"Calm down I already knew as much, if you weren't even close to awakening you never would have met with a state doctor." Max told Van in an attempt to calm him down and get him to think more rational.
If there was any, Van was walking proof that pure intelligence didn't cure irrational thoughts, one needed the proper life experiences before they could fully utilize whatever intelligence they had.
"Oh yea… emotions kind of act as blinders. By the way how do awakened people get stronger, like how did you become so proficient with your spatial affinity?" Van asked Max after being brought down from his short emotional high.
"Spatial affinity? I just teleport do you mean I'm interacting with space when I'm teleporting?" Max was pretty astonished to hear Van asking about a spatial affinity, as far as he knew his power was to teleport nothing more he never really tried to do anything else.
When he first awakened his ability he had just been lazy and didn't want to get out of bed to brush his teeth and appeared in the bathroom. He could have been said to be experiencing a spell of depression, he hadn't wanted to do anything for a few months and had been extremely lethargic. That day he felt like he was at his limit, it was also the first time he had the thought of life being pointless with enough validity to make him question being alive.
Awakening his ability was what brought purpose back to his life as he had already spent an entire life without ever being able to do anything of note, to live another life and finally feel special on a planet were awakening powers was relatively unknown to the public he almost developed a hero syndrome.
But after a few experiences he realized he wasn't even comprable to the hero's he'd seen in movies and he had to learn how to use this ability causing him to practice teleporting and mastering the ability without ever seeing if he was capable of more.
[As I expected he isn't aware of all the possibilities he has with his ability, well put it this way at least he mastered teleporting.] the voice of the system sounded in his mind.
'Shoot what do I tell him how am I supposed to know more about his ability than he does?' Van asked the system afraid that he messed up and shouldn't have mentioned anything about it.
[Fate always brings people together for reasons unknown, you can say you guessed…Or just tell him to do more test to see his range of ability on the space around him.] The system gave a couple of possible options for him to use as outs in the situation.
After Van gave a long pause Max became impatient and said, "Come on man if what you're saying is true that means my ceiling for growth just skyrocketed."
"Well it was kind of just a guess but I think you should check your range of ability with effecting space." Van then said hoping that Max would drop it as he didn't want to disclose that he had a system and separate consciousness in his mind.
Hearing this slightly annoyed Max as he was brought down from a high of thinking his power was more than what it was. In his annoyance he still tried to effect space in the direction they we're walking as he could physically feel the space around them and the energy within it.
He specifically began attempting to cause the space near the ground in Van's path to become solid however the outcome was outside his expectation as Van's foot dragged through the space and he tripped.
From Van's point of view it just felt as if he was stepping through molasses making his back step lag and him fall due to the force he was using to pull his back leg through.
When he fell rather than laughing like he normally would Max looked more surprised and astonished that he was actually able to effect the physical space in front of them. He could feel the space moving and accepting his energy as it's own to make it more solid but he didn't think it would actually work and make Van fall.
"Uhhh… my bad for reacting like that I guess you were right aha… ta-daaaa" Max said trying to lighten the mood.
"Bruh… how do awakened people get stronger?" Van was going to complain but realizing he had in a sense brought this on himself dropped it and proceeded with his question from earlier.
"We'll I can't explain how it works for everyone but for me I had to learn to control my emotions to gain further control over my ability to sense the energy in the air and even began learning to manipulate my position in space. As I reigned in my emotions I started noticing that I was more energetic and could teleport longer distances… as you can see I still don't have full control of my emotions… but I can to a point where when I'm using my ability I'm able to zero in on the specific feeling that arises when I'm teleporting."
"Im not too sure about strengthening my body outside of the passive strength I received when awakening my power also im not too sure how energy reserves work but I know with mastery my efficiency progressed by leaps and bounds." Max explained everything he could articulate and stated the things he didn't know so Van wouldn't ask too many more questions he was unable to answer.
[Don't worry when the time is right I can help both of you in that aspect] the voice of the system sounded in his mind and he nodded towards max acknowledging his words.
At this point they had walked through the city and were in front of a restaurant called 'The Platinum Owl'.
