Someone invaded his space, Dimitri knew that the moment he stepped out of the bathroom. His dragon sense of smell tingled and the moment the familiar scent hit his nose, it wrinkled in disgust. Of course, his uncle couldn't go a whole day without seeing him. He was so honored, note the sarcasm.
Dimitri turned to see his uncle's second in command, Micheal, standing smugly in the middle of his room and he felt the urge to slap that smile off his face. Micheal was no match for him, Dimitri knew that and wouldn't fail to show him that whenever they found the chance to spar.
"What is it?" Dimitri didn't fail to show his irritation at his presence. They had never been friends and would never be, not even if his uncle requested they get along. His dragon has marked Micheal for death, for strange reasons, and death he would grant him. At the right time.
"The emperor wants to see you," Micheal relayed the message to him.
"I would be there," Dimitri told him when he said,
"He wants you now," Micheal insisted. There was no room for negotiations.
"Fine then," Dimitri said, turning his back to Micheal which was one of the worst insults you could give a dragon and he could already hear the deep growl from Micheal as his dragon reacted to the insult.
Turning your back to a dragon meant that you weren't afraid of what the opponent could do and one was confident of taking him out even with the eyes closed, hence the whole turning around thing. You aren't afraid of a backstab.
Dimitri ignored him, although he was on high alert in case the idiot decided to retaliate, and then he could use that excuse to beat the hell out of him - and perhaps, fulfill his dragon's wish of ending him. But like the coward he was, Micheal swallowed down the insult.
Good for him.
Dimitri went over to his wardrobe and picked out an outfit to dress up, not minding the presence of Micheal. As annoyed as he was, if the pervert wanted a show, he would give him one. Moreover, Dimitri had a proud d*ck and that was something to show around.
One would be surprised that the dragons had modern amenities, however, when you have a human mate, you would do everything to make her comfortable. With more humans mated, that meant modernization of the dragon realm since these women are pulled from their homes and are made to reside in a foreign realm.
In one word, their dragon would go all out to make their mates stay comfortable. Moreover, human technology was not all that horrible and dragons copied some of their designs to make life here easier. However, some regions still lacked such development, and there were still restrictions to some of the technologies, just like how one couldn't place a call while in the dragon realm
It was as if their magic feared that just like in the human realm, technology would soon take over and their gifts are forgotten. Hence, it fought against the electromagnetic spectrum that made calls possible. Hence, to make a call, those humans had to meet their Seer who would make such contact possible with her magic.
When he was through, Dimitri didn't utter a word to Micheal and set out already. He met some of the staff on the way and though Dimitri had sympathizers, his haters were greater. Most of them spied on him and reported his activities to his uncle, bootlicking to get a raise in their pay or promotion.
The others simply hated him and blamed him and his brothers for making the emperor that way, impotent. Unable to find his mate to bond with, his uncle slept with any human he could lay his eyes on with the hope of raising an heir, but that wasn't possible. They never got pregnant, the curse was that strong.
Hence it wasn't surprising for Dimitri to see a woman being dragged out of the emperor's private quarters as soon as he arrived. He knew that human, he had seen her around and she was his uncle's latest conquest and from the look of things, she wasn't pregnant.
All his uncle gave them was a month and if the human didn't turn up pregnant, he took their lives instead which was cruel and barbaric. Although the dragon population wasn't as much as the humans, that human could have been a dragon's mate and his uncle just rendered him mateless.
When a dragon's mate dies before they meet, he would continue to pine for her for decades until the stars have mercy and provide a second chance mate. Aside from that, that woman had a family. His uncle could have wiped her memory and returned her to her loved ones, not kill them. However, no one had the nerve to go up against the emperor, not even him.
Dimitri might be stronger than his uncle, but he wasn't stupid. His uncle had the entire dragon army on his side and they would tear him from limb to limb before he could get close to him. So he didn't say anything even knowing the fate awaiting that poor human.
When Dimitri entered his uncle's bedroom, he never expected to see the Seer there. Was his uncle doing her now? No, Dimitri pushed the ridiculous thought to the back of his head. The Seer was selected by the stars and even his uncle wouldn't court death by attempting to force himself on her. She was respected and revered among the dragons.
Dimitri didn't exactly hate or like her. Their relationship was formal and they hardly crossed paths that much. But today, there was just an air around her that made him uncomfortable and when their eyes met from across the room, it was almost as if she could see right through him and he forced his gaze away.
The Seer could pass off as a mere human because she couldn't shift into a dragon. Yeah, they finally get a female shifter which occurs in just one in a hundred births and the stars had to choose her for a Seer. The Seer wielded magic instead of her dragon, unlike the others whose magic was their dragons. Order has to be restored and one person couldn't have that much power.
Although aside from his half-shifting ability, Dimitri had another secret he was hiding and he didn't want the Seer getting into his head. Since he hasn't heard the news of it flying around, that meant his brothers were keeping theirs as well. Because If the emperor dared to hear of it, he would have him killed immediately, finally realizing the threat he posed to his throne.
His stolen throne.
"Your Majesty," Dimitri bowed to his uncle, the emperor, and finally to the Seer, "Your holiness."
He then glanced up, "You summoned me."
"Yes, I did." His uncle told him with an exciting tune that told Dimitri that something was wrong. With his uncle this happy, that means something bad was about to happen.
His uncle arose from his bed and Dimitri watched cautiously as he approached him and took his hand in his saying,
"The Seer finally found a loophole to the curse. You have to go to the human realm and find me that human."
"T-that human?" Dimitri frowned, swallowing down the lump in his throat. Why was he nervous? Or was it because whoever that human was would give him a baby nephew and he didn't like it one bit?
