, the little affection they had was lost. And it is stupid to admit this but talking to May about ending things had slipped his mind.
Laura was waiting for his answer. He didn't want to lie to her and telling her the truth was just going to push her away. It was probably the first time he wanted to do things right so he went with, "it is nothing to worry about." He didn't lie, he was honest at least that was what he thought. It was nothing to worry about because he was planning to end things with May. And when Laura nodded, he heaved a sigh of relief.
He pulled her to him so that she was leaning on him. His hands gently rubbing on her arms. He wanted to cuddle her but thought it was too soon and he wanted to take things slow. "I'll make things right, hazel. For us." He whispered on her hair leaving a kiss before replacing his lips with her hands.
His fingers on her hair was soft, so comforting and Laura was tempted to sleep and she slept. Again. The second time she did that. Did she really trust him that much?
