After I leave the letter under the office door, I rush out of my house with a speed I didn't think I was capable of. But I just have to get out of there because in no capacity could I ever watch my parents read that letter. It is going to be taunting to them. A big flag saying, 'you failed to hide, to run, to protect.'
That's why I am gonna give them the utmost privacy to digest that letter. It's not their fault, and I would never want them to blame themselves.
I find my bike parked outside the garage, and I key in the ignition before getting on and speeding away. I am halfway across the city when I realize I don't even know where the supposed job is.
Shit!
I am being so fucking careless that its astonishing.
I park my beauty by the roadside before taking out my phone and checking the text I asked Kal to send.
__________
2596 Shinn Street, New York City
RM Pharmaceuticals
Room 15 on 31st floor.
Crack the safe and burn the blue envelope.
Leave the ashes in the safe.
Pay: 3.2 million.
___________
I blink. And blink. And blink.
Who the fuck pays that much to destroy a document?
Whatever, leave it to Kal to get me the best price.
I realize that even though I came here unknowingly, I am not far from the actual location.
I drive for about 10 minutes before I am parked behind the company building. There are still several glass windows illuminated despite it already being a little more than ten p.m.. I look up at the building, it's huge and so tall. Things like these make me feel insignificant, and I hate feeling that way. I stop myself before I can go deep into my thoughts and shake my head violently. Focus.
I focus my attention on my phone and open the app which helps me connect to the company's wifi, giving me direct access to the inside network. I go through the CCTVs and figure out the blind spots before flipping through the office room's cameras. I stop at one of the rooms with a jolt. There is a painting on the wall that faces the camera. And it's beautiful. Like really beautiful. I zoom in on screen to take a closer look. It's painted in shades of golden, red and green. The colors are special because they seem to be glittering even without any light around. The landscape looks like that of an ancient city where a large castle sits at a mountain at the far back whereas the people are jostling around on the streets and market at the bottom of the mountain. It's lively and happy.
I got carried away fucking again.
I don't know what has been wrong with me ever since I recieved the letter but it feels like I have gotten dumb?
No no, I am just tired with all of the overthinking I have been doing and I just need a good night's worth of sleep.
I zoom out from the screen and skip the slides until I reach the one with Room 15. Its fucking equipped. Like are you kidding me? What kind of company has such dedicated employees!?
I take in the man sitting behind the desk as he talks on the phone, one of his hands animatedly slashes through the air. He is old, maybe in his fifties? I wait for him to finish the call and leave but my expression changes when I spot a young girl entering the office. She is really young, maybe an intern? I watch as she saunters toward the man and he smiles before nodding and gesturing to his foot. What in the world is happening?
I keep watching as she sits down on her knees in front of the man and reaches to his waist. I don't have to watch anymore to know what happens next. And even though I have watched porn, I don't wanna watch a live performance.
I grimace to myself before locking my phone and pocketing it. I look around and find a bar at the corner of the street. I reignite my bike and rev the engine before driving to it.
Smell of cheap alcohol fills my nostrils as soon as I step into the bar. I make my way through the crowd which is filled with underage kids. I am underage too but I turn twenty one in a month so it doesn't count. Or maybe it does, but the bouncer sure didn't mind. I walk to the bar and order sparkling water before taking a seat.
For the next hour and so I scroll through social media while I wait for them to finish.
I step out of the bar, confident that the old man would be done by now given his age. I take a deep breath before deciding to leave my bike in the bar parking lot and walking to the building.
I sneak in through the back exit which has a tilted 'only staff allowed' sign. I laugh before extending my hand to fix it. I walk to the stairs since there are no cameras here. It takes me a while to climb all those 31 floors and my feet are fucking sore by the end of it. I groan before sitting down and disabling the cameras on the floor and the room 15. Once I am done, I make a run to room fifteen. There are several wet floor tags scattered across the floor, but I ignore them. I slip a couple of times, the water splashes on my jeans, but nothing I can't handle.
I stand outside room 15, The lights are off which confirms my earlier suspicion about the man's age. And I walk inside. It's surprisingly unlocked. Good for me. I walk to the painting at the far wall. It's an abstract piece, nothing like the beauty I saw earlier. I take it off from the wall and set it against the floor. Water again. I groan at the fast cleaning services of this building before setting my gaze back on the wall. Got it right in the first guess.
The safe stares back at me, begging me to open it. So I do. I connect my phone to the safe's security system through a cable and run all 4 digit passwords. Green numbers run amok on my screen causing me unwarranted dizziness. Shit I need that sleep.
It doesn't take long before my device identifies the password. It's simple really.
1650
I punch in the code and the safe's door creaks open. I stifle through the various envelopes before recognizing the blue one. I take it in my hands and mutter a spell that sets it on fire. I let the envelope fall to the ground.
One second, I have almost completed my mission and in the next, the whole room erupts in blazing flames. There is fire everywhere. Spreading like it's driven by something.
