.....
14 years later.
*HONK* HONK*
The driver signaled with the car horn to wake Ohta up. The young boy sat up in the car. He had been having dreams of his former life again.
He peeped through the limousine window. After a little over an hour on the road, they finally made it to the school. Which in his own opinion was right dead in the middle of nowhere.
There it was, written in big bold words on the open gates: AVALON HIGHSCHOOL. Although Ohta was not one to judge, he really couldn't help but notice that the walls and gates of this school were at least a hundred feet high. Anyway, that was not really a problem for him. Either way, he did not care. After all, he was here now.
To say Ohta was not nervous at all would be a far stretch from the truth. He had never been to Highschool before. Not in this life or the last. After living a questionable life in the other world, he now had the opportunity to start again. This time, however, was going to be different. At least that was what he told himself.
It had not been easy for him to get the opportunity to leave the clan and force his father to send him to school. This was the first time he was leaving the premise of the clan home to the outside world. A world that was at least seven times the size of his previous earth, but somehow still managed to have all seven continents with similar histories, and the only difference being a lot of mystics and mythologically insane things becoming reality here.
Who wouldn't be nervous?
He had literally threatened to take his own life unless allowed to go to school. If not that his father treasured his bloodline, he would not have agreed to the threat.
Although it would sound strange to many people, Ohta actually did not care. Anyone that had lived a hustling life on the streets for a long time through hardship and pain would naturally understand the value he had for Education.
He highlighted from the car in his new school uniform and his luggage in hand with a smile on his face.
However, as he proceeded to the gate, the clan car that had brought him immediately zoomed off into the distance.
"Huh!" For a second there, He felt as if the driver desperately wanted to leave this place. The way he sped off was similar to someone running for his life, and Ohta should know, he had been in quite a few car-chases in his former life.
Apart from the gate in front of him, there was nothing behind but an empty desert. He sighed loudly, "There is no turning back now, I guess."
He proceeded to the gate. However, a holographic screen suddenly appeared before his eyes.
It read:
The Holographic projection had an arrow pointing to a side of the gate. Ohta followed the direction. On the side of the gate was a slab with a palm print. Apparently, this was where he should do the signing.
A mechanical voice informed and he did as he was told.
*pierce*
"Ouch!" A needle pierced into his palm and he reflexively retracted it. On the Palm print was a drop of his blood which was quickly absorbed.
Ohta proceeded through the school gates. It was nothing like had ever seen before. Like the difference between heaven and earth. Out the gate was a desert but inside the School was so large, it looked like a mini city. It had high-raised buildings and busy streets with vendors on either side. It was really a marvel to behold.
Everything looked colorful and automated. Holographic screens advertise products at nearly every point.
Since coming to this world, Ohta had never left the clan home. This was the first time, and it was really becoming an adventurous experience for him. With the way he was staring, it was an easy guess that he was new here.
He asked for directions as he made his way to the classroom area.
"Get out of my way fatso!" a bully and his three friends pushed a fat boy to the side. The fat boy's books fell to the ground. The fat boy apologized to the bully as he picked up his books.
Ohta was passing when he saw this, and although he wanted to just mind his business and leave, he had promised himself he would do better in this life.
Ohta sighed. Pulling his box towards the fat boy, he took a knee and helped him pick the books from the ground.
"Thank you very much!"
"Naa! it's no problem at all," Ohta replied.
The boy's eyes found Ohta's luggage behind him. "Are you new?"
Ohta chuckled a bit, "yeah I am," Ohta scratched the back of his head, "Very obvious, right? I think I might be a bit lost."
"Oh! that tends to happen a lot around here. It's not easy with the size of the place."
"Yeah! it's not at all. At this rate, I'm going to be late for my first class."
"What class are you going to?"
"1a."
"Oh! I'm heading there too. That's my class. By the way, My name is Timi. What's yours?"
"I'm Ohta." Ohta introduced himself. The two shook hands and Timi proceeded to show Ohta first to the locker room in order for him to drop his luggage and then the both of them headed to class.
As they walked and talked. Ohta noticed a little yellow patch that looked like a small umbrella on Timi's neck. Now that he thought about it, those bullies that passed earlier on also had something similar on their necks. Except that their patch was a green colored.
Ohta managed to make it to class just before the class was to begin.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, although we have already gone a month into the semester, we have a new student with us today." The teacher introduced Ohta to the class.
"It's nice to meet you all," Ohta bowed in greeting.
"That's good! I am Miss Carol, your Homeroom teacher. You can make introductions with the rest of the class later. We are on a tight schedule today. Take a seat over there," Miss Carol directed Ohta to an empty seat right in the middle of the class.
Ohta thanked her and proceeded to take his seat. This class was far more spaced than Ohta thought was needed. The actual class with its chairs and tables covered only one-third of the class. The other two-thirds was just an open space.
That was not all. Ohta noticed that the class had students of all races. In fact, many of them had adjusted their school uniforms in such a way as to fit their various cultural backgrounds. Some had their sleeves torn out, one or two people had masks of different kinds covering their faces and lastly, there was even this one guy with a pumpkin on his head.
He also noticed that just like Timi, all of the students of the class had the same yellow patch on various parts of their bodies.
"Maybe it's a trend," he thought to himself.
He took his seat and coincidentally, Timi sat close by on his left side. Such a situation was comfortable for Ohta. He and Timi were already acquainted with one another. On his right was a girl with overflowing blonde hair. She kept on taking peeking glances at him, blushing from time to time. Although he found this to be a bit weird, he had other things to bother himself with at the moment.
One of which was the fact that today was the start of the semester's tests.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the test will now begin," Miss Carol announced.
Ohta brought out a notebook and a pen. This was a test he was already expecting. He had already been informed that the test was a compulsory one, regardless if he was a new student or not. And so like any intelligent person with good foresight, he had prepared from home. The internet had been his surfing board for every subject relating to Highschool. He only had a week to practice and had read every day just to ensure he did not embarrass himself when the results came out.
He smiled knowing that he was prepared to solve any question thrown at him.
"This test will be for ten minutes. There will be no cheating and it will be conducted as fair as possible," the teacher informed, "Remember, first place gets 50 yellow points. Second to ninth will get twenty yellow points each and the rest of the class will have 5 yellow points. Your time starts now!
The teacher turned and walked out the door.
This caught Ohta by surprise, "huh! She did not even pass out question papers or the like. Why is she leaving the class? Is it an open test?" These questions plagued his mind.
But what happened next, was a bigger surprise.
The walls of the class suddenly opened up, revealing weapons of all types. There were guns, swords, boomerangs, chains, ninja stars, staffs etc.
The students immediately rushed for the weapons, and before Ohta knew it, everyone in the class had weapons pointed at each other. Their eyes spelling out the fate of their own classmates even before the venom of their weapons.
A thought suddenly came to his head, "SHIT!!! Is this really school!? That old man tricked me. "
