"I am Qian Xiaosheng, honored to be here."
"I am Yang Shen, it's a pleasure to be in your presence."
"I am Zi Han, delighted to make your acquaintance."
"I am Chang Jianhong, honored to meet you all."
"I am Suo Muyang, pleased to make your acquaintance."
"I am Chen Dong, it's a pleasure to be here with all of you."
After the introduction of the 14 Admirals was over.
Seeing a little upliftment in everyone's attitude, Li Mingze, the enigmatic figure leading the discussion, smiled as he proceeded to address the main agenda.
"Let's get to the heart of the matter," he said, pausing for a moment to build suspense. "In a hypothetical scenario where the Alliance and the Empire were to engage in an all-out conflict, who do you think would emerge victorious?"
His expression remained composed, as if the question was of little consequence.
Vice Admiral Jia Lin of the Alliance couldn't help but inquire with deference, "May I ask why you pose such a question, senior?"
Li Mingze's response was enigmatic, "Consider it a test of your seasoned expertise in matters of warfare. I'm curious to see how much insight you veterans have gained."
"Well, it's evident then," Admiral Mu Kongdong declared confidently, his voice resonating with certainty as he leaned forward in his seat. "No matter how much we debate, how much we strategize, or how much we wish it were different, the Empire holds the upper hand in a hypothetical all-out confrontation."
The other Alliance Admirals present wore expressions of discontent, their brows furrowing and murmurs exchanged amongst themselves, as they couldn't deny the truth in Mu Kongdong's words.
The other Alliance Admirals present wore expressions of discontent, though they couldn't deny the truth in Mu Kongdong's words.
"Accepting this reality with such ease is quite rare to see," remarked Admiral Luo Yin with a slight smile.
The Alliance Admirals felt a hint of mockery in Luo Yin's words, and it stung their pride.
"It's simply the truth," Admiral Mu Kongdong retorted. "Accepting it should come naturally, especially after witnessing the devastating capabilities of the Empire's Next-generation Flagship in battle, isn't that right, Admiral Luo?"
Luo Yin was intrigued by Mu Kongdong's words, and he responded with a diplomatic tone. "You are honorable, and your eloquence is truly captivating. I appreciate your candidness," he said.
Mu Kongdong simply chuckled in response, not saying anything further.
"Admirable," Li Mingze mused, his curiosity piqued. "Pray tell, what do you veterans gain from this protracted War?" he inquired, his tone polite yet probing.
"Livelihood," Rear Admiral Yang Shen replied, his response causing some to raise questioning eyebrows.
Rear Admiral Chang Jianhong of the Alliance voiced his dissent. "Surely, there must be more nuanced reasoning behind your participation, rather than a mere livelihood," he remarked, his tone measured and diplomatic.
Yang Shen remained undeterred, unapologetically stating, "It's not a matter of evasion, but rather my genuine rationale. I see no other purpose for me to engage in this war of attrition, apart from making a livelihood out of it."
His lack of shame in admitting his true motivations was palpable, his words delivered with unwavering conviction.
Li Mingze nodded, his gaze fixed on Rear Admiral Yang Shen. "Interesting perspective," he commented, his tone neutral yet curious.
"And what about you, Admiral Chang Jianhong? What motivates you to fight in this war?"
Rear Admiral Chang Jianhong of the Alliance frowned slightly, his expression contemplative. "For the honor and protection of the Alliance," he replied with conviction. "I fight to defend our values, our way of life, and to ensure a better future for our people."
Li Mingze raised an eyebrow, as if challenging Chang Jianhong's response. "Noble ideals indeed," he remarked. "But is it just about honor and protection? Is there nothing else that drives you to engage in this war?"
Chang Jianhong straightened his posture, his gaze unwavering. "Of course, there are personal stakes as well," he admitted. "But my duty to the Alliance comes first and foremost. It is my responsibility to safeguard our interests and uphold our principles."
Li Mingze nodded slowly, acknowledging Chang Jianhong's dedication to his cause. "I see," he said, his tone tinged with intrigue.
"And what about the rest of you?" he asked, addressing the other Admirals in the room. "What are your motivations for participating in this war?"
The room fell into a brief silence as the Admirals exchanged glances, each lost in their own thoughts. Rear Admiral Yang Shen spoke up again, his voice unapologetic.
"Livelihood," he repeated, his tone firm. "I fight for the sake of survival, to provide for myself and my family. There's no shame in admitting that it is what serves as motivation for many of us."
Some Admirals had puzzled expressions on their faces, while this time a few others nodded in understanding.
It was clear that Rear Admiral Yang Shen's candid response had caught them off guard, challenging their preconceived notions.
"Some might say that it's preposterous, greedy and what not. But in the end that is the reality, this war is destroying the life of several many while also becoming a source of advancement for the significant others." Luo Yin thought. "Although his honesty is a bit too naked..."
Li Mingze leaned back in his chair, his fingers steepled as he observed the Admirals. "Fascinating," he mused.
"In war, motivations can be complex and multi-faceted, ranging from duty and honor to personal gain and survival. It is crucial to understand and respect the diverse perspectives and motivations of those who fight alongside us."
The Admirals exchanged nods, acknowledging the wisdom in Li Mingze's words.
It was a reminder that in the midst of war, amidst differing ideologies and strategies, it was essential to maintain a level of understanding and open-mindedness.
"As we navigate the challenges of this war," Li Mingze continued, "Let us remember that our motivations shape our actions, and ultimately determine the outcome. Understanding our own motivations and those of our allies and opponents can be a strategic advantage."
The room fell into a thoughtful silence, as the Admirals reflected on Li Mingze's words.
It was a reminder that war was not just about tactics and firepower, but also about understanding the human element and the complexity of motivations that drove individuals to fight.
